I posted in your thread, but I'm not sure what else I could say that you didn't say. Everything that you listed worries the bejeesus out of me :(

Personally I wouldn't worry too much, since it's not a compendium of "signs point to X" as much as a compendium of "these are the worst decisions people on the forums have come up with."

I just want to add that the BW slide ending is really the only thing that truly annoyed me overall about the story in Awakenings. I didn't hate the rest of the game up until my character's personal ending. I'm not saying your ending will be better, but I don't want to be killing the desire of people who own the game from playing.

Actually I just keep hearing dismay from people on this and other threads.  So while I'll probably keep playing, I'm just longing for a little happiness in my endings right now. And considering that in most my various DA:O games my epilogue was some variation of "Warden and Alistair stayed together" either as King and Queen or going off toghether to reestablish the GWs. I'm going to be rather upset if the ending slide is as seems to be indicated - i.e., GW Commander leaves to never be seen again (or turns up somewhere else in a new story with a new LI)

I'm still optimistic, since Mass Effect 1 had a pretty upbeat ending, and they've always planned this game as a trilogy, so a "dark" second act isn't as worrying. Dragon Age was advertised as "dark fantasy", so I guess the endings are to be expected there. I really want to believe that Shepard is going to defeat the Reapers in the last game and ride off into the sunset with his or her love interest. The only thing that concerns me is the thought that ME1 love interests won't be squadmates...that would be lame, but I'll stay hopeful until I'm told otherwise.

as far as I'm concerned, it's confirmed that they'll be squad mates. They're going to have large roles in ME3 according to Bioware - the ME1 love interests - and they are the only squad mates that cannot die - yes you choose between Ash or Kaidan but one of them has to live.

On the subject of Dragon Age, and important thing to note is how moddable Dragon Age is, even to the point where Bioware encourages people to mod and use the toolset. I even saw David Gaider discussing with Alistair fans the plausibility of a mod that retains character integrity where Alistair is told by Riordin that a grey warden has to die defeating the Arch Demon, and accepts Loghain as a grey warden to do just that.

But Mass Effect it's moddable, you're stuck with whatever the developers give you except for trivial stuff like retexturing.

That would be interesting; do you have a source for that?  Although it does present a logistical concern over mentioning that in a room full of powerful people.

I can't find the specific post. The group is:
http://community.liv..._is_bad/profile
I'd suggest registering on that group if you really want to find it.
The thread is probably somewhere around November or December 2009.

I can try to answer any questions you have. For the most part Gaider considered Alistair letting Loghain sacrifice himself a possibility - considering that the only thing that would have to change is Riordan deciding to tell the Wardens about the sacrifice before the trial.

Also something about not spending so much time fondling on the battlefield? That is sound advice, my friends.

OK, in the interest of fairness, I just want to say that BW did a lot of things RIGHT with ME2. We all know where they failed, but there were a lot of things I really liked about that game.

1. Improved combat system. Head and shoulders above ME1. I almost never used biotics or my tech powers in ME1 because they took so darned long to recharge, the battle was practically over by the time I could use them again. I'm actually enjoying my Adept playthrough, something I couldn't have imagined in ME1. Then again, I liked Gears of War, and this cover system seems to have been lifted wholesale from it.

2. More interesting side characters. The asari bartender is worth a DLC all by herself, enjoyed seeing Gianna again, liked new ones like Kal'Reegar and even minor ones like Seryna were interesting. Yes, I miss my old ones, but that didn't make the new ones worthless or uninteresting. Maybe not as LIs but it was good to have things fleshed out a bit.

3. Reunion with Wrex. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Always loved him and never let him die in any of my playthroughs. And he has excellent reasons for not coming with you: helping his people, something my paragon Shep encouraged him to do in ME1.

