Awakenings = DBGT?
Don't bother getting this? Is that what it means?
If so, then I do advise skipping it. If people though ME2 was bad... oi, can't imagine their rooms after this.

Dragonball GT.
The anime company for DBZ wanted to continue the story while the artist said the story was over. They made it anyway without the original creator's permission.
The conclusion I was drawing was that many fans didn't consider it as canon and when it's mentioned, the general response is

I'm going to go get some dinner, try not to cry over the stupid ending I just got, and then maybe go shoot Geth in the face while staring at Lt. Alenko's backside.

Yeah I really missed not having him in my party - they tried to make Anders into another Alistair. and it may be just me but there were a few random characters that looked like him - one in particular but with dark hair. either the designers got lazy or Maric really got around

*hugs* Sounds like it's definitely time for Kaiden pics.
Haven't finished DA:A yet but I'm beginning to dread the ending. *Sigh* I just don't understand why Bioware is so resistant to the idea of a happy ending. It's like somehow they're all channeling Chris Avellone and conveniently ignoring the fact that Obsidian Entertainment makes very crappy and incomplete games (although I do have a soft spot for KoTOR2) not the least because they seem to think games should be angsty, dark and end ambiguously or unhappily. *grumble grumble*

The same thing has happened with the EU in Star Wars too. The Legacy of the Force saga effectively split the fanbase and many, many long time fans no longer recognise the canonicity of much of the EU because of it.

Haven't gotten far in DA:A yet, but I certainly can't recall any recent BioWare games where you're stiff-armed into tragedy. Care to be more specific?

That's why I love the Star Wars Legacy comics. They're set far enough in the future that they can pretty much ignore a lot of the EU AND the prequels. Plus, I have a son named Cade, so Cade Skywalker is okay in my book.
The KOTOR comics also have that in spades.

In a game based off CHOICE, they need happy endings, bittersweet endings, horrible endings... there is no excuse to have any end, story or character based, be only one theme. It is why I hate Viconia's romance and why I most likely will hate what they do with Morrigan. Too many writers are trapped in that horrible mindset that contrived tragedy makes a story great. It doesn't... it just makes it tragically contrived.

Well in DA:O if you are a female and your LI is Alistair either:
1) Your warden dies
2) Your LI Alistair dies
3) Your LI Alistair becomes a drunk and leaves you b/c you chose to not kill Loghain
4) You force your LI Alistair to sleep with the woman he despises in order to produce BW's version of Rosemary's Baby
Not exactly happy endings

Icouldn't agree more. That's what has been one of the larger problems
with Obsidian's games. They seem to think tragedy = great story. NWN2 -
rocks crashing down and killing your entire party....no thanks!

So there's no entirely happy ending for one of the four possible romance options? I can live with that. Plus the results of #4 are so ambiguous at this point that I don't think it qualifies for "tragedy." Especially if the PC is male and can take the bullet for Al.

Well I'm off - I feel the need for some Alistair & Kaidan love so I'm going to go & replay DAO & ME again to wipe the ending dialogue box of awakenings from my mind.

As for option #4, they basically used ROCKS FALL, EVERYONE DIES to negate it in Awakening. If your LI is Morrigan, there are even fewer choices, and none of them include staying with the woman you love. Zevran and Leliana can have happy endings, but be prepared to have whatever happiness you may think you have with them crushed in the next expansion or DA2. Happiness isn't edgy or cool or emotionally engaging, according to Bioware.
