The problem with the opposites is what they tend to alienate with time.
Another pairing question - could Rahna and Kaidan be a good couple (in case of maleShepard)? Technically she's good and kind, but when I first heard about girl who thought guy killed coach protecting her is a monster and didn't helped him to cope with consequences I wanted to deal with her in an unpleasant way. So what wins - kind or unsupportive?

From what I've seen most people in this thread don't want to see Rahna again. I really wouldn't care or mind if she showed up again, romanced Kaidan or not. Same deal with Lilith, Shepard > Everyone else. Plot. Though I assume if you can and do b!tch Rahna out Kaidan would probably get pretty pissed at you.
Don't really blame her for being afraid of him because she had a gentle personality according to Kaidan. And I assume she was around the same age as Kaidan too, which is young.

Not what I would of done, but there it is.

Rahna is a part of Kaidan's past. And this is where she should stay.

I would like to hope Rahna is no longer on Kaidan's radar, regardless if Shepard is male. If she is after almost 20 years my opinion of Kaidan, consisting what she did to him, would go down. Now if she just a lost love and there was no shunning on her part I think it would be sweet. After the hell they both went through, he could come back as her 'white knight.' But as it were she didn't want to have anything to do with him after he tried to protect her. Thus....light the fires ladies and let the witch burn!....ahem....I mean no I don't want them back together.

I really don't understand why people think Kaidan and Rahna is a good idea, let alone reintroducing her to the story somehow. This isn't an "omg Kaidan and Shep 4evur and nobody else" kind of thing; this is a "let's have things make sense" kind of thing.

Kaidan killed Vyrnnus in 2168 when he was 17. The previous year, he received his implants and went to BaAT. This means he knew Rahna for a year. Source This isn't some kind of epic long lost love; this is the equivalent of the girl he had a crush on in highschool. He doesn't bring her up so he can tell Shepard about her specifically. He brings her up as a part of his story about cutting corners. The player can choose to ask about her; if you don't, you don't even get her name or even that she was scared of him after that. I mean, this happened 15 years ago when Kaidan was a kid.

Bringing Rahna back into the picture, especially to reintroduce them to each other as romantic partners would do Kaidan's character a major disservice. Quite frankly, it'd be gross for him to still be pining after the sixteen year old girl that he had a crush on fifteen years ago. If they reintroduce Kaidan and Rahna as a couple or whatever, my opinion of Kaidan would change radically for the worse.

I believe any pairing can be done well, but BW isn't likely to spend the amount of effort it would take to do Kaidan/Rahna well. I'd rather see him with someone else. Miranda is my preference.

I finished the romance for the first time in three years. The thing that struck me most is maybe strange. Shepard's "I'm not looking for a pet." Kaidan is strong enough to fight at Shepard's side, instead of being a lackey. He's her partner, an equal. He's less flashy, but his strength is no less for being understated. He's mature and thoughtful. His idealism isn't blind, but something he's actually thought about. Really, how could I resist?

I agree that there's no way Kaidan would be remotely interested in Rhana maybe there an aspect of reminiscing over his first love (I think at 15 everyone thinks they're in love) you only need to listen to the way he talks about Shep in the e-mail to realise that no-one comes close to Shep let alone some girl from his past that he didn't even have a proper relationship with. If she came back I could only see her possibly having feelings for the man that saved her but Kaidan is totally over that if anything he'd prob be a bit embarrassed and like,

"Hey meet Shepard, the woman I love, you may have heard of her.....what? Yeah she is sometimes called 'saviour of the universe'."

Cue Rhana wilting.

As much as I enjoyed the Lilith smoothie I don't ever really think there was any competition from either woman. Clearly he likes strong decisive women who can look after themselves, obviously neither fits that bill.

I love the "I'm not looking for a pet" line. It really shows that their relationship was something more than just a fling.

As for pairing someone else with Kaidan I honestly don't think any of the other women introduced so far would make a good pairing. Shep is his soul mate because of the kind of woman she is, the way she goes after what she believes in no matter what, it's not that Shep is the only woman for Kaidan, i just don't see that in any of the others to me a pairing would just be for the sake of it. i don't see the point, I'd rather the writers spent time developing the story for romances I actually can believe in.

Kaidan nods in Shepard direction: "Yeah I'm tapping that. Be jealous."

And if Shepard is a man then....

Seriously though, I'm assuming that the "I'm not looking for a pet." is one of the more renegade speech options. I always do paragon options while talking to Kaidan. Kind of afraid I'd say something mean to him if I don't. Though I have been experimenting with some neutral options and been pleasantly surprised.

