...and both the Alliance/Cerberus ask for her help.  This scenario would allow her to select teammates from both ME1/ME2 groups of colleagues and interact with both the Alliance and Cerberus but not take orders from either. Her missions are then her choice and she focuses on what she feels is important (as she usually does anyway!) At the same time, she can't accomplish the overall mission (Reaper elimination) alone so she would need to find ways to cooperate with both groups which would be a difficult balancing act. And of course all the various groups (Council/Cerberus/Alliance) wouldn't quite trust her motives so they also encourage her former teammates to join up with her/watch over her which creates interesting possibilities for tension and interaction.

This.  I like this a lot!
Bioware, pay attention!

Really, that is awesome enough I don't have much to add, besides the fact that the 'getting ME1 characters back' needs to be the first freakin' mission.  I really think it's almost an imperative, with the varied backgrounds and possible allies built up in the first two games, that Shepard in the third game finds a way to be independent.

I found this enjoyable fanfic last night.

I normally don't read stuff labeled Shepard / Garrus beside's Sia's writing, but this is a friendship piece not a romance piece and it touches upon Shenko at the end. The name is misleading, it’s not actually a fic about Horizon beyond a brief mention of the meeting there.

http://www.fanfictio...ond_the_Horizon

I would have loved for something like this to be in M2.

That was adorable!

(And I'm honored I'm the only Shep/Garrus writer you read, Shenzi.  )

You're the only one I continue reading too.  For some reason, most of them feel the need to turn Kaidan into some angsty and/or whiny obnoxious character, rather than just a non-romantic one.  Which doesn't fit him, so thus regardless of how awesome their Garrus may or may not be, I can't keep going.

That how most fan fiction works =. For exmaple  I read Naruto fan fiction from time to time.  If I read a LEE/Sakura fiction which I rarely do they turn Lee in to Naruto, or Sasuke in to Naruto to make the character work  They then turn the person that is a rival to Sakura's love in to a character I barely can stand then throw him together with Hinata..  To me Kaidan, isn't  whiny at all, nor is he a Obnoxious character. I hate people that turn the characters upside down like that .   I tend to do a what the frak moment. Battle star Galatia Ref. ......... :o

Well, I can't see Meghan falling for someone whiny or angsty, she's one TOUGH woman.  And she did love Kaidan so he's an honorable, likable, strong man in his own right.  It's just that kind of thing where ... it wasn't their time.  And the fault does rest on both of them for the relationship's failure.  After all, they're adults.  I had to ask myself, if the galaxy wasn't on the line and they weren't a battle couple, would they have worked out?

The answer was "no."  She made him her moral compass instead of finding her own.  And hers is definitely of the grey variety, something I don't think Kaidan would approve of.  She took his words about Vyrnnus and cutting corners to heart, but is only just finding her way through how to implement it herself.

Just because she moves on, doesn't mean Kaidan's the villain or the jerk or the whimp.  It means it didn't work.  I see no reason to bash Kaidan for Meghan's decisions.

(And no, Meghan's not me and neither is Avery -- about whom I've yet to write.)

It bothers me too. I'm a NaruSaku fan myself, but I do like to see other parings to see how they might turn out. I just stick to some people in fan fiction, but I tend to try to write my own things I haven't posted them yet.

Thank you!  I think a lot of fic writers get Shep wrong, too.  Not just Kaidan.  I mean, some of them seem like I'm reading a rehash of Twilight with Bella Shepard in command of the Normandy.  I mean, really?  Shepard is supposed to be uber competent and an indomitable leader and you have her running around barefoot or braless or getting drunk on a daily basis? I don't mind Smart Ass Shepard, there's a lot of reason to think she'd be sarcastic and funny in some instances, but sometimes, some of these Shepards make me want to go, "Did YOU PLAY the same friggin' game I did?"

I like this way of thinking about it...the reason I don't read other FemShep pairings anymore is because so many writers can't be this mature about it.  It's bad enough on this forum, when you see people saying they want the choice to KILL or hurt Ashley or Kaidan for not joining them on Horizon.  Really?  Posted Image  How do these people handle real life situations where people don't agree with them, or do things the way they'd like?

I think it's very realistic for a FemShep who is renegade -- or just is fed up with the Alliance -- to decide that things won't work with Kaidan.  I've had an ex who I cared for very much, but I couldn't see our worldviews and our ambitions for the future meshing at all.  Didn't mean I didn't care about the guy, but it did mean that we were better off apart.  So reading fanfiction that totally murders Kaidan's personality is infuriating.  There's no need to make him into a jerk or creep because the author likes another love interest more.

I may be a masochist but any examples of particularly bad Shepards?

In my own writing I try to keep Shepard the competent soldier and leader she is while showing her more human side.  Don't know how well I succeed.

Exactly, Shepard, whether Paragon or Renegade or somewhere in between, is a mission first sort of person.  I can that coming into conflict with Kaidan's or Ashley's Alliance first priorities.

One of the fics I'm having a problem with writing is that in telling Jack off, Meghan lets out too much of her personal history in an emotional diaherrea of the mouth situation.  I haven't been able to decide if it's too much, or not.  I may end up scrapping it or just have her relate it all to Tali or Garrus.

I know I totally went off base with Shepard in my fic, Comfort.  I hope it was apparent that she was just having a really bad day and that it wasn’t her usual behavior in that fic.

You make a good point here, TZ.    Even when you're with someone with whom you have a lot in common, disagreements arise and can result in discomfort and anxiety.   It takes a lot for people (not just couples) with different values and perspectives to be able to be comfortable with ambiguity and accept that the inability to see eye-to-eye doesn't mean that either person is necessarily wrong or bad.  And it's a lot easier to be with someone who has a different perspective than someone whose values are radically different from your own.  It isn't always in a couple's best interests to stay together and I'd like to think that both Kaidan and FemShep are maturing and caring enough to understand this.

Shepard being human in private is perfectly fine.  Worry about her best pal, and leaning on Kaidan is understandable.  It's when she's doing all that around EVERYONE else that's a problem.

Well, it's kinda unprofessional of me to bash other writers, amature or not, on a public forum. ;)  I have Favorited some of the better Sheps on my FF page, though.  I can PM you some blatant examples.

*Nods* I can respect that.

*Goes off to reread Insects and Avians for inspiration* God I loved that fic!
