Summary: Kaidan teams up with a mysterious Alliance operative to continue the fight against the Reapers, but may have bitten off more than he can chew. Especially when that agent is Miranda and the Reapers have a plan of their own.

This made me think of something. If Shepard didn't romance Miranda or Kaidan, how would Kaidan fans feel if the two of them got together in ME3. Sure, the Cerberus connection might make things start off on the wrong foot, but the two of them are close in age and Kaidan is probably the kind of guy who could melt the ice queen Miranda's heart if the two of them spent time together. And if Shepard severed Jacob and Miranda's connection to Cerberus after the Suicide Mission, the Cerberus issue suddenly becomes a lot less of an issue. Thoughts?

I kind of like the idea of non-romanced squadmates pairing off with each other as appropriate. Like Kasumi and Jacob, Ashley and Jacob, Liara and Kaidan, or Liara and Garrus even. Some characters probably wouldn't get involved in romances, like Samara, Zaeed, and Grunt, and a prickly pear like Jack might be a little more difficult to find an appropriate mate for, but you get the general idea.

I kind of hope this to, then again I'm a hopless romantic and want everyone to find their soul mates and live happily ever after. The pair I really want to see is Tali and Kal'reegar. A friend of mine was JUST talking about this and how aborable it would be to have a baby quarian running *ahem* rolling around the Normandy in a little bubble.

This made me chuckle. I have this image of a baby quarian in a hamster ball.

So, who would be the best choice for Kaidan, other than FemShep of course? (And just for fun, who would be the best choice for other squaddies?)

Here's my list:

Kaidan and Miranda (both are L2 biotics, both are human, both have overcome adversity, both have struggled with issues of acceptance.)
Jacob and Ashley (both are soldier types, both are very pro-human, both are fitness buffs, both are pretty no-nonsense and straightforward)
Liara and Garrus (both have a lot of dealings in the "shades of grey" yet both are very concerned about making people pay for their crimes, even if it goes against "the rules")
Tali and Kal'Reeger (you can't tell me Reeger hasn't already been thinking about it)
Zaeed and nobody (seriously, he is beyond damaged goods, more so than Jack even)
Jack and Joker (An odd couple, sure, but Joker seems like he would bring out Jack's gentler nature, and she would never feel "threatened" by him, and Joker no doubt finds her intriguing and kinda dangerous)
Kasumi and nobody (Keiji is a tough act to follow, Jacob's abs notwithstanding)
Gaby and Ken (Those crazy kids in Engineering just have to end up together)
Grunt and nobody (though he ought to be allowed to visit the female clans on Tuchanka)
Samara and nobody (that part of her life really is behind her, she should live out her days hunting ardat-yakshi and righting wrongs in asari space)
Thane and nobody, maaaayyybbbeee Kelly Chambers (regardless of whether his disease can be cured, it's unlikely for him to really be able to find someone new other than FemShep)
Mordin and nobody (salarians don't care about that messy hormone-driven stuff)
Dr. Chakwas and Captain Bailey (I dunno, I think it could work)
Captain Anderson and Kahlee Sanders (come on, they gotta bring Kahlee into ME3 somehow)
EDI and Legion (Kidding!)

While I don't necessarily consider it a best choice, the one I'd be most interested to see is Jack and Kaidan because it's a pairing that initially seems completely counter-intuitive.

Tali and Kal'reegar definitely! As for Kaidan, the only person I want to see him with is Shepard, in my mind she's his soul mate and he wouldn't just hook up with someone else for the sake of it. Not that he would date in Shep's absence or if she moved on but he's far too respectful a guy to date within her crew in either of those instances IMO obviously. As for the others I'm not so sure, there just aren't a lot of matches that I feel really click well and the thought that everyone would just fall in love with each other, dunno maybe they would but I don't buy it.

The idea that Kaidan could only ever fall in love with one person (be it Shep, Miranda, Liara, etc) bothers me. What happens if she dies or something? I prefer to think there's lots of someones out there for him because he's a great guy I want to see happy.

About "what if" pairing - how do you think Kaidan will react on renegade femShep covered with glowing scars? ME2 LI seem to not notice at all, but they've seen the entire process from beginning while Kaidan only saw relatively normal face on Horizon and now he will meet female version of T-800?

I don't think Kaidan would be surprised in the least at how my renegade Shep got the scars. She's not known for being nice and calm XD

I find the whole idea of scarring according to alignment completely idiotic. My own take on Shepard is that she is still in the final stages of healing from all the procedures  when she's woken up early but I think her face would be the least damaged because Ceberus would have taken the most care with it(and started on it the earliest). After all she has to look like Shepard to the outside world but armor can hide a lot.
 
But that's a discussion for the femshep thread and not here.
 
On the actual topic of Kaidan's reaction, I don't think he'd really care about Shepard's scars. He might be shocked at first but an alive and scarred Shepard is preferable to the alternative.

I don't think Kaidan would care about the scars. He's not shallow. I find myself liking the idea of my Shepard having some of those scars because usually it's the guy who is heavily scarred to the point of looking questionably human. It would be interesting to gender flip that.

I agree - Kaidan wouldn't mind scars. But those are red, glowing scars of stupidity that go away if Shepard hugs trees and rescues kittens. I just can't take them seriously, sorry.

He didn't seem to mind the facial scars Shepard had in ME1. Given they were not as bold as the ones in ME2. I wish there was a happy medium.

I liked my original scars from ME1. Dark Side scarring belongs in Fable and Star Wars. I find the idea of Shepard refusing to spare a few resources to fix something so obvious and easily repaired to be ridiculous. The in-game rationale for the scars is that your face hasn't finished healing. So why is Shepard walking around with open wounds? Why is this even an option? That makes no sense, as does the 'think happy thoughts and your wounds will close' bit.

It would be one thing if Shepard's scars were from a battle. Kaidan wouldn't mind something like that. But the ridiculous red and cyborg eyes are ridiculous. That's an extreme of vanity ("Look at me! I'M EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVIL!") that I do think he would find unappealing.

But then, it's also ridiculous that in ME2 you could have a full Renegade bar but still fail Renegade checks and be locked out of certain dialogue options.

Side note: The med-bay was the first upgrade my Renegade purchased. She then killed a Batarian to make sure it was working properly.

@Chig - I don't like the fact that the scars are based on behavior either, ME2 is not KoToR.

It would have been nice if the scars had simply been there, a sign of the Lazarus Project getting only most things right.
