IRL I HATE it when people call me "Ma'am". It makes me feel old. It never bothers me in ME, though...

Hey guys! DAO: Awakening is turning out to be much more addictive (and involved) than I'd feared. It had a bumpy start, but I did get a kiss from "my dear husband" Alistair (albeit on the cheek).
Strange having everyone in the game call me "Commander" now. Oh, except for the massively large amount of NPCs that keep calling me "sir".An oversight that didn't really happen in the original game.
I'm really, really pumped about the DA2 insert included, which has a 02.01.2011 release date. I had no idea the turn around would be that quick!
Anyhow, I'm off again until I've played it completely through, but I just thought I'd let you all know that it doesn't in fact suck as I'd feared it would. I still miss Alistair, but I'm growing to love Anders and his kitty silliness.Too bad he's not fling material...
Sir or Ser? And I think the army use Sir instead of Madam.
It's actually not that unusual in fiction for army types to call all officers/leaders sir regardless of gender. Emphasizing the chain of command rather than the individual. My husband's home recuperating, so I'm letting him usurp the tv to watch what he wants, so I haven't gotten very far in Awakening yet. Nice to know it should be enjoyable when I get that far.

The "sir" might not have been so noticable if it had happened EVER in the original game. You're not a Knight. You're the "Commander of the Gray".

You weren't commander of the Grey wardens in DA:O - you where an outlaw for a large chunk of it, then your status was kinda...ill-defined, heh.

I'm enjoying it too. Stayed up waaay too late last night playing and am finding self jumping between KAAS thread, game and work. Not enough time in the day! grrr
Haven't gotten as far along as you but have kitten, will travel! Am trying not to say much about DA out here though since not everyone has the game yet. (It's so hard to be good!!!)

Meh... I agree with Mrs Templar. It should be "My Lady" or nothing. Espec since I'm married to the king.

*grins* Yeah, I never get used to "Ma'am." I look around for my mother or my mother-in-law. But it is part of military courtesy. I find whenever I'm working with military families or veterans -- males in particular - I often find them to be very polite and wanting to use "Ms." or "Ma'am" when addressing me. Takes awhile to convince them to use my first name but we eventually get there. Anyway -personal example but I try to keep it in mind while playing DA.

Actually, their version of the King wasn't the typical feudal overlord type that was common throughout Europe in the middle ages. So, I don't know if they have such big titles for the king as "Your Majesty"
Instead of the King being the overlord granting land and title downwards, the King of Feledun actually is supported by the lords instead - more like a President than a dictator really.

Just wanted to say again that your letters really brightened my day. One of my minions was supposed to be in after a Dr appt today - and then managed to fail at sending an email to let me know that she would not in fact be in. Three hours later, I finally get a hold of her. So, hurray for funny Kaidan related stuff today.
PS: Subtitles in Awakening confirm that they use "Ser" when speaking to you, not sir.

Just stay away from doctors on the Citadel. Should be easy enough...
