Indeedie! But I've never 'Got' JRPGs - not most "J-" games like MGS. WHY ARE YOU SHOWING ME A MOVIE IN MY GAME? - is all I can think when I'm 'playing' a JRPG. Also, "Why is that squeeky voiced kid running around with a sword? Shouldn't the adults take the deadly weapon off of him?"

Link gets away with it, but the rest....*ergh*.

Yeah, had a character pick up a weapon and she went SQUEEEE LOOKY, SHINY!, think she even giggled and I wanted to shoot myself.

 /end rant

*beats head into table* Make the squeaky Japanese characters stop, MAKE THEM STOP!

Oh. My. God.  Are you SERIOUS?

I think I'll stick with the ambiguous moral choices and the grownups in the Bioware games.

We would like to find more gamers to have over for RP'ing, especially since our friend moved away.   But you can't really go around advertising for that sort of thing.  Because RP'ing, for the rest of the world, means something ENTIRELY different.

I think that add would get more applicants without any clarification though.

See?  And that is our problem.   I don't want people showing up at door in inappropriate leather outfits.

Oh, thats ok. I'd just turn up "o naturale" :innocent:

I'm nearing that point with FF myself. I couldn't resist the new one because I have so many fond memories of FFVII and FFVIII. I remember spending the hour and a half to beat the end boss of FFVIII the first time. It felt epic, and at the start of phase 4, I thought it would never end. LOL

Yeah, always pick up the FF latest...but this one is really getting on my nerves. Just disappointed, was actually looking forward to it. I hardly even started the game and frustration kicks in, that's not a good sign.
I'll relax and try again later.

Guess I'm going back to photoshop after all, way to edgy now..feel like punching stuff, need something soothing. Darn it.

Well, the only FF's I've played are the old 16-bit era one on the emulators, and I really couldn't get into them at all - too much 'cutscene' to gameplay, most of which was just dull...bah *rocks in the old man chair on the BatPerch and tucks in his blankie*

ICE = Immigration and Customs Enforcement.  (What USED to be the INS.)

But I figure Becca's more frightening.

I was kidding anyway. :D

Well, FF is aimed at the younger audiences in Japan. I mean, lovely stories, and I've never cried as at the endings of Crisis Core FFVII or FFX, even the ending of Kingdom Hearts 2 made me tear up, but eh, I agree, you miss the feeling of DA and ME after that you've played them.

*noddles* Well, that would explain it. But what I've never understood is the way the Japanese seem to treat gaming. They seem to see it as a platform for a movie, not as something where the player can interact with, if you see what I mean...

Though I've play at least one game like that that was awesome :D Anachronox (YouTube)

Aye, I think I mentioned several times before that I've been playing ME for a friend lately. She loves all asian games, Final Fantasy in particular, and was shocked over at how you could interact and choose in ME and DA. "Eeeeeeeh, you actually get to choose how to look!?"

To that point, I've decided to haunt a convention in the future, wearing the Cerberus uniform (Because its easiest to recognize) and then take count on how many who recognizes it. Ehum. Absolutely not because I want to make the pants with way too many pockets. *Coughs*

Well, Doug, I think you're hitting the nail on the head - so to speak - about the difference between jRPG and western RPG these days. Most jRPGs are fairly linear - beautiful - but you are merely completing the preplotted quest that you cannot deviate from. Western RPG developers are the ones coming out with the innovative ways of telling the stories - where you can mold more your own personality to the character (or make the character more your own).

If I lose enough weight by Dragon*Con, I am totally going to make a ME costume to wear. I will be representing femShep!

*chuckles* Well, what I really hate are the Wapanese - the one's who think everything Japanese is SO MUCH BETTER THAN ANYTHING WESTERN (snotty tone).

But that would be amusing to see

Indeedie - I don't mind being lead around by the nose, so to speak, but at least act like I've a choice - Valve and western FPS' manage most of the time to make it seem like its my choice, why can't JRPGs...

*Snorts* Or the ones that butchers the Japanese language, shouting "KAWAII DESUUUUUU!". Or the yaoi fangirls/boys... *Shudders* Really, not fun when people asks you four five times to make a "yaoi pose" with your friend. <_<

Oh yeah, needs more costumes from western games at the cons here.

I've not been to a con... does everyone dress up or just a few people?
