I do hope Kaidan isn't on Earth. At least not before Shepard gets there. :alien:

Kaidan's is.  His family lives in Vancouver.  Ashley's family is on Ameterasu, which I probably just botched the spelling of.

amaterasu. :P
if the trailer has anything factual to hold to it, then we know most major cities are being hit, if not all.

I do want a Jokermance. It seems like that'd be fun and interesting to do since he's the only Normandy member that cannot die through both games besides Liara.

Honestly, I think BioWare kind of owes the women one in the romance department.

Heh......I wouldnt hold my breath on that. Since we had the "No, I cant be with you/ end of romance,Morrigan's ritual/or death" in DAO. The male players could just tell Al to have the killing blow or have the traitor being a Warden and get out of the mess with their LI.

*Oops, thats not me posting here, thats my negative twin self*

But i do have faith in Bio. For now :)

But sometimes i wonder..............if the Bio writers like female players at all :)

Edit: and sometimes i wonder why Bethesda dont think of including romance on their games. (...i've spent many hours daydreaming of a specific mage at the first TES.....) that would have granted them so many devoted fans :)

Ok. What i would really like to have is the option to send Kai an email with this line:
"Told you so"
or
"Ahhhh...the reapers...you have dissmised that claim"

and now ill go find a nice dark cave to crawl till my evil mood is gone

I'd prefer to send that to the turian councilor. :P Or deliver it personally. I prefer the latter.
Kaidan knows the Reapers are out there though. So does Anderson, I'm sure they've done some sort of work about it behind the scenes. I hope.

LOL

I was just about to write that I didn't like him at first, but now that I've heard him speak I think he's pretty hot..! Posted Image Just give him sad eyes and a good heart, and I'll be happy to have him on my team. Kaidan needs some competition after all, I think one of the reasons he was so catty on Horizon was because he knew we (oops, Femshep I mean) didn't have any better alternatives.

And I'm VERY excited indeed! Throw in a VS DLC early 2011, and you've made me a very happy lady Bioware! Posted Image

First a Kaidan hug for everyone and an apology for the incoming wall of text.  Preliminary TL;DR for those who want to scroll, I THINK WE'RE GONNA BE OKAY AND WE'RE GONNA GET OUR KAIDAN, GUYS.
Posted Image

Maybe I'm just overly optimistic and skewing my perceptions to fit my optimism, but I'm reasonably sure that the VS fans aren't going to get shafted again.  I dragged my fiancé into a discussion about ME3/the VS earlier today and, after a while of theorizing and countering each other with multitudes of examples for why or why not each argument would be valid, we finally settled on one thing: regardless of what has happened or what we want to believe based on BioWare's perceived track record, it is pretty clear that the VS has been set up to be an important character across the entire series and that BioWare probably won't kill off the VS (and for the record, my fiancé doesn't really give a damn about either VS).  If BioWare really didn't give a damn about the VS or the fans, it would have been relatively simple to set Horizon up so that the VS was taken and got ground down into paste by the Collectors.  But that didn't happen.  Granted, Horizon was terrible and we were railroaded into the dialogue, but I get the feeling that there's a good reason for doing so.  Yeah, it sucked, but we have a guarantee that we'll see the VS in the third installment.

Now though, with the (practically) confirmed knowledge that the Reapers are hitting Earth, it's pretty reasonable to assume that the VS is going to become a pretty significant ally.  The VS is someone of relative importance within the Alliance, especially given the history with Shepard.  Now that there is no denying the Reapers, at least for humanity, the VS (yes, the VS; remember, post-Horizon the Council dismissed his claims too) has the opportunity to be, "Huh.  Told you so.  Can we do something about it now?"  And if you're going to do something about the Reapers, who are you going to look to for assistance?  Shepard.  Given the VS's history on Shepard's crew that took down Saren and Soverign, it's really only logical that the Alliance is going to use the VS as a liasion.  After all, technically they aren't supposed to know about the relationship between femShep and Kaidan, for example, so they would have no awareness of the awkward that will inevitably occur.  I'm not too concerned that there's still a "SHEPARD IS WITH CERBERUS ZOMG" stigma; after all, it's stated by Anderson in Retribution that the union between Shepard and Cerberus was an "alliance of convenience" and, for those of us who chose Anderson as the councilor, that decision still carries weight regardless of what was said in Retribution or Inquisition (player's decision > book decisions, confirmed 12/12/10 by Christina Norman).  Add that to Hackett getting Shepard her tags back, and it's pretty evident that there are still Alliance ties.  The VS will only serve to strengthen that, and I think that remaining connected to the Alliance is going to to be significant for ME3.

