Well there's something to be said for a tragic romantic death ending.
I always liked the Carth + Revan die on the Star Forge ending from KotOR which they stupidly cut: www.youtube.com/watch

I dunno I just liked Carth's dedication to saving the woman he loved from true darkness.
It should be an option I say.

That ending made me cry so hard!

It's the one and only reason I ever went dark side in KotOR.

I was poking around the old Mass Effect community page, while looking for information on how to get ahold of the DLC (played ME for the first time just before ME2 came out), and discovered a profile on Ash, which included an email from Ash to one of her sisters.

I've served with these guys for eight months now. Yeah, some of them make me feel tingly (and yeah, James was kinda scruffy-cute). I hope I never have to decide who lives and who dies. But if I have to, my decision can't be muddled up by magic-sparkly-hearts-and-stars feelings.

Ouch.  I was still feeling guilty about leaving Ash on Virmire, because however my Shep might rationalize it, everybody knew that she would never have left Kaidan.  Kinda made me rethink her final messages to Shep: "I understand, Commander."  Yeah, she probably did. 

It's a shame that email wasn't included in the actual game.  Would surely have been easy enough to allow you to access her laptop down by the gun cleaning table after she had died, and - for me at least - it would have had a lot of emotional impact.

It kinda explains her reaction if Maleshep lets Kaidan die instead of her on Virmire is you ask me. I can understand why she went off on him. She never wanted to be in the position Shep found himself in but I'm sure she felt as responsible for what happened as he did...since she would have been the reason Kaidan died.

I don't think she would have exactly approved, but she would have understood. And would have enjoyed teasing Kaidan about it - her and Joker would tag-team on winding him up. I bet that's why he hides behind that flickery screen in the mess, come to think of it - the hold would be better for his migraines, but he'd have to put up with being needled all the time!

I think it says a lot about the power of Kaidan's attraction that we can look past the poofy hair.

I love it when Kaidan trips over his words, so adorable! All nervous "uh"s and "...ma'am"s, haha.

I always send him with the nuke, I didn't even question it. He's the tech specialist and Ash is the soldier, that was enough for me. Plus I love femshep reaching down to help him up, which is later mirrored so beautifully in the locker scene!

ETA: About his hair, if he
gets a trim, I think it should stay the way it looks in the pics of him
where he's facing the camera, like the one posted further up on the
page. Can't really picture him with some of the maleshep options,
brr...Sheploo's style could be kind of hot on Kaidan too, though. Hmm.

I always take him in my squad and leave him with the nuke. I then backtrack and save him. In my Paragon/Cannon playthrough, I manage to save Kaidan and just about all the Salarians (as Kirahe and the supply officer are both on the ship). I do everything to keep fire off them whenever possible though.

In my renegade playthrough, I still saved Kaidan at the nuke, but I was amazed how many Salarians still lived. I did nothing to make their tasks easier, so I expected none of them to live.

And you two   /hugsyouboth Relationships can be hard once they go sour. Still picking myself up after a break up that happened over a year ago.  But all you can do is gain wisdom from your experiences and take a step forward one at a time. I hope things go well for the both of you.

Naked Kaidan with a bowl of chocolate peanut butter cup ice cream....well tis' few ills on this earth that wouldn't cure...

Thank you for the well wishes...I'm actually at a good place now...had time to get over things and am hopeful for the future...spend most of my time buried in classwork (going back to University as a "mature" student is interesting, to say the least...) and I live vicariously through my favorite games...

Part of me also curses Bioware because being single and listening to some of the amazingly sexy/loving things that some of their male LI's say...it's probably going to be harder for me to be impressed by real life men

And I love hanging out here...cause' your all fabulous beyond words (no ******)..beautiful Kaidan pics, stories, drawings, discussions...this thread is just swimming with pure awesomeness...

Since he's the tech, I always take him with me to arm the nuke. I did send him with the Salarians once just so I could go to the AA tower instead of return to the Nuke though.

It shows Saren arriving and fighting Shepard in the water, and grabbing her by the throat and dangling her over the edge of the tower.  Then she decks him, magically lands on solid ground, and hauls Kaidan up (who was taking fire by the nuke) and gets to the Normandy.  You don't see what goes on at the AA tower in this case, Kirrahe and crew just show up on board.

In my game i go to kaiden and the salarians. It does the same stuff you described... only it shows Ash shooting off Geth lying next to the bomb defending it, then seeing the shuttle leave then... BOOOOM
