As for people twisting characters towards being completely different than they really are, it's a sad sight to see.

Re: Shepards
It's tough to keep a balance of making Shepard human/normal yet keeping that commanderly aura. One rule that I try to keep is that not everyone should know Shepard's exact business, and maybe only one of the crew (the LI) knows the truth. Also, generally speaking, Shepard's personal crap shouldn't be thrown in with the mission. (EG: Shep is busy checking out ____ or worrying about ___ and almost gets shot)
I've read a few Shepards that treated the Normandy like highschool, and I've also read Shepards that you can't figure out. Sometimes I find myself asking, "But who is this person? Why are they in love? What do they feel about _____?"
Anyway, those are my thoughts.
And those are very valid thoughts. The only Shepard I can totally enjoy being unprofessional is your Parallax Shepard, Fort. She's hysterical to the point of parody and I love it.
Meghan kept her boundaries up with the crew, but was a mite less formal with the groud team and even less so with Kaidan.
I like to know about others' Shepards, but really... there are some things Shepard cannot do.
Lol. I think the next chapter of Parallax is going to give some people whiplash. She's like the Mrs. Potatohead Shepard... snapping on disguises to suit her mood.
Agreed about some Shepards crossing the lines... like sitting in their quarters all day crying??? I've seen that before.
About 2 years back, I took a creative writing class. One thing the prof told us is that writing is a series of lies. You can lie to people about anything, you just have to make it a convincing lie. I have fun seeing how much I can get away with in fanfic. Apparently, it's quite a bit
I actually have a degree in it. Which means I'm a very accomplished liar.
The problem with fanfic is that it IS for entertainment value only. While that's all well and good, I see no reason why you can't write it well and accurately and not turn Kaidan into a whiny wuss.

You're a creative writing major? Sweet
True indeed. Character integrity is the most important thing. A character like Shepard has more wiggle-room (practically an OC), but the environment and characters need to react properly to the OC. If I decide to have Faith Shepard running around naked, I wouldn't expect Ashley to be strangely attracted to her, nor would I expect Liara to be appalled or Kaidan/Garrus/even Joker to be like, "Heeeeeyyy dat asssss"

Yep. I'm uniquely qualified to ask, "Would you like fries with that?"
Character integrity is intrinsic to all writing, even if it's your original character. Same goes for world building. If you're going to have biotics, you have to tell people how and why throwing people around a room is a justifyable thing.

Haha! that was faaaantastic. I'll probably picture that everytime I start a new playthrough.
TY! that was my short dive into fanfic. i remember 1st playthrough of ME1, i thought, huh? this random dude that was at the controls at the beginning is the LI? poor kaiden didn't get much of an introduction. no fancy run in and shoot like ashley, no sniping baddies (in both MEs) like garrus. just - there. no wonder so many people overlook him! i did always wonder what their first meeting was like though - kaiden and shep, i mean.

wanted to share this adorable ashley pic I took with the kaidan thread
love this, btw. the entire ashley/kaiden romance is just awesome. want to see payoff in ME3 please! (translation, payoff means reunion, possible angst for a while, but must have big nookie scene!)

Yeah, but do we really such a grand entrance? And yes, we require a payoff, darnit!

I've had the same feeling too. Either it'll be us or itll be the Liara fans. One romance is going to end really poorly because they just have to inject tragedy into everything.

Well like fort said, because they'll just have to put in some big tragedy.
Making Ash/Kai or Liara the antagonist (which wouldn't work even from a purely unbiased standpoint IMO) or some other means to make sure we either see very little of them or they'll make us wish we saw very little.

After my ending I got in the last BW game installment, I've had a fairly pessismitic view of things to come, but I'm trying to let the positivenenss of the thread see me through.

We all think this way at one point, because there's so little to go on and it'll be a long time since we'll know more (unless the countdown is Kaidan related). I just like to remind myself about the Indiana Jones quote from Bioware, when I feel that way. It does work, though that little black cloud never fully leaves me. Not until we know more anyway.
Okay back to the madness that is today for me. Maybe till later.

I think the ultimate spit in the face they could do would have Ash/Kaidan be a side-agent that doesn't do much more than Anderson does in ME2, and having Liara become the new Shadow Broker once she takes down the real one.
I wonder if they're going to reduce those characters to simply "information npcs" with little dialogue.

Personally feel Anderson is more likely to betray us. He fits the Bioware standard betrayal model very well.
I'm not saying they'll betray us... I'm saying that there's a high likelihood that they'll not be squadmates again because **** happens like that

So far, they haven't said whether we'll even HAVE squad mates at all.

My feeling is they'll betray us, or be insignificant.
Or betray us and be insignificant.
