They did say they wanted to keep them alive, because they are impotent to the role of ME3. Here hoping they don't pull the betray us line for Ash/Kaidan that would be heart breaking for my Shepard.

If they do that, I will be done with Bioware forever. That isn't a threat, it's a promise. My interest will begin and end with ME1.

In fact, I'm going to wait to see if ME3 has satisfying roles before I consider buying it. <_<

Did Casey or someone not say in an interview something along the lines of, "if you want, you can continue that (ashley/kaidan) relationship in ME3."

I forgot what interview it was. Liam would know.

Maybe they'll make the ME2 squad the reapers of their tragedy/betrayal? That way, they get the tragedy/betrayal and we still get ME1 LI's with good happy beginnings/endings, etc. Just agree with me so I don't get all depressed thinking about other options that have been mentioned above ...

I'm still trying to comprehend how so many people take "we kept their role to a minimum because they're too important to ME3 to be squadmates" as "we kept their role to a minimum to ****** off our fanbase because we're an evil corporation and we're going to do the same thing in ME3 because we're an evil corporation."

I don't know if any of us are going that far in our thoughts, but "too important to ME3" is very vague and WAY open to interpretation.

Yes; Word of God states that we will be able to continue our ME1 romances; this was released very intentionally as a "sure you can do a ME2 romance, but someone may be rather unhappy with you down the line" drop.

Now, with cheating on them I could see them pulling the betray thing on us. Plus, I think that I will have a romance free play through of ME1, so I can get the my achievement back then might just have a romance with Kaidan in ME3 to see how it would play out. It would be fun to see how it would play out, if you didn't romance Kaidan in ME1.

It's in the Mass Effect 2 Best Buy chat transcript here.

I understand the whole "we're saving them for ME3" thing. But we don't know to what capacity they're being saved. Are they just keeping the "they'll be there for the trilogy" promise? Are they going to have "important roles" like Liara's "important" information giving role in ME2? Are Ash and Kaidan going to have almost the exact same lines again?

Yeaaah... need some Kaidans now.

My post went away god dammit. I'm here I'm typing again, what I said in the first place.

It would be cool too have a romance free ME1 play trough were you didn't romance anyone, but romance Kaidan in ME3 to see how it would play out. However, if they did play the betray us line I would think it would be out of jealousy of the new love interest type of thing.

Thought I'd add some positivity in here.  I whole-heartedly expect Kaidan/Ashley and Liara to be squadmates in ME3.  This seems to be what Casey has been implying whenever addressing the issue of our ME1 Li's treatment for ME2.  It was also stated this way in the OXM holiday article featuring Liara in her ravishing dress

Um, anyway, I know Casey has been off before with details, but the set-up on Horizon is such that there wil be some sort of a re-romance in ME3 if you choose to take your Shepard there.  These are my thoughts on the issue, so please don't give into pessimism, ladies!

Yes it's vague, but the majority of the doomsaying comes down to: the LI will die OR the LI will betray you.  Option 1 disregards that the character has had control over literally every character death in Mass Effect (and I think pretty much every game BioWare's made – aside from Yoshimo but everybody hated him anyways) and option 2 assumes that a) BioWare is willing to spite its fanbase for the sake of spiting them B) BioWare is willing to derail their characters just for the sake of spiting its fanbase and c) they don't really care what their fanbase thinks.  Trait "a" is just pointless, "b" is unlikely, and we have actual physical proof that "c" is untrue (given that Tali was never intended to be a romance option until the rabid fans pounced on her).  So really unless I'm missing something, the "evil corporation" or the "only cares about its next paycheck" (which is silly since making money ≠ pissing off your consumers) are really the only fallbacks.

I could almost do that with my original Shepard, since Kaidan and I were mostway through the "I'm interested but not right now" line when Virmire happened and I decided to do the more professional thing then proceded to go loveless through the rest of 1 and all of 2.  Obviously a Kaidan romance would be impossible with that file, but assuming the original 3 LIs would follow the same protocol for starting a romance in 3, it could probably be extraoplated.

After both Mass Effect and Dragon Age I guess we should just expect to have a different cast of characters to accompany the main character for the second game of all future Bioware series.

Yep, I’m bitter about it. Posted Image

No, Tali had been intended, they scrapped her because they didn't think anyone would like her 'chicken feet.'  Garrus was entirely out of left field as romanceable, however, so that is correct.  They are big on fanservice.  However, the Kaidan fanbase and the Ashley fanbase combined can't outnumber the Tali base.  (MAYBE if we united with the Liara fans...)  So yeah, we're kind of easy to ignore.

And who the hell listens to girl gamers?

Yes you're right; I shouldn't have said "never intended", I should have said "intended not to be."  As a communication studies major I should have caught that.

Still, your argument seems to rest on an "either us or them" mentality; it precludes the possiblity of neither fanbase being ignored.  Which, again, is a bit shakey.

Besides, who says that there are no Kaidan fanboys?  And we all know that the juggernaut bromance/gay lobby can flatten puny BioWare!

Agreed about some Shepards crossing the lines... like sitting in their quarters all day crying??? I've seen that before.

Do you hate having these scenes period, or just if it is overkill?

I just wrote a small scene a bit like this in my latest chapter and wouldn't mind some critique to fix it up a bit if necessary!  Though I don't plan on him moping about much more, I just figured the strain of being revived plus his backstory would overwhelm him at the time.

Anyway... think happy thoughts!  Kaidan will be in ME3!

It's possible that he is a Spectre and you will save him in the first few hours and he will finally realise he has been a bit thickheaded and gladly join in your crusade!

I'm no Cerberus stooge, even my renegades are loyal to the Alliance and remain Spectres.
TIM is so last week for me, so ME3 better acknowledge that! Me and Kaidan on an Alliance-painted Normandy, like the old days. Or else!

I would love to see Ash and Kaidan as Spectres. It seems to be a def. possiblilty, esp. since they are already working for Anderson.

I really hate the Normandy is high school fictions. I actually hate all high school fan fiction.

I'm not fond of h.s. fanfic either.  Posted Image   However, people tend to write based upon their own experiences/life focus/level of maturity, so it kinda tells one something about the writer.  When I read fic, I'm looking for stories that expand my understanding/experience of the characters.  One of the challenges of writing romance fanfic is that all too often the focus of the story moves from focusing on the relationship to getting the two characters into bed and writing a hawt scene.   I'm most interested and connected to fics that, while including lovescenes, don't get sidetracked from the relationship.  Hmmm....I notice that the fics I've bookmarked lately and keep reading are ones written by you guys!

Agreed. Too often I have read a fic where they have sex and then there's nothing. I want to know what the couple is like in love; I have to feel that it's going somewhere other than the inevitable 'unplanned baby' or 'and they lived happily ever after' thing. The mind-blowing love scene should be a product of the characters' love or built up emotion.

And the Mass Effect genre of fanfic is a completely different monster than anime-style fics. You've got two successful, career-oriented adults that you're writing about, not a teenaged girl that falls in love with a stoic yet sometimes jerky slightly older might-be teen or young adult. The difference should be stark.

And you've also got two adults who have had a number of life-shaping experiences that certainly would be reflected in how each person views life/self/other.  Often the fun in a relationship is being able to tolerate and tease about differences just as Shep could give Kaidan a hard time about his caution without being disrespectful of him and in turn he could be flexible (oh God, Garrus just cameto mind as I typed this!).

Btw, looking fwd to the next chapter of Parallex!

I do hope he is not a Specter that would ruining Shepard stats as the first human Specter. He is just a alliance marine to my Shepard he is her marine, and will hopefully stay that way.