Emotionally, we've had our hearts torn out, cut apart, stomped on, doused in gasoline and lit on fire.  First we had Virmire, which I think was difficult for most people.  Obviously not everyone is a VS fan, but I think most people built up some sort of attachment to one or both characters and relatively few actually hated one enough to want that one dead.  I know I personally built up a serious attachment to both Ash and Kaidan and I sat there staring at my TV screen for I don't even know how long.  Even now, even though I KNOW who I'm going to save, I have difficulty with it.  My point is, though, that we had one difficult decision to make in the first game regarding the VS and that we all had that moment where we didn't not know whether or not our favorite character was going to live.  That's rough.  Then they gave us Horizon (and the e-mail <_<).  I cried.  No, seriously, I CRIED.

Now, given that, why would they do it to us a third time?  From a writer's standpoint, it doesn't make sense.  We already had to face killing the VS once, so I'm going to guess that it is unlikely that we will see the VS die (though not impossible).  We had to deal with Horizon and all that crap.  It would be stupid to kick us while we're down, give us a sliver of hope, and then kill the VS and demolish anything that hope gave us.  Besides, if I was a writer and I really wanted to make an emotional impact on the player, I'm going to make a well-loved character either betray Shepard, become indoctrinated, or otherwise need to die; in that case, I would choose someone like Joker, not the VS who, while many people have some attachment, isn't exactly popular or well-loved.  It would be a, "Well, that sucked, but I can move on because I still have my LI/other uber favorite character!" (excepting those of us who love the VS).

And it's not just us Kaidan fans BioWare has to face.  They have the Ashley fans to contend with too, so our gender won't necessarily be held against us in terms of our LI.

So, like I said, maybe I'm just overly optimistic, but I think we're going to be okay.

(Edited for various spelling errors)

I did not care for him either at first. I'd blame that one the first shot we got of him, gave me a generic impression.
After going through about 6 different emotions at the same exact time when I saw the Reapers in the trailer, my lagging brain function finally produced: ".... that guy was kinda hot."

But even at this point, I have no idea which Shepard I will import first into ME3. Most likely female, but if I cannot choose, I may just go with my one and only male. Mix things up a little. Would make my life easier if the import section gave a bit more info on what I was importing to ME3. Like romances. I romanced most everyone at some point but cannot always remember who I did in which save.

Melindil (I won't quote your wall'o'text), I agree with you. I'm nervous about getting too hopeful, but this is the way I've thought about it all along. I'll be honest, as much as I'd like to see it, I'm not entirely sure we'll get VS dlc, not because the devs hate us, but because Ash/Kaidan's story is already mapped for ME3. And if that's the case then I'm happy to wait.

The problem is that in ME1 not all LIs were created equal. Ash and Kai had the same LI role, but Liara's was considerably different, and this meant that their treatment was different in ME2. I think they've taken Liara's character in an interesting direction, in terms of the role she can play in aiding us in ME3, and to that end it needed to be set up beforehand. Ash and Kai were tied to the Alliance through loyalty, Liara didn't have those ties. Their roles have to be set up in such a way as makes narrative sense to those who didn't romance them too, and as such their relation to the mission > than their relation to Shepard as LI (from a writing stand point). That means that when (yes, when) they come back it'll be in the context of the mission, and not just so we get some booty. Now, I'd like a Kai booty-call as much as the next KAAS person, believe me, but I'd rather it be written well in the context of the whole ME story than compromised just to placate us rabid fangirls and fanboys.

