Ugh, I thought maybe in the PS3 version they would change Kaidan out of the Phoenix armor in the intro but I just read that it's only going to be Liara for everyone now. That's disappointing =/

"The other edit is located in the opening act of Mass Effect 2. The character you romanced in the first game (Liara, Ashley or Kaidan) normally runs up to you for a short scene, but in the PS3 version it's always the same – Liara. If you start up a new save in Mass Effect 2 on the Xbox 360, the game makes a decision for you and chooses either Kaidan or Ashley (depending on if you choose female or male Shepard). The explanation is simple: you're actually able to pick who you want to romance in the comic section, so the game doesn't make an assumption based on your gender anymore. What fantastic news. Posted Image

I doubt we need any more proof now that Liara is supposed to be the "canon" romance.

Don't get me wrong - I love Liara and she's my second favourite after Kaidan, but this blatant favouritism is slowly starting to get on my nerves.

Then why not just keep it as Ashley or Kaidan, if you romanced them in the comic?

This "explanation" is so stupid. The game still makes an assumption, just this time in favour of Liara.

The comic comes after the opening cutscene, so they went with the stalker chick who recovers your body.

That makes sense. But I still think I'm going to cry.

The humour of this makes me feel a little bit better.

But it still doesn't make any sense.  "Oh, we give you the option to know Kaidan and Ashley through a 20-minute comic....then if you romance either of them, it's Liara who runs up to you at the beginning of ME2."

X does not equal Y in this equation.

It doesn't even start to make sense that it's her and not an Alliance crewmember.  I would tell Liara to get everyone off the ship and not my Marine?  I think not.

Other way.  First, crazy blue chick runs up to you in the beginning, then you die, then you get to meet Kaidan and Ashley, romance one of them, and make your face.

Ash and Kaidan now have a total screen time of about four minutes in ME2. That's just lovely. Thank you, BioWare!

Yes, I just read the IGN article.

Okay, the placement makes a tiny bit more sense now.  So the comic is in between when you die and the character creator.

For all the add-ons that PS3 players will get, they are going to miss some great gameplay from ME1.

Edit:

Great. :/

You know, it's ironic that the more I play ME1, the less I like ME2.  A good game should age well, like wine.  I should be able to play it a year and a half later and still get sucked in.  With ME2, I was obsessed with it the first couple times I played it, and I couldn't see the flaws past all the glitter and pizzaz.  Now, ME1 is inferior in terms of graphics, cinematics, and combat, but the more I played it, the more I loved Ashley and Kaidan.  <3

BioWare had better make a kick-ass DLC for us.

Oh, and if they change the voice actors for Ashley and Kaidan in ME3, I will not buy it. I might rent it, but not buy it.

I'm not saying it makes sense in terms of the story. I'm saying it makes sense that if they put the Virmire choice after the cutscene, then Liara would have to be the one they show.

I also don't think it makes sense that they'd put that much work into the comic and into the PS3 version not to just put the choices before everything else. This takes out a huuge amount of the VS's screen time and it is definitely worrisome that they would just scrap the VS's potential role in it.

Yes.

I want to do an experiment.  I want my dad and sister to play ME2 first, then play ME1, and see which one they like better.  Not that they will be wrong if they like ME2 better, but I just want to see that components about each game they liked better.

And I want to see their reaction to Ashley and Kaidan on Horizon.  Will they hate them?  Will they be ambivalent toward them?  Or will they wonder, "who are these people and why are they yelling at me?"  then want to play ME1 (and subsequently like them)?

Might be an indication of how PS3 players will be.

I would really hope that the voice actors are contractually obligated for the entire trilogy. That would be an unacceptable change otherwise.

Chignon was saying how there were VA changes in the German version between ME1 and ME2. There were similar problems with the Italian VAs (there was a thread pleading BioWare to hire better ones a while back).
Changing voice actors would be another kick in the teeth for Ashley and Kaidan fans.

You know, I definitely wasn't a fan of Liara. And this is the third version of this comment because I'd be banned for first two.

Isn't comics before exploding Normandy cutscene the logical decision to explain why you should be sad? Isn't running Kaidan/Ashley at the beginning the only way to look at person we're going to save on Horizon? Nice situation: "One of your former crew, X Y, is stationed at Horizon. Worry about him" - "Sorry, worry about who?"

And for versions - ME was initially with English VAs, then ME gold edition with Russian, and then ME2 with English again

With the way BioWare is going, I don't think I want to see what they have planned for Ash and Kaidan in ME3.

Is anyone else looking forward to question and answer sessions with Casey Hudson, once they start promoting ME3 heavily?  I know I have some questions for him.  <_<

Very true, mineralica.

At least with the ME2 version, you could get a chance to see and meet Kaid and Ash (albiet briefly) before dying.  Then you could recognize them a bit on Horizon.
Now you don't in the PS3 version.
"Central to ME3?"  Yes....they'll probably be Reaper chow that saves the universe.

Those who don't know them don't have to be sad over their loss.

I can see it already: Horizon will not have Ash or Kaidan walking up to you, but - surprise - Liara! Because, you know, the game wouldn't want to make assumptions for the player. Posted Image
