I don't know, call me the friggin' Pollyanna of KAST, but it makes no sense to keep the VS back if you're going to relegate them to a role that Hackett or Anderson could have filled. The Alliance will want a representative with Shepard's squad for political/intelligence reasons. The VS fits this and has been set up for this. Does that mean they couldn't create an entirely new character with the same purpose? No. But leaving Kaidan and Ash in limbo makes no sense, either.

Man I hope so, because the only compelling the ME2 LI's did for me was to compel me to violence, anger, and emesis.

QFT.  Well, maybe not that last one, as I'm an emetophobe.  But definitely the rest of it.

In the ME1 trailer, Ash was the one both left at Virmire AND the one Shep slept with. Posted Image
I'm not too worried about the game. Apart from Reaper hell, nobody but Bioware knows anything about the game. If the marketing is the same as ME2, I'm sure a lot of the game will be known just from that.

The initial idea of the plot is already known anyway; Rally the universe. Kill the Reapers.

Tidbits are the only hidden secrets so far.

Ladies! Don't be so negative! Batteries is right. The ME trailer has Anderson narrating it. Cristina Norman listed in her GDC presentation that keeping the original/existing squad was on the table and a priority and lets face it - if Earth is attacked the Systems Alliance has to be involved and who in the Alliance has first hand experience with a Reaper? Kaidan. And *****spoiler*****At the end of revelations Anderson rejoins the Alliance as well ******spoiler****

Shepard is going to be back in the Alliance and she's going to have her team with her, at least the ones that didn't die in the suicide mission. It won't be an email.

I disagree here. I don't think Shepard will be back with the Alliance at all, nor will she be with Cerberus. ME3 is bigger than that. Best bet plot wise is that Shepard will be her own force and gathering the allies she's made.

You guys might be right. I'll try not to be the voice of negativity until there's something worth complaining over :)

Eh.  It doesn't have to make sense.  Ashley and Kaidan don't seem cool enough to the new writers, so they're written out.  Rationalized excuses are made later by a marketing department whose job it is to get you to buy the game.

I could be wrong.  The ME3 squad could be the VS from the start, plus Wrex, Garrus, Tali, and Liara as you go along... or it could be an entirely new squad with bonus DLC for the squadmates who lived.  I just don't see it in the pattern.

... also, I suddenly realize that Ashley had a big part in the ME2 trailer and a little part in the actual game, so I wouldn't go on marketing at all if I were anyone.

Wow. ME2 didn't win Game of the Year and I don't even think they announced best female voice actor. I'm surprised Ezio didn't win best character too.

A little after the ME3 trailer was shown, the entire awards just seemed to crumble. Nothing seemed organized.

Looking at it from a writers POV, ME3 has to wrap up the major story lines. Not in the ME Universe, but Shepard's Universe and the two are different. Like it or not Horizon was a big story line in Shepard's Universe that needs to be wrapped up. A former ally/lover called Shepard a traitor. This has to be resolved, one way or another. The other squaddies, in one way or another, have had resolution. The VS is the only one left hanging.

I call blasphemy on the Best Character...but the game of the year, yea I can understand RDR.

But I wanna know where the hell everyone is in ME3....and Seriously if Earth's being attacked, wouldn't the council see it? hello?

The council continues to dismiss your claims.

I can see the council abandoning Humanity if only humans are being attacked. It would be in their interest to do so. They hate humans anyways.

Not if it's a human council.

Maybe saving the council is the paragon decision that bites you in the ass in ME3.

I have to admit that I don't trust the writers to handle that storyline with the care and attention it needs.

This is a concern as well. There are so many things in ME2 that could have been fixed with a simple sentence here and there, but, call me Pollyanna again, the consistent critic of ME2 is that the writing wasn't on par with ME1. My hope is that ME2 was filler so they could get to ME3 where things could actually have meaning.

Ashley or Kaidan will be (silently) leading the Alliance navy charge on screen on a 30 second cutscene.  One minute if you romanced and didn't cheat on them.  :innocent:

No, there will be a simple, "I love you Shepard," before they're crushed by a Reaper.

No, see, that would require hiring the voice actors and recording the lines, which costs more money than the silentness.  There's just not enough time and money to include the VS in any speaking capacity.  :o

Although, having them mouth it silently, at a distance so you can't tell whether it's Kaidan or Ashley might work and save precious resources...

*Kaidan's mouth moves "I love you"*

Shepard: Elephant poo?

*Kaidan is crushed by reaper*

ROFL.

Fort, you kill me.

In my opinion, I love both games equally. I really do.
But I do think that ME1's story was executed better. Of course, you are going to feel that wonder and awe at a new universe, a new /good/ universe, the first time you play it. But my thing is is that I still play it and still get that feeling during the majority of the game. With ME2, it was only bits and pieces after playing it a couple times. It felt more cramped and not as open.
But at the same time, I can attribute that feeling to Shepard. Plus knowing about the Reapers?

Scary.

This is all just my own opinion though.

EDIT

If it's about romances, then I prefer the execution of the ME1 romances too. ME2 felt too abrupt, it felt like there was no sense of taking time with it to me. I don't hate the ME2 LIs, I love all of them.

I was going to try to argue a point, but I don't know how to word it. And apparently I can't word the other thing I wanted to say without making it sound all stupid.

So here, have a Kaidan instead:

Yeah, I feel kind of the same way.  All of the ME2 love interests were good characters, but the execution of their romances left a lot to be desired.

I was *really* pissed about Horizon when the game came out, and if any of the romances had caught my imagination, I would have gone with them.  But it never felt right, for my Shepard, or for the LIs.  I'm glad now that I stayed single on all my characters, and I think it added a sense of  emptiness and loss to the game that I would not have felt otherwise.  But ME3 better not leave me the same way...<_<

There's the list of all the awards. Hale or Yvonne didn't win the best female voice either? Posted Image
I'm surprised.

I don't love both games equally, I love them for different reasons. ME1 was all about the story and Shepard's character and how she interacted with others and the Universe as a whole. ME2 was all about the game play and the weapons and the bosses for me. I tolerated the combat in ME1 because it progressed the story, I tolerated the story in ME2 because it gave me a reason to have more combat.

Both gave me a new world to play and I have hopes ME3 will finish Shepard's story nicely. With Kaidan.

Er, that was what I meant by saying that, just didn't type those words exactly. I don't prefer one over the other in general, but picking out bits and pieces will make me say which I prefer in that aspect. I refer ME1 story, but I still think ME2 story was kickass. I think ME2 combat was better, but ME1 didn't suck. Ect.

I'm going to have to agree with the timing issues on all of the romance options. Not all of them are as grievous as the "Thane your story about your dead wife makes me want you." (which apparently if you don't take you don't get the romance option btw.) Garrus let's be f*** buddies wasn't really great either. But that doesn't make me hate those characters. I love Garrus and Tali. (Tali's progession was particularly well done I think.) Thane was interesting. Mordin was hilarious. Even his combat banter, "Flammable. Or..inflammable. Can't remember." The characters were great. The relationship wasn't there.

Maybe I'm the polyanna of KAST but I feel good about how they will wrap everything up.  At least they are actually making ME3 - remember the KotOR 3 we were supposed to have? RIP Revan. :-/
