"Here's to ME3, and to love interests... acting like love interests!" /General Septimus

Kaidan and Ash I deem salvageable, they aren't FUBAR like Liara is.

I do hope the devs make a bit more of an effort in separating their characters from each other. Since one is a noncom and the other an officer, they can't simply keep inserting them in the same slot 100%, without things starting to look silly at some point. Both are marines, but Kaidan is a biotic and a tech expert, and his battlefield role would be different from Ash, even if they were of similar rank.

That's one worry that I have. Ash and Kaidan had the same lines in ME2...

Erm, weren't they polar opposites in ME1? The most renegade and the most paragon? Soldier and biotic/tech? Male and female? Officer and NCO? Quiet and boisterous? Boobs and boy parts? Used to aliens and not used to Aliens?

EDIT: Incidentally, I felt that the locker scene is absolutely instrumental in showing the development of the romances. It was beautifully done, really an excellent culmination of the relationship so far and a great lead in to the night before Ilos.  I think that not having something analogous really, really hurt the ME2 LIs.

I totally agree. Something after the Reaper IFF Crew Snatch Snafu would have been a good time for something analogus.

Hell, even Liara was acting like she was part of Alliance military in the beginning. "Aye aye"? Really devs? You couldn't write her those few lines that sound like her, and not merely copy pasted stuff from Ash and Kaidan?

But back to Kaidan and Ash. I do think their role will be somewhat interchangeable in ME3. Not the ideal solution, but Bioware will cut corners when it comes to "legacy" material, we've all seen that in ME2. Let's hope they invent a really good solution, that actually makes their somewhat interchangeable role plausible?

For example, if there is a new org we have to work for, they could be the Alliance contribution to the multi-species anti-Reaper "strike" team, that Shepard is the leader of. But even there, you run into problems. Kaidan would be a natural XO choice for Shepard, something that Ash has not been trained for.

I think they're Anderson's personal agent atm, searching for proof of the reapers for the rest of the Council.

It is my hope that they return as squadmates as Anderson's 'agent in the know' so to speak. So, basically, Shepard would be on probation after the whole Cerberus thing. The rest of the Council would probably approve of this.

You guys!

If you import a Shepard, the ID code will be in your squad screen. I just noticed it.

Anderson's "spy" would be pretty neutral but I really wish they would do something different. That seems like the most likey scenario though.

Sadly, thats the default ID code. It doesn't actually apply to your specific chr.

Infact there are some things that don't convert at all from ME1. Certain eye colors for example.

Just a quick goodmorning and Winde, love the art. Kaidan in the officer uniform thing....is just....yummyummm. Can you imagine meeting him at the Citadel in ME3 wearing that, standing up straight, all stern looking....and then get a paragon interrupt and have Shepard pounce him. Yes, I would do that ;)

What? That's absolutely lame.

That's almost as lame as Conrad saying that Paragons shoved a gun in his face.

That's almost as lame as getting emails from everyone and not being able to reply to them.

In all seriousness, this game feels very rushed and at other times, it feels half-assed.

Ignore the nitpick, this game is quite polished.

No game is perfect, no game ever will be. There will always be flaws, both gameplay and plot. Just find the strengths and focus on them, and ME2 has alot of them.

Agreed. The Conrad thing was really bad.

OK, so... you guys know that pop song that was huge last year "Down" maybe it's becasue it was huge during the time I was playing ME non-stop, but that song always makes me think of Kaidan and Shepard lol

Lots of new faces around here, great to see all the support for Kaidan.
I'm sure he doesn't mind either, right Alenko?

So, I just finished my renegade ME1 playthrough as an Adept and I still never found the dialogue about biotics with Kaidan. :

Do you have a save right before you activate the beacon on Eden Prime?  I think the biotic conversation is after you wake up, and Kaidan is standing in a different spot than usual.  You need to choose the investigate options, I believe...

Nah it's def not there, I tried every option, I think that if you ask Chakwas about Kaidan you don't get it but it's not the 1st one, so maybe after the first mission, I didn't get a chance to try that one as I would have to go all the way through the citadel again.

I went through all my conversation saves and tried lots of options but couldn't find it. I also got as far as the first post-mission conversation on a third playthrough of my canon female Adept, having made sure I didn't speak to Chakwas as per BECC's suggestion, and I couldn't get it to trigger then either. So boo. Maybe you can't get it as a female Shep who's romancing him? I'm trying a rushthrough as a male Adept to see if it's hidden away in non-romance dialog, got as far as the first post-mission conversation there and haven't found it yet. Will probably carry on with that after I finally beat ME2 - going through the Omega relay tonight!

Why does Shepard have to fix everyone? There's nobody that's there for her. No one. She's completely alone.

I notice in ME2 there are a fair number of "Investigate" options where you can basically ask "And why exactly can you not do this simple task yourself?". This amused me.

I would have loved to have talked to Dr. Chakwas and Tali/Garrus about Alenko...Especially the good Doctor (especially considering you get to get drunk with her!), after all the asking about him I did back in ME1, I think she figured out pretty quickly that stemmed from more than strictly professional interest.

Yes, gief! This was actually much my main issue with Dragon Age too, really; especially since characters there tend to be just a tad worse off. I don't need Shepard to have a complete breakdown and collapse, but some moments of possible frustration, melancholy and reminiscing would've been welcome. It doesn't have to be long either, just punch fist in wall, someone asks if okay, done.

Heck, they gave people the ability to hold button to cuddle current love interest once they pick one up; why couldn't they have added the ability to hold button to stare longingly at past love interest picture? I would've loved that, to be honest.

..actually, thinking about that just filled my head with the hilarious mental image of being able to talk to the picture, which of course would say nothing back, being a picture, but still.
Shepard: *stares at picture*
Picture: *is a picture*
Shepard: We'll talk later, Kaidan. *gets up*

I'm sure EDI would have a field day figuring that conversation out.

Not having tried them, just seen them, I shall still say: Indeed.
I think this is really part of a problem with how Mass Effect 2 isn't really weaved together the way the first one was. It was a moment that carried both the plot, the romance and the characters of both the love interest and Shepard him/herself. It was a well done pivot point; Mass Effect 2 seems to be a little too scattered up to pull off anything similar.

My first reaction was "wait.. wait.. what? Uhm.. Conrad.. what? Ah.. BioWare! It seems we have a bug here!"; I'm still wondering if we'll get word on who broke his fragile little mind, and if it will be un-broken later.
