Now I'm okay with it, and the Kaidan message is the only one I leave unread in all my playthroughs.
Kaidan peeks at your mailbox (usually when you read mail, it's automaticaly "marked as read").
K: Um... You didn't read the message?
Sh: Huh? What me-AH THAT message! I did!
K: I can see you didn't...
Sh: I did! I just marked it "unread" so I could always find it...
K: You could press this star-shaped thingy for that...
(lectures Shepard how to use a gee-mail)
K: So... did you really read it?

Shepard literally saves Tali and Garrus from dying (return favor, etc), and both of them don't really have any attachments. Whereas Kaidan is still in the Alliance and has just learned that you were alive. I think it's important to consider that Bioware wanted them to have a justification not to join Shepard. I'm fairly certain the romance will continue and mend in ME3.
Yea i mostly see it as a plot device to keep them safe for me3. It also opens up for you to date the other Li's in a smooth way.

That's true as well; I seem to recall someone at BioWare saying that they were hoping to present a bit of a dilemma between staying faithful and going for what they saw as some rather compelling (and obviously much more… present) ME2 LIs. Obviously they were only playing as DudeSheps.

I always picture my Shep in ME2 without Kaidan trying to do all those hacking and other tech things herself (especially since you do some by yourself at the beginning of the game regardless if you have a tech person on your team).
I like how in ME2 there's less of Shepard randomly switching to pistols or assault rifles in cutscenes. It's still there, but in a lesser way.AkodoRyu wrote...

Did you noticed that in ME2 Shepard's using her(his) omni-tool more willingly? I was like "wow, girl, you finally figured out how this thing works?" Because in ME1 it is always your squadmate doing the hacking/information gathering/you name it..

I know when maleshep meets Ashley on Horizon Kelly asks about the relationship,
Does she say anything different to femshep for Kaidan?

Actually, I haven't played my maleShep from ME1 yet... do the male romances not require horrible-psuedo-pick-up-lines to get them started like the femShep romances do? Cause I can see how Miranda/Jack/Tali could each actually present an interesting romance. (Though, the Tali one always makes me think poor Shep must have been worrying about "going to the special hell" for bad captains who take advantage of innocent young ladies... especially if you play that he was attracted to her in ME1.)

There are no horrible pick up lines in the Tali romance. You can tease her a little bit (asking her if she's blushing under the mask) but the romance begins with Shepard saying that he feels the same way about Tali. As for Jack, I don't think the paragon romance involves any cheesy pick up lines, but more of a "I care about you." Miranda, don't know, didn't do it.

I could see her cussing and shocking herself as she tries to get things sorted, and if Kaidan were there, befuddled as why she is doing things the hard way.
It has to do with what slot they are in. For example, whoever is in the first slot when dealing with the Rachni expresses that the Rachni Queen could be dangerous, whoever is in the second slot says that killing the Rachni Queen might be a bad idea. There are a few exceptions, including Paragon or Renegade Kaidan/Ashley, maybe Garrus as well. ME2 doesn't seem to suffer some the slot dialogue thing as much.Annakie wrote...
Also, as much as I like Garrus and Tali, I almost never bring them along in ME1 because there are a bunch of Tech-oriented lines in various places that Kaidan will say if he's the only tech specialist on the team. Garrus or Tali will say them instead (or maybe there's like a 50/50 chance, I don't know) if they're along, also.

Haha I do that, too! I always imagine my Vanguard Shep mashing at buttons in the first Cerebus base going "Okay, what the heck would Kaidan be doing? He told me once about how to hack things... what happened to that circle jumping thing he showed me before? I don't understand, wait am I trying to connect dots here?"

Haha. Yes, the presidium tracking quest and the MSV cornucopia quest.
Kaidan can do Tali and Garrus' jobs just fine. He can also do Liara's job

He is quite a good squaddie then.
My next ME1 run will have him by me all the time now. Is he trained for assult rifles though or just pistols?