@Cata, I'm totally with you about being nervous about getting too hopeful. It's like "once bitten, twice shy"---and we've been bitten a whole helluva lot of times.

I have faith though that things will work out.  I mean, Shepard and Kaidan's relationship has always been defined within the context of duty and the mission.  Besides, recovering the relationship after Horizion is an interesting dynamic that, if done right, can further deepen that relationship.  I think they've been counting on ME3 to really let Kaidan and Ash (and the potential relatiionship) shine.

I hope so, Melindil. Do I want to get burned over this? No, of course not; but I can't help believe they'll do their best to do justice to Kai/Ash's story.

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll see him that much in the game. To me at least, he seems like Soldier A1 used to portray the state of the ground troops for the trailer. But who knows..?

And I wish I was as... adventurous as you.. Posted Image I have a bunch of Sheps, and they are all embarrassingly similar. At least when it comes to romances. Posted Image

I'm puzzled by that guy's sudden popularity, since he looks like Generic White Male Video Game Soldier, but I will be anxious about any potential new squadmates until I know officially who will be on the team in ME3.  I still suspect he's just a narrator for this one trailer and not a party member, because of the red herring clue we got before the VGAs...but we'll see.

I'd just be very surprised if Bioware ever put a "leading" human male who was also a potential love interest into a trailer, considering their past performance with Kaidan, Jacob, and even Alistair.  So maybe they're bucking the trend, but my cynical side says no.

Plus, I will be importing my main, "canon" Shepard first, and she is not even looking at anyone but Kaidan.  She will be hella pissed if yet another guy is thrown at her, trying to make her forget him, while bad plot railroading keeps them apart.  If that does indeed happen, I don't think I'm finishing the game, if I even purchase it.  Oh well.  Hope the Reapers really know what they're doing with this whole "destroying the galaxy for it's own good" thing.

It seems a sexy sad voice in that hot brittish accent can do a lot for a mans reputation..

And my main Shep doesn't mind it if Bioware wants to throw handsome men at her all day, she's tough that way. Posted Image But getting Kaidan back is the top priority, options are good for playthrough nr 12 and after.

Most of mine are too. Most have stayed faithful to ME1 characters (all femsheps love Kaidan), mansheps either stayed celibate throughout (KAIDAAAAAAAN! :(( ) or stayed celibate in 1, then I have 1 that went with Miri, 1 that went with Jack. I also have 1 manShep who went with Liara in 1 and again in 2. I've recently started a Shep who will go with Ash and stay faithful in 2.

No Shep of mine will EVER go with Garrus or Tali.

ah the romance with Garrus is so sweet :) he really cares for Shepard, but it doesn't show really when they talk about blowing off steam. But right before they go to the Omega-4 relay ... aaaaaaaw so sweet :) when I realized we could romance him I went for him but I have a special save file where my Shep stays faithful to Kaidan and she'll be the first I'll import in ME3 lol

I never had a Shep romance Jacob. Everytime I try I end up breaking up with him and he hates me LOL poor Jacob. I'm so mean with him, don't know why.

OH NO!  That's not my intention at all!  I was just using it as an example, though I'd probably have been better off citing Joss Whedon for that.

THESE ARE NOT THE DROIDS YOU'RE LOOKING FOR.

Now I'm going to feel REALLY bad if that ends up happening, because I do love Joker. :crying:  He's probably my favorite character after Kaidan.

aww, no Joker indoctrinating! I actually think they must be planning some awesome spaceship maneuvers in 3, what with making sure Joker can't die in 2.

However, this is Kaidan thread. So have a Kaidan. (Update of Persephone Rising for those of you leery of clicking random links.) There's some Joker in there too, though, for those of you who like him too. ^_~

I love Garrus but can never think of him as a LI. When i look at Kaidan's lips and think what these lips could do, it gives me the shivers. When i think about Garrus's, it gives me tottaly diferent shivers. And honestly, im a practical woman. I dont want to spend the nights on bed with Garrus, reading biology and Turian anatomy. Or having Mordin in the next room for advice :)
Thane is more acceptable to me, but......Thane is dying.......
