Time to remember what Casey Hudson said, and hopefully it wasn't just empty marketing speak:

WhisperPiano: By now, we are aware that most of the characters from the first game have been given greatly reduced roles, including the three potential love interests. While the new crew is intriguing, many of us are irked by what appears to be a disregard for the personal subplots through which each of our Shepards' stories were individualized. My question is: wil those of us who choose to have our Shepards remain faithful to one of the original romance options be able to come away as satisfied with the roma...

CaseyH-ME2: WhisperPiano - this is an interesting question that we see a lot. Here's our take...

CaseyH-ME2: While Mass Effect fans have grown to love our characters, you can imagine that after spending years crafting them, we have at least as much of an attachment to them. So it's definitely not a case of the team disregarding player's decisions with them or interest in those characters - in fact, it's the opposite...

CaseyH-ME2: We actually want to make sure these characters survive the ME2 story, which ultimately is a suicide mission: some of your crew will almost certainly die. Some of the ME1 characters are back, and recruitable (more than you might think), and the ones that aren't still play an important role in the story and will be around for ME3 - which we can't say for the new characters.

CaseyH-ME2: Another important thing to consider is that much of the fun of ME1 was the discovery of new people and places. If we made ME2 out of the same characters, you'd miss out of the fun of that discovery.

CaseyH-ME2: Finally, if you are worried about the role of the ME1 love interest in the trilogy, consider that the romance itself is told across the trilogy, in 3 acts. Apply the 3-act concept to what's happening in your relationship with them, and you might guess where we're going with it.

CaseyH-ME2: The real challenge is that many people will be unfaithful to their ME1 love interest because the ones in ME2 are really compelling.

Hmph.  I know what I think of that last statement, let's see what happens with the rest...

Sounds like empty marketing speak to me - just like "All LIs are equal!", but we'll see. /:

And didn't Hudson also say something along the lines of "Who you started out with, might not always be the one you end up with."?

I want to know who the "real challenge" is to, the people playing who might be "unfaithful" or the people making the game or... who?  That sentence suddenly isn't parsing to me.

Not if it's a human council.

Maybe saving the council is the paragon decision that bites you in the ass in ME3.

If you killed the council, the new council won't even meet with you. They hate you even more.

Maybe I'm the polyanna of KAST but I feel good about how they will wrap everything up.  At least they are actually making ME3 - remember the KotOR 3 we were supposed to have? RIP Revan. :-/

Yes. that's true, but the human council wouldn't ignore an attack on the human homeworld, or 7 million people dead at least.

And if they're smart, they wouldn't turn down help even from a "traitor," who is with a terrorist organization.

He was referring to the "compelling" ME2 LIs I think :/

Isn't he the only squaddie we've had who actually has (confirmed) people on Earth?

Hopefully BioWare doesn't simply forget about  this. Posted Image

seems like I missed the big convo yesterday. I knew we could trust Bioware for not screwing with a multiplayer of ME before having ME3 :) And honesrly after yesterday's big leak I wasn't surprised at all it was ME3 their big announcement. It's sad we don't really see anything. It's still all speculation for now, about out squadmates and all. But I think it will be cool! I just can't wait for it :)

And Batteries, the LotSB dlc, the videos were just hilarious! couldn't stop watching people hit the nasty journalist or David Anderson punch Udina lol that was priceless!

I don't know, call me the friggin' Pollyanna of KAST, but it makes no sense to keep the VS back if you're going to relegate them to a role that Hackett or Anderson could have filled. The Alliance will want a representative with Shepard's squad for political/intelligence reasons. The VS fits this and has been set up for this. Does that mean they couldn't create an entirely new character with the same purpose? No. But leaving Kaidan and Ash in limbo makes no sense, either.

This.   :)

This. I know alot of people are trying to keep their hopes down to avoid getting disappointed, but what possible good could come of spending the next year in a perpetual negative state in regards to something you want to be passionate about?

I think the best thing we can do is to encourage BW as much as we can in our thread that Kaidan (and by extension Ashley) is needed, wanted, and enjoyed by the playerbase. That way, the people who work at BW who do look at these threads, have a reminder that people really do want Kaidan. Let's try and be positive, the best we can.

I'm the kind of people who tried to keep my hopes "down" but it's not negative. At least not for me. What I mean is I am not waiting for anything in particular (except that I want my old squad back and not only the humans). I know people sometimes are so excited about something they start believing all the rumours and when the movie/game comes out it's so different than what they expected they have no choice but to be disappointed.

Still, I think BW would be wise to check the threads in their forums to see what player wants. And I think they are wise enough for that (that where I can't keep my hopes down LOL I am too positive about Bioware :P)

I'd also call it realistic. Ash and Kaidan having an important role in ME3 is vague at best even if you are optimistic. We'll simply have to wait and see.

*shrug* I'm just trying to encourage people to keep an open mind and not dwell on the negatives. In my experience, you cannot possibly hope to enjoy something if you spend a full year expecting to be disappointed.

Edit: But you know what. Just ignore me. I'm really tired of feeling like I'm fighting with this community every time I come in here.

On one side, work on any DLC will (edit: may) be minimised and all resources concentrated on game, like it was with DA:O. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind to see fav characters in ME3 instead of DLC. Optimistic as usual.

As long as they don't take it too far.  Some of the fan service was a bit reepy.

Hey all you gloomy gus's, lets have some fun!!!!

I think it is way too soon, considering the very tiny information that has been released about the game to get your hope up or down. Lets just revel in the joy that is Kaidan and leave it at that for now!!!

After all. That is why we are here in the first place.

*yes I own rose colored glasses but I don't need to use them yet. No information is just that: No Information*

Yeah ...WOW...that's what I though, too :)

I'm so excited...but we still have to wait a while to play it...lol...

Anyway, I'm rather curious and somehow my feelings towards ME3 are positiv...and okay, I might wear pink sunglasses...but I have hope that we will see Kaidan and that there is a possible happy ending for Shepard and Kaidan in ME3 :)

Don't know if it's the album you mean but there are a lot of yummy pics there :P

Which reminds me I once saw a pic like the motivationnal posters but it was hilarious. It was INJUSTICE The perfect man is a videogame character. The pic was Alistair though but it could easily be Kaidan as well :) I'll have to find it back

I, for one, am not going to get all down in the dumps and be pessimistic about ME3. We know precious little at this point, and yes, it's easy to think Kaidan will get short shrift, but I'm keeping a little bit of optimistic faith to one side just in case. I won't get too hopeful, but I won't give up completely.

I mentioned in a blog that I had an idea about the trailer that I knew was wrong, but I couldn't help thinking about it because it would have been awesome. I figured since the Blur trailers didn't always get the look of a character exactly as we see the game, and we saw so little of Big Ben in the teaser, I thought it would have been interesting if the guy in the trailer had been Kaidan. But I suppose since he's dead in some playthroughs, they couldn't really focus on him over Ashley. Yes, in spite of Ashley being in the ME2 trailers, but whatever.

But it's not Kaidan, he's Big Ben.
