On the topic of bf i think Ashley would fit that role great, both being strong females. My personal favorite must be Wrex though (closely followed by Garrus). Wrex is such a great character and he has some great lines in ME1 that just makes you love him (especially the elevator ones).

After that comics I will never look at the Thane the same way again:P.
I think Garrus is a good friend of Shep and may be Jacob but only for the drinks suggestion.

And again after some reading, I'm glad my LI is human, and I don't have to guess those sometimes insane and ridiculous things about him and wait for BW to confirm how he looks naked (just an example). I mean, yeah, fantasy is good, but...

I don't know, but they are hilarious sometimes. And they know the boundaries of "making things up".
The only, well - obvious, but still weird thing is that there's more than one "Shepard". It reminds me when of my bf saying "Hey, an MMO in this universe would be cool. Everyone talking like:
- Shepard
- Shepard
- Shepard? I'm Shepard, and this is my friend Shepard"

About your best bud on the Normandy, during ME1, my Shep was good friends with Ash, but she never really opened up about personal stuff with her. Kaidan was the only one who got around those barriers, but of the others, Ash got the closest.
Since coming back in ME2 though, my Shep got really withdrawn from people as she tried to sort out the chaos of her life. Oddly enough, Miranda is the one that she is able to speak most openly with. They turn out to be good friends, but my Shep does have a few deep seated issues with Miri that extend beyond Cerberus.

In my current ME1 playthrough it's all about Ash and Kaidan, I just love having them both in my squad. After Virmire, it's most likely Garrus who takes Ash's place again. Despite having Ash and Garrus as great friends, it's Kaidan my Shepard really talks to.
In ME2 that role is covered by the fish
Yeah, I miss Kaidan.

Someone could explain me why people still misspell Kaidan's name? I'm visual, and it's quite easy for me to remember correct spelling, but I can't believe someone who seen his name written hundreds of times in the game and still spells it "Kaiden".

For some reason it appeared in the media as Kaiden despite it being Kaidan ingame. Maybe Kaiden with an e is more common? Dunno.
To me it's nowhere near as annoying as people typing rouge instead of rogue though

Because it sounds like Kay-den - still, us fans shouldn't have an excuse

I read some othe thread where people complained about Shepard not showing any emotions regarding what she/he been through and that there were zero character development in ME2. In ME1 you have Shepard becoming a spectre and trying to fill those shoes and later he/she collapses at the grounding. You actually get the sense that she's struggling with herself.
I feel Shepard is in such a strange situation in ME2. She's been dead for two years and I would expect her to somewhat react to that other then a surprised expression in the shuttle on the way to TIM. Being a paragon I would guess doing the missions for TIM (and continuously being screwed over by him) would make her feel quite alienated. I would also imagine her being more withdrawed doing what she has to for the greater good.

I can see where people are complaining. ME2 does lack some of the subtleties of ME1 in that respect. I think that's why the ME1 LI still have a large following. It was that LI that helped Shep during that struggling phase at the lockers.
Not really any kind of scene in ME2 to relate to this. Sure, you can go to Afterlife or Dark Star and get really drunk, or shoot Conrad in the foot, but nothing truly subtle to show how Shep is struggling with this.

What you don't find sleeping around and getting drunk subtle?
But agreed, I miss a lot of emotion in ME2 where Shepard is concerned. And oddly enough, the most emotional scenes for me were with Kaidan or his picture. Funny how that works huh?

On the misspellings: I think people do Shepherd because that's the way it's spelled when one is a herder XD. As far as Kaidan, apparently Kaiden is an Arabic name. Kaidan was spelled with an -en in some media releases (probably started as a typo from someone that heard of someone named Kaiden). Ironically, this is where the argument that he's Middle Eastern comes from.
On ME1 vs ME2: This thread has some interesting discussion on the squadmates and Shepard if anyone is interested. The Ashley, Kaidan, and Liara Fans Unite Here group came out of hiding to swarm the thread lol

I never got why some people were so adamant about hating on the ME1 squadmates, even before ME2 came out. So if Bioware comes up with an entirely new squad again in ME3, are they going to disavow the ME2 characters, and claim the new guys are way better? Why were these people even fans of the first game if they hated half the squad?

http://twitter.com/#...fect-characters is a good list of characters to follow. Christina Norman mentioned us last week and things have picked up since then. Apparently, when it started, it was just Kaidan and a dudeshep who never talked.
Since I saw there was a Kaidan, but no FemShep, I joined, quickly got sucked into it all, then asked for an Ash in the Ash thread, and it's really taken off since then! @AmbassadorUdina and @HARBINGERREAPER are absolutely priceless. Most of the characters have formspring too! Ask your questions! Poor Kaidan's gotten a few rather personal ones that I suspect were asked by someone from this thread...
ETA: We even have our own Conrad Verner type stalker. Although he's just irritating, not funny. Some people...Ugh.
