IMO I was disappointed Garrus had fallen so far when you meet up with him in ME2.  I mean my paragon FemShep had worked very hard in ME1 to convince he to do things the right way not the fastest.  I think if he really wanted to help people he should have tried to do something besides shoot mercs.

And yes I could see tension between Kaidan and several crew members:  Liara, Garrus, Joker, Chakwas, Miranda, Jacob and my FemShep.  I just hope BW gives us lots of dialog and lets the squad mates talk with each other.

I was sad to see the path Garrus had taken (even if it was taking out mercs... his mindset was a bit off), but I thought about how hard you had to work on bringing Garrus around in ME1 then thought about how traumatic it must have been for him when Shepard was lost. He was just getting around to setting out in life on a new path Shepard had helped him find, and then he loses that friend in a blink of the eye. I figured it wasn't much of a stretch for him to revert to a comfortable place and start acting outside the law once more. Especially with everyone Shepard had worked for  twisting, hiding, or simply throwning away everything she did and stood for.

Personally, I loved the direction Garrus chose to progress in, story-wise. It goes to show that Shepard, as great as she is, can't prevent every single thing from happening, and that all characters have a moment where they are challenged to their limitations. I wanted to see how far Garrus would take his ambition and idealism for the worse, and then see what he is capable of doing to bring himself back on track. Adversity defines character, and ME2 Garrus delievered, IMO. It was a nice touch to rediscover his old self, though, despite being only available in his romance storyline.

Whatever the mix is, I say there's Mediterranean in there, and I love it. :D

According to the books, the human species has interbred so much that race and ethnicity are pretty much completely mixed for everyone.  Blonde or red hair is very rare, as is alabaster skin.

Ahhh, now this is the KAST discussion I fell in love with!  I have to shower and then go out, so, in short:

I love everyone's wonderful suggestions for tension between Kaidan and various already named squaddies, hope we get to see it as intra-party banter, but trying not to get my hopes up; my Kaidan is part Slavic (most likely Ukrainian) and part Asian/possibly part Iranian: he's a delectable bite of multicultural manflesh and I love that they made a lot of characters so mixed! Especially since it had such interesting sexy results.

Love you guys!

I kinda kinda saw them as a good match.(Please dont kill me!:crying:)

Although he is a rational calm guy, meanwhile she is a xenophobe with a short temper.

I always thought Kaidan had a rather Mediterranean look to him.  I could see Ash as being at least part Hispanic, but I have a harder time seeing it with Kaidan.

Enjoy whatever you're going out to do, Kim.  <3 (NH)

Interesting takes on Kaidan's ethnicity. I assumed Hispanic also. I remember reading in the Mass Effect books that the world's population is mostly medium skinned to dark, because traits like fair skin and hair and eyes have all but become absent from the population. Works for me- I like men with dark hair and eyes and a deeper skin tone anyway. Only dated a blue eyed blonde once, and it was for his personality.

Agreed, again. :o I'm all for complementary partners in a relationship. So at least we'll both die together, or rot in the same jail cell.

I think Bioware was planning on having them paired off in ME1, if Shepard didn't romance either one. (They discarded the idea after they ran out of time.) There were actually developer posts commenting on that, but it'd take while for me to fish them out from the old Bioware forums.

I prefer Xbox...  for sweet, sweet gamerscore points...

But my Alienware M11x will be here soon, so I may start playing more PC games.  Might invest in 2nd copies of DA:O and ME2 while I'm at it.  Already have KOTOR, NWN, and JE for PC...

Off-topic...  Just found out I'm getting promoted at work.  Woot!  :o

Kaidan's ethnicity is an interesting puzzle.

He's got a Japanese first name. His last name is eastern European-ish. He's got very coarse, wavy hair and it is a pure black (Mediterranean?). His eyes very slightly almond-shaped. But his jawline and clefted chin are very 'white' features.

So, he's quite the mix. One thing I'd like to point out is that I don't think he's half asian, as those genes tend to be very dominant (look at the Gosselin kids). It's my assumption that he's maybe 1/4 or 1/8.

But, if we knew who his face model was, then the problem could be partially solved. Then the poor man would have to move far, far away from society for protection. ^_^

See that's where I have been trying to discern his ethnicity. I think he (and Ash) both show how mixed the human ethnicities have become in the years.

I just consider my Shep to have some genetic throwback to a family history mixed with alot of Russian and Nordic ancestors.