I'm a Shenko fangirl to the core and I'll be the first to admit that... but why does Kaidan have to be with only FemShep? There are a number of other strong, determined, and adventurous women in the galaxy; we've seen them, hell, we've had them in our squads. If Shepard had remained dead, was Kaidan supposed to just mourn her loss and never move on?

And after thinking it through, if Kaidan isn't with Shepard, I think I agree with jtav in that it'd be nice to see him with Miranda. She definitely fits the bill of "strong, determined, and adventurous." I've mentioned before that I like the idea of him with Ash, but that's not really possible due to Virmire, and that I'd be intrigued to see him with Jack, but in the end, I don't know how well that would work out. Miranda, though... she's a pretty incredible character once you get past the ice queen exterior. I could definitely see that one working out.

Next time, take the "Oh, be a man!" option. I think it's one of my favorites.

I have a couple of games where the saves are just before the conversations with kaidan, it's allowed me hours of entertainment just playing with dialogue to see what each response gives.

I wouldn't like him with Miranda. She doesn't seem "nice" enough to deserve him imo. Ash, Jack, or Samara I'd be more accepting of. Maybe Gianna Parasini.

The point is he doesn't have to be with just FemShep, but in my opinion none of the other women fit the bill, Miranda is pretty strong ane determined but he'd lose interest the first time she bleated on about being genetically perfect. He said he liked Rahna because she was pretty but not in your face about it, I certainly wouldn't say Mianda is pretty and unaware of the fact. I don't think he woild go for the plastic woman. Jack is nuts, Tali is too young, Liara is the bookish sort, Samara not interested, Ashley's dead, that's what I mean not that Shep is the only one ever just I don't see any other pairings *shrug*

@Melindil - oh I will, I'm actually doing another play through right now. I'm decided to be a little meaner and play out the love triangle until the confrontation, instead of completely stop talking to Liara after she confesses her feeling to Shepard.

Has anyone else noticed that if you wait to talk to Sha'ira until after you trigger the romance, the LI will get slightly jealous when she says 'still others for pleasure.' Makes me laugh out loud to see Kaidan try and lay his claim.

I guess it's the Citadel Doctor for him, then. Posted Image

Ash and Liara do the same thing, if you happen to be romancing them.

I've seen video of that online, but never in the game.  I usually tackle the Consort quest early, so at that point I'm not considered "interested" in any of the squaddies.

Dear Kaidan fans,

After more than 11 months and 2500 pages, it is my belief that the Kaidan thread could benefit from a thread restart. As these are public forums, it is my concern that everyone feel welcome to participate wherever they so choose. The simple psychology of it is that 2500 pages is intimidating to a new poster.

I mention this after seeing the comments made by posters new and old after the restarts to the Tali and Liara threads. A new thread has allowed people to revisit old topics without thinking about how such topics had been discussed before multiple times. (And for new posters to the thread, the topic has never been discussed before by them.) A new thread has allowed people to try to cast aside the sore feelings of previous flame wars. A new thread gets to be treated as new.

I write this because I have no desire to close such a large thread only to discover that what I thought was a good idea turns out to be a horrible idea, and Chris Priestly is met with the wrath of many come Monday morning because of what a moderator did. That's why I present my idea to you as posters to this thread to allow you to convince me otherwise if you feel what I want to do is unfair. If people make a reasonable argument for this thread's continued existence, I am nothing if a moderator of the people. Well, in this particular case, at least.

I will tell you that any argument appealing to the sense of pride one might feel to having gone this far without need of a thread closure is not the sort of argument that is going to sway me. Yes, you can be proud of that. But I despise page counts, so it doesn't mean much to me.

Thank you,

Pacifien

As one of the newbies to the thread, it's fine by me, but I probably don't have much say, Pacifen. :-P I think everyone will appreciate your politeness in asking though!

And while this particular thread is still open, I'll say that I thought the Citadel doctor thing was really cute. My Shepard wouldn't expect him to pine after her forever - she might even think that two years was too long for him to stall his own life when she should have never come back. Had she stayed dead, she would have wanted him to move on to someone nice and for him to be happy. The fact that she's back from the dead and it's only been weeks instead of years for her is just really complicated and confusing. Like she told Joker she doesn't blame him for moving on, but at the same time it hurts to think he might have.

I loved how he says he was "talked into having drinks with a doctor on the Citadel" but then immediately adds "it's nothing serious" - always cognizant and concerned for Shepard's feelings even though he did nothing wrong and probably what she would have wanted him to in the case of her permanent death. <3

I don't think there is any harm in restarting our lovely thread. I think it has lasted so long because we are all mature and reasonable people who won't go pulling a hissy fit if we start fresh.

Don't be afraid to pick Renegade options here and then.

"I think you need more practice "appreciating" me.  On the floor and give me twenty, Lieutenant!"
