Well, that's definitely true of Meghan, but not Avery.

Even if you play your Shepard more paragon diplomatic, I still like to think at the end of the day Shepard likes to go out and hit things. At least for now while she is still young and full of ****** and vinegar. Waiting4morning wrote a fanfic about her becoming an Alliance instructor after the end of ME3. I really like that idea, it seems oddly fitting for her. As for Kaidan I see him wanting to do whatever allowed him to do the most good, regardless of how boring or exciting it was. Whether that was sitting behind a desk or knee deep in a muddy trench.

The info about the promotions is based on the in game codex entry on military ranks (a copy can be found here masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Codex/Humanity_and_the_Systems_Alliance about halfway down the page). in the first game, Kaidan was a Staff Lieutenant and by ME2 he was a Staff Commander which according to the codex is 2 ranks up whereas Ashley was a Gunnery Chief in ME1 and an Operations Chief in ME2 which is only 1 rank higher.

and we all hope he's on the team in ME3

I enjoyed that story by waiting4morning a lot.  But my own personal preference for the ultimate ending for Shepard and Kaidan is still Chem's After the End

I personally like Chem's one-shot about Ash just as much. Short and sweet. And, having two boys myself, the trying not to laugh while simultaneously checking for injuries just in case? Hysterically accurate.

Hey guys, I got bored today and played around with premiere for a bit.
It's been awhile since I fooled around with that program, so it's not as good as I wanted it to be. I'm working on another but I want to wait for ME3 or hopefully for a VS DLC. I want to have footage of a resolve to Kaidan and Shepard's relationship, whatever it will be. So in the meantime here: World Went Away

Wow, the Kaidan thread really isn't moving today.

In the interests of keeping both of the VS support groups on the front page, I'll post a discussion question, even though I think it might have been covered a few months back:

If Shepard weren't interested in Kaidan, and if you didn't have to choose between Ash and Kaidan on Virmire, do you think the two of them would make a good couple? Why or why not?

I asked my friends whether they did have a little thing if Shepard didn't romance either of them, actually, not knowing about Virmire at the time.  At first I thought they had a little thing going, especially with his Ash thing, but now I don't know if I could really see them paired.

It seems to me that Kaidan takes a big step for him in having feelings for Shepard.  A lot of this probably comes from my own personal experience of romancing him with one character, so others might have a different opinion of it but I don't know if Ashley is really his type.  

Kaidan stumbles over himself a lot because of his feelings for Shepard, and while she seems to find that amusing and cute (based at least on paragon responses) Ashley seems more dismissive, like on the Citadel (You don't take much shore leave, do you L-T?).

Again from my own romance perspective Kaidan seems to fit better with a more laid-back personality, and Ashley seems a little more spit-fire willing-to-get-in-someone's-face jealous when it comes to romance.  Not saying it doesn't work for a renegade/renegon sort of Shepard, but Shepard's role in the romance is often passive - i.e. he/she isn't the one to instigate the love triangle scene.

I dunno, after playing through it now from start to finish I think they're good friends, but I don't think they'd be very good romantic partners for each other.

A good question. I think it would be possible. However, in some ways I think since Kaidan is the ranking officer to Ashley he wouldn't. Hell I think if Shepard and Kaidan's roles had been reversed, and Kaidan was the Commander, he wouldn't have pursued Shepard. He seems like he would take his responsibility over his people to heart. But then again Ashley is a brash, independent woman, which is what he looks for. But I doubt their relationship would last very long. They seem the type that would stay life long friends.

I'm procrastinating in my attempts to roll a new DA:O character, so I'll bite.

I think they could work wonderfully together.  I perceive them as having very complementary personalities (they have their similarities, but are different enough to bring something new and unique to the relationship) and, in my experience, the relationships that work best are the ones where the partners balance each other out.  Kaidan's more logical and Ash is more emotional (the "head and heart" comment from Shepard, if you will) but I perceive them as both being secure enough with themselves to be able to acknowledge any differences or clashes of opinion without being childish about it and perhaps those differences would help them grow as individuals as well as within the relationship.

In short, I'd 'ship it.

His claims about not liking the bookish type aside (and how much of that was because his interest is piqued by Shepard?) - what do you think Kaidan would think of the new Liara in ME2?  She seems to have become a much stronger woman through her dealings with the Shadow Broker in the past two years and I was definitely "WOW!" at her throughout Lair of the Shadow Broker.  

I have to admit, I like Liara more overall than Ashley as far as ME squadmates go and really loved her in LotSB.  I don't know if they'd really go well together, but I could imagine them both geeking out over something.  It would be cute.

Liara is more interesting, but honestly in a way that worries my Shepard more than anything else. Even though he went for Ash, he still cared about Liara as a friend, and it's clear that Liara has been to hell and back and is in need of a friend. The "new" Liara doesn't really feel like Liara, and that's a bit troubling.

Maybe Kaidan would think the same way? It is an awfully dramatic personality shift in just two years. Even though Kaidan does like adventerous women, I should think he'd be a little worried about her, and perhaps a little troubled by some of the methods she has been using to get back at the Shadow Broker.  It seems like it falls dangerously close to "cutting corners" territory.

I think I'd agree with that.  I have to admit, when he first gave me that speech, I had noooo idea what he was talking about.  O_o <--- My actual face then.

It makes a lot more sense hearing it again after he tells you about Vyrnnus, but that first time I was like  "Okay dude, whatever you say....."
