I'm replaying the romance and taking my first crack at writing Kaidan. It's really reinvigorating my love for him. He's just so thoroughly...good while still being a mature and thoughtful realist. And he's sane. I like sane.



I noticed some discussion of his biotic prowess earlier. I think he is really, really good. Like maybe top twenty-five in terms of raw biotic potential in humans, though not in the same class as Jack, Liara or Samara. I'd put him about where Miranda is on the scale, with perhaps a little more power and a little less finesse. Negligible difference though.

I can understand not liking particular characters, I've been guilty of that myself. Most of the reasons I read remind me of children stamping their feet though...Oh he's fat!!! He's whiny!! I respect an honest feeling of dislike but not that.

I don't understand the 'whiny' complaint...Kaidan seems more like "Mr Supportive" to me. He's an adult who seems comfortable in his own skin and happy to listen and support Shepard. I actually found that refreshing after the usual npcs whose problems you have to solve.

My only complaint would be the post-Virmire discussion - I mean really Kaidan, in a room full of people you ask Shepard why she saved you? Liara was obviously listening ;-)

This is a main reason why ME2 Garrus and Tali give me the skeeves in ME2. They know about Shep and the ME1 LI but it doesn't matter to them.

@Fort yeah esspecially if you are romancing Garrus, they could have got him to mention something then. To Kaidan its been over two years, for you its been over what weeks? And its not a gentle re-introduction into the world you wake up startled. But whatever....

They do need a way to handle moving on honorably. I don't begrudge Sheps who genuinely liked the ME2 LI better. I do very much dislike those who feel a need to tear down Kaidan to build there chosen LI up.

@Lovestories - that time shift is why I find it easy to keep my canon Shepard chaste in ME2. As much as I like Garrus its only been weeks for her and she's seen Kaidan on Horizon. No matter if she thought death was coming. Now if she could have offered Garrus a nice hug, that would be different. ;-)

That weirded me out my first playthrough. I had Shepard pour her heart out to him and then Liara is like "ahem Shepard I hate to interrupt" 

Oops, I honestly thought they were alone in the room. So much for keeping their relationship on the downlow.

I have a question: do we know how Kaidan earned any of his commendations? I'm trying to get a handle on his strengths and weaknesses as a soldier. Also, what do you think he would think of Garrus becoming Archangel? My gut says he'd approve.

It doesn't say how he got his commendations at all so I'm not entirely sure. My guess would be going above and beyond the call of duty. 

Personally, I don't think he'd approve of the whole Archangel thing. Kaidan is lawful good; he has a strong desire to follow rules and procedures. Shooting up a space station in the name of good doesn't really fall under that category :/

I'd definitely agree with this. Kaidan is a by the books kind of guy. This is partly why he rejected joining Cerberus, and reviles it.

Yes, and this is exactly how he'd word it. He'd be very concerned about how Garrus was going about his business, but wouldn't be overtly nosy about it.

Yeah I think he'd understand his desire to help, but wouldn't ever go about it the way Garrus did.

@magelet - things on VS bingo are all sayings that we've seen said about Kaidan and Ashley either by trolls on this thread or other threads on the forums. TZ did a brilliant job with it imo
