This will probably be a depressing topic, but I was just thinking about the first time I played ME2 and I got to Horizon. First, it was all "Yay! Finally!" Then I was pretty sure the Collectors were going to abduct Kaidan, which would then be my main motivation for getting to their base. Then I was a bit confused that Kaidan somehow managed not to be captured. Then it was "What? Wait... Did he just dump me?!" I actually felt a bit deflated after that. I had to admire Bioware's guts for trying to play the romance like that, but felt like I'd been kicked in the chest. Then I got the email and was terribly confused. Then I didn't know whether to admire Bioware or hate them for reinacting an actual real life romance to me.

To sum up my feelings about Bioware, I quote HK-47: You are a very harsh master, Master. I like you.

Yeah, I respect the fact that Bioware is evolving the way romances in their games work, from "oh hey, Player Character, I just met you, and I may act suspicious/mean/arrogant at first, but I will fall in love with you soon" to more realistic relationships with ups and downs, like Alistair and Zevran in Dragon Age, and how Ash/Kaidan are progressing here.

I still want my happy ending, though.  And I'd be more than okay with resolving my troubles with Kaidan at the beginning of ME3, instead of near the end.  If he's not a squadmate, or he's only available near the end of ME3, I'd be pretty sore.

Well, even Carth's romance seemed like a fairly natural progression of how romance can develop. Bioware has always seemed to do these well. I just am unhappy because I have no patience. I want Kaidan back now!

I like that he reacted like that, that he then felt terrible about it, and that he's obviously confused and still loves her and doesn't know what to think or where to direct his anger. 

I think it was a very complex move on the part of bioware. I just wish that we'd gotten more Kaidan afterwards. Or that we'll get hella Kaidan in ME3. OR ELSE.

This!  It is so in character for both Ashley and Kaidan to yell at Shepard... but having nothing else of them, and no ability to attempt to contact them again later, is just traumatic.

If they can't give us more Ash/Kaidan/Liara after Horizon because it messes with their story plans for ME3, I suppose I can understand that, but I still wish they'd give us something.  Giving us nothing just raises the frustration and expectation levels way past any point it would be possible for a game to deliver. imho, etc.
So, I still hope for the impossible, ie some fantastical romance pack dlc that somehow magically includes a prologue with ME1 people?!  *snorts*

Ok, what if they put out a romance DLC that does not include anything of the ME1 LI... BUT they put out an official confirmation that the ME1 LI are playing a crucial role in ME3 and will be recruitable as a squad member?

Since that's actually what I expect them to do... I have no problem with it.

I think I'd be ok with this too. I'd be sad that I wasn't in the DLC, but I'd be so happy to know that I would in fact get to have Kaidan back in ME3.

Exactly, the ME2 shippers can get their extra romance, and us ME1 shippers (and those who are mixed between the two) get to go crazy with news that we aren't waiting around for another crappy cameo.
