My husband and our friends finally talked me in PnP RPing a few years ago. I've played Deadlands, Rifts, D&D, Serenity/Firefly, and we're eagerly awaiting the DA:O book.
It's not boring if you stay in character. We have a friend who plays with us and we always role characters who hate each other. The banter gets to be hysterically funny after awhile.
I do always enjoy listening to the guys play. It can get pretty hilarious. The boring part is waiting while the rules get checked, practically non stop. Also, we had 2 groups of characters in separate areas so we had to wait while the other group took a turn. Also, grell suck.
My husband has been DM'ing since he was 12 through all iterations of the D&D books. He's very professional about it. He makes sure he knows the rules before questions come up, so all we have to do is sit back and be our characters.
One of my friends is whom we call our Rules Lawyer - but he's not obnoxious about it. If a question about the rules comes up, he will handle it by the book - regardless of whom it is in favor of. He also doesn't try to bend the rules to his favor.
My current gaming group is awesome because we've all thrown our hats in the ring for running games, and we all seem to enjoy the various styles. (I actually get hounded by one of the players on a regular basis because my game isn't running...)
Yeah, that's how my husband deals with it. Strictly impartially. I'm the one who never remembers the rules. They usually involve too much math for me to do on the fly. There's a reason I majored in English.
Funny story: One of the few games my husband played instead of DM'ed -- Deadlands -- he and our friend both rolled Texas Rangers. Halfway through the game, I figured out something odd about the antagonistic relationship between their characters. Seems that without discussing it, my husband rolled Mal Reynolds and our friend rolled Jayne Cobb. I spent a good fifteen minutes giggling over that and had to call a time out in the game.
Haha, too funny.
In one of our short lived tries of 4th ed D&D, the boyfriend and I made a pair of halfling twins. He was a rogue, and I was a ranger, and we were epic in our greatness. (Much like Niftu Cal)

A good DM makes all the difference. One of our players knows the rules better than my husband. We also tend to get a lot of new players and that slows things down a bit. Playing 2-3 times a year also puts a damper on things.
My husband would love me to keep playing but honestly I have so little time for fun that I'm going to spend it doing stuff I enjoy more. LIke ME.
My hubby and I have been wanting to try DD. We even bought the book for Firefly, but haven't actually played it yet.

Well, a ME-based game would be like our DAO game. We didn't want to wait for actual source materials so we adapted other books to it. We had the Iron Heroes source book, which fit pretty well with the character classes in DAO so we just worked around that.
Choices for futuristic stuff would be Rifts, D20 Modern, or Star Wars. Star Wars is the easiest.

Our group has talked about putting together a ME-based game. It would require some finessing of some Star Wars books though since that would be the best way to incorporate biotics.
That. Would. Be. Epic!

Pulling together the other topic + Kaidan.
If BW does decide to offer same sex options for the love of god please introduce new characters for it, don’t just pull a DA and make some of the characters bisexual. I know none of us on this forum want to see maleshep hitting on Kaidan and I’m pretty sure the Ash fans don’t want femshep hitting on Ashley.
This! This! 100x this. Like I said earlier, I think it would be nice if Bioware actually wrote an exclusively gay or lesbian love interest.
I'm pretty sure Biotic Warlock would like to see maleshep hitting on Kaidan.
I feel it would be completely OOC for Kaidan or Ash to be bi. IMO. I don't want to see it.
Personally, I can do without the gay/lesbian LI, but I think it would be nice for the people that do want it. I don't understand why Bioware feels the need to always include the fem/fem romance/fling but they hesitate with the male/male. Yes, I'm counting asari as female. I guess it's becuase a lot of guys fantasize about it girl on girl?
Enough with all the asari coming on to be fem shep. At least give me a renegade interrupt so I can punch them.

Yeah, I felt very uninspired in that game, but it was my first time.
You figure out how to adapt ME to a PnP, you'll have to let me know. My husband loves inventing games, too. Using the Star Wars rules for biotics would be right up his alley. I think he's been looking at it from a Shadowrun angle, though.

