Thanks, Doug, for the link. I love TV Tropes, and that's *exactly* what I was talking about.
Truth be told, DA was rather too emo for me. Now, I am an angst queen. I love angst and drama in a movie or book or computer game, I truly do. Even my original works of fiction contain plenty of angst. However, I do *not* like things that are nothing but angst. Life isn't like that, it simply isn't. There are moments of happiness and beauty. I won't get into personal specifics here, but I've had some very crap things happen in my life, but I've also had some extremely happy things happen. It's the happy stuff that makes life worth living.
Personally, I don't really want a wedding scene. I'm not sure I even have to have an engagement. What I do want is for my Shep to have the chance to come to an understanding with Kaidan that they love one another and want to be together. I think BioWare has misunderstood its female demographic in some respect. I saw a post on one of the DA threads where the writers were grumbling because they gave the ladies the "fairytale ending" and we *still* weren't happy. Well, I didn't ask for a "fairytale ending"--not that there's anything wrong with them as they have their value too. What I did want was a reasonably happy ending. I am not at all opposed to tragic stories. When done right, they're amazing, but I thought there was more than enough tragedy in DA. Actually, what I really thought was, "Why do these people even bother? Why not just give up and let the darkspawn take over?"
No worries about the link - someone posted a link to TV tropes the other day and I got fly-papered in their for a few hours so it was fresh in my mind, heh.
And I have to agree. Tis annoying that it seems to be angst or sugar ville with no obvious middle ground...
As for the wedding scene... I dunno. I personally think it would be abit too BBC sugary, but I might be wrong.
