I always pictured him finding a quiet place where he could study or tinker on things without too much sound or interruptions. I kind of picture that's why he was "stationed" where he was on the Normandy. It's out of the way. It stays fairly dark and quiet (important for migraine sufferers) and with the exception of Shep, no real interruptions. Not that he minds Shep's visits.

I love the idea of him tinkering with stuff - I always forget that he's a tech nerd.
