By the way, can anyone help me with getting one of those pretty signature bars in my signature?

In the sidebar, under "Profile", click on "Forum Settings" and add the image or link to image you want to use.  Here's an example, just take out the spaces:

and the result would be:

And mordin's thread is 4 pages long -_-

I think the Tali, Miranda, and Kaidan threads were all started on the same day and they pretty much are growing the same as before...Tali first...Miranda second...Kaidan third. When everyone votes (and not just a select group) that's pretty much the same way the polls go too.

Both Doctor Chakwas and Tali'Zorah seem to suggest that Shepard is something of an immovable center, a sort of shelter from the storm that people can cling to; heck, the game seems to suggest that with how some people seem outright betrayed that she had the gall to die on them. With that in mind, Kaidan struck me as a tether - someone that helps keep her anchored, even after what he said on Horizon.

This holds true for most people Shepard meets. Thats why I love Kaidan. He really seems to be the only interested in (or realizing there is one) the woman under the commander. Everyone else even close friends like Garrus and Tali seem like they only see the commander, a symbol more than a person. I really hope Kaidan returns to provode some support for Shepard in ME3, for seriously how much can one person take alone.

If you have Dragon Age for the PC, or the Dragon Age Character Creator for the PC, there's a way to upload your own image, if you have one of those and you're interested, I'll PM you.

The Dragon Age Character Creator is free, and it's available for download on this site!  Click on Games on the bar on the top, go to Dragon Age, and then Character Creator.

Thanks.  Off to do that now... had to talk with my parents about booking flights for spring break.  Really should be reading some inorganic chemistry right now but who needs that anyway?

Would you please?  I'd love to have a picture of my Shep instead of my DA:O character who, in my opinion, is far less pretty.

Yeah, I guess it would. I would have thought that Ash would have beaten Miranda though.

This is why I always take the renegade response when recruiting Mordin.

"Why can't just once, I ask someone for help and they say, 'Sure, I'll help. NO strings attached.'"

Or something like that.  Makes me giggle...

That's really how I feel about how Shepard feels toward Kaidan, reluctant to let too much of her feelings apparent because she knows how much people depend on her, but she can't help but rely on him because he's her center.

Yeah, Kate atleast (not sure about all of your respective Shepards ;) ) never struck me as the sort that just breaks down; she's tough and has been through a whole lot already. Like Kaidan, she wouldn't have gotten as far as she has if she didn't know how to keep going in spite of hardships and save grief for when there's time for it.

That said, everyone needs their time to be vulnerable, and Kaidan does seem to be the only one who's really gotten to see that side so far; maybe it's just a common theme with how the Mass Effect 1 romances were written compared to the Mass Effect 2 ones, but with Kaidan it really felt like he was the one thing Shepard herself had to cling to for stability and support.

Bringing me to..

Nahni- I love the idea that our strong, brave FemShep needs someone to lean on as well from time to time. That is probably why the locker scene in ME1 is my favorite scene in either ME1 or ME2.

Yes, agreed. The locker scene is great because it's not only about romance, but also a great deal about support. It seems like the one time throughout the whole series where BioWare actually lets Shepard vent and speak her mind - a time when she gets to be angry, frustrated and vulnerable and have someone else come to ease her troubles for a change.

MICHELLE7 wrote...
Yeah, If he makes her feel like she can take on the whole galaxy then she really is looking to him for support. That's the reason I don't get the people that think Shep is unflappable. I guess I get that it's role playing but if you choose to pursue the relationship with Kaidan especially playing paragon she pretty much admits that she needs him. I mean the choice itself seems to define the role your playing.

Agreed. This might just be my imagining things, but I somehow got the distinct impression that the Kaidan romance actually goes through several.. well.. stages, I suppose - the way it starts it seems that he has an interest in Shepard and she picks up on that and it starts off on a rather playful tone. As things progress, though, more and more things end piled up on her shoulders and he seems to be the one person who notices enough to tell her not to let it get to the point where she's crushed under the weight. Towards the end, it's serious simply because he's been there for her in a way no one else has.

To be honest, in retrospect I don't mind Horizon so much; it would've been great to shout back at him and have a bit more of a quarrel, but thinking about it I think the whole encounter was a bit too much of a shock for Kate in the least to process it properly. After all, on her end she told him to get into an escape pod, then fell into space, then woke up under attack from robots; as much as people say it's been two years, I'm not sure she really ever had the time to emotionally process the fact 'til Kaidan hits her in the face with it.

I admit all of this might just be in my mind as well since it's not exactly like BioWare speaks it out loud, and it's a bit of a stretch that you can't reply; on the other hand, the scene of Shepard staring at the picture somehow seemed to speak volumes.

I can't see how it wouldn't be turned into something in Mass Effect 3, seeing all that.

And.. (ye gods, this is really turning into one huge quote fest..)

Funnily enough, the one case where this really struck out to me was with none other than Conrad Verner; the first time around I was too busy wondering what was up with him claiming I'd stuck a gun in his face to really notice. How he seems personally hurt how Shepard had the gall to die when the universe still very much needed her around.

So yes, I definitely hope this is something BioWare picks up on with Mass Effect 3. Kate needs her shoulder!

Also, in closing:

This is why in my own personal opinion I feel like Kaidan fell in love with Commander Shepard the woman and not Commander Shepard the hero.

Yeah, I'm pretty bummed with what they've done to my main adept Shep, singularity is pretty much useless now & nowhere near as good as it was in ME.  I am finding that Sentinel is turning out to be my favourite class (not just because of Kaidan either, lol).

I might try that on my next playthrough then. It could even make sense for my Shep as a character - she seems to use an omni-tool far more than she did in ME1, and as soon as I started on those minigames for hacking code or splicing circuit-boards, I imagined one of the Cerberus crew or Garrus and Tali commenting "You didn't used to know much about electronics." and Aki saying "A...friend...taught me a bit about it." and then immediately going all quiet and withdrawn for a minute because said "friend" isn't there.

I love this idea!  Sentinel is my favorite ME2 class too so far and I actually was sort of thinking along those lines as an explanation for the change in abilities.  One of the reasons why Miranda is one of my favorite squaddies to take along in 2.