Huh. I got invited along by a classmate when he and some others from
our school did some roleplaying. Was hilarious to listen to them, and
it really got me inspired to draw, but it wasn't really something for
me I think. *Snorts* I'm pretty sure the DM
was out for my head. Not to mention I'm so shy that sitting in room
with 6-7 guys (Including my crush) on a saturday night made me be somewhat... quiet...
But they ran with quite simplified rules (As far as I gathered, the game's rules
weren't even as complex as the D&D rules to begin with) so combat
was quite fastpaced.
Hehe yeah, being the only female in a room of five guys can be very interesting, but I'm not shy about speaking up. Of course, it probably helps that I do not have a crush on any of my fellow players.

Gamesworkshop was awesome. They made my favorite board game of all time. Talisman.
Freaking A. I love Talisman.Although I now forbid my husband from using the dragon expansion. Too many dragons!
My first goal in every game was to rush to the Cityscape and try to become the Sheriff. For some reason, I always wanted to be the Sheriff.
My brother on the other hand always wanted to be the Astromancer and stay in Timescape.
It makes me sad because I can't find my overstuff box with all the expansions in it.
Oh, sad.
That game is certainly epic with all the expansions laid out. Last time my hubby hung out in Timescape and the rest of us were just like, ok John, have fun over there. lol
I hated the Timescape so much.
I do recall one Saturday night years ago, we were playing as family game night and the game was going on into the whee hours of the morning. My mom and I were thankful for the Dragon Expansion that night. The Sacrificial Stone card got drawn and we kept heading there to get killed so we could go to bed.
Awesome.
I think I'm going to talk my hubby into playing some Talisman for his birthday.

Oh, I so wanted to punch Shiala when she hit on my femShep. Or else quote my best friend at her:
"I'm taken. Get. Another. Girlfriend."
(Long story, and it actually involves a D&D game)

I am used to being the only girl normally at the table in any of our PnP table top games. Course, as I think I menitoned before, the boyfriend worked his way into one of my groups so he could chat me up. And I was oblivious to this fact. It just happened that he wasn't like one of the many creepy guys who would hit on me blatantly. It's been much nicer gaming at a friend's place where I don't have to worry about that any more.

Girl gamers for the most part are used to be vastly out numbered, the ones that are uncomfortable don't last long.

I totally have the shy thing, but at my house with hubby, son and some good buddies it's ok.
This reminds me of the time we had a bunch of people over to play Gears of War 2. We had several tvs going. I got really into the game and started unintentionally shouting some hefty swears. I think I really scared a couple of the guys. I seem so innocent at first glance. I was pretty embarrassed. I ran off to play Mass Effect shortly thereafter. Oh, and yes I was the only girl there.

Haha, I have no problems at all hanging out with guys normally, I tend to welcome said classmates company during lunch hours when I normally find a empty table in some corner. (Booyah, anti-social person here) but eh, didn't know all of them, and the pressure of not wanting to slow down for the rest as I tried to wrap my mind around the rules got quite big. *Shrugs* Oh and I don't really act differently around said crush, but still, somewhat awkward when clothes starts to get dropped before people head to their various sleeping spots.

Hehehe, this is why I game with people I consider brothers. We have Resident Evil 5. We shoot up zombies since it's a twoplayer game, cussing like marines on shore leave. Especially when one of us buys it.

In D&D or gaming? I think Popcap published a thing that said the 'average gamer' was now a 40 year old woman, *chuckles* Of course, thats of Popcap games *hides copy of Plants vs Zombies*

I feel no attachment to any of the characters this time around, they feel so...unreal. Dialogue isn't flowing and often makes me frown as if it was badly translated. Normally I have no problems dealing with it but so close after games like ME and DA, I just can't stomach this colourful world where teens with guns and swords walk around in skimpy clothes. *sighs* I'm turning into an old hag.

Ah, I've always been too old then, *snickers* Ah, don't say that hun, you're just not willing to buy the bull poo of 'I look 12 but I'm really 18 honest' that JRPGs pull all the time. *p-hugs*