4. More interesting hub worlds, like Illium & Tuchanka. A lot of replay value for me is in whether or not I like spending time in a particular "universe". If it's engaging, I don't mind doodling around doing minor side quests; if it's sterile or depressing, I stay away, like the Citadel in ME2. But I like Illium, it's beautifully realized and works for me as a futuristic "Hong Kong" type of place. Tuchanka's a mess, but what else would it be? Lots of good interaction there.

Just to say, I don't think anyone (except Joss Whedon) actually sets out to p**s off the fans or make a bad game, but sometimes people lose perspective. Just because they see these main characters every day and deal with their stories doesn't mean we do, and what might seem perfectly sufficient to them is not nearly enough for those of us waiting years for a story resolution. If you think about it, by the time ME3 comes out (2011, according to IGN), most of us will have been waiting nearly five years for a conclusion. I don't think they'll string it out that long to deliver a ROCKS FALL, EVERYONE DIES ending, unless they plan on going into hiding shortly thereafter.

Yes, but there were more writers than just him. I'm curious as to who wrote the Kaidan romance specifically ^_^

And did someone say battlefield fondling?

I agree. There were some good things with ME2. You perfectly summed up the things that I absolutely loved in the game.
I'll disagree on combat though. While I agree that the shooting system needed to be improved, I think it
was silly that I knew I'd be fighting if I saw
waist high objects. Then again, I'm decidedly not a shooter person, much less a GOW person. :pinched:

Now if they could just bring the old health bars back, that would be awesome. I find it funny when I ask myself, "What is that on Shepard's ass?" only to realize that it's just my squadmate's faces.:P

Ok, good point.  I am the world's worst shooter-player, and I can actually kill things with my gun in ME2.   And still have fun playing with powers like I did in the first one.  Though Fort's got a point... ooh look, waist high walls and crates!  Did I put the right ammo power on?

2. More interesting side characters. The asari bartender is worth a DLC all by herself, enjoyed seeing Gianna again, liked new ones like Kal'Reegar and even minor ones like Seryna were interesting. And Veetor!  Actually, I enjoyed all the characters in the Admiralty board... all in all, I am very pro-Quarian.  As characters.  They were fun.

3. Reunion with Wrex. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Always loved him and never let him die in any of my playthroughs. And he has excellent reasons for not coming with you: helping his people, something my paragon Shep encouraged him to do in ME1.

His was the only cameo that didn't make me want to smack the disc to make more content fall out.  Yes, I would've loved more Wrex, actually in my squad and making tough-Krogan comments all the time, but his story made sense.  And he got to tell off the other Krogan about how awesome my Shep was! :wizard:

True, no one plans to make a craptastic game.  (Or book, or movie, or story in general...)  It happens though... :crying:  And the reason I was so excited to play ME2 was the concept of a direct sequel, which would provide character development from the first game, and... I got none of that.  :(  Which means ME3 needs to give me two games worth!  :P

Quick question...I know as a male Shep when you listen to the Citadel advertisement it comments on the next time you're out on the town with Tali or Jack or whomever...but if you're a female Shepard loyal to Kaidan do you get that ad and does it reference him? Or does it only mention those in your party?

According to the Romance wiki:

Trivia In Mass Effect 2, the holo-projector on level 28 of Zakera Ward features an ad for Serrice Council's Sophist line of biotic amps. When viewed with a potential love interest present, it will mention him or her by name (i.e. "The next time you're out on the town with [so-and-so]…"). Specifically, they are referred to as: Mr. Taylor, Officer Vakarian, Sere Krios, Miss Lawson, Miss Zorah, and "Citizen ID file not found" (Jack). Interestingly, "Justicar Samara" is also acknowledged despite the fact she is not a full-fledged romance option. If Morinth is brought along, she will be treated as Samara.

No mention of Kaidan, lame :(

Eh ... I listened to that advert pretty early in the game before I even had the chance to possibly start a romance with an ME2 squad member (I wasn't going to anyway). The only squad members I had were Miranda and Jacob. It still said "When you're out on the town with Mr. Taylor." I was like wtf?

I shall have to try it again later to see if it changes.
