A post I just made in the ME3 thread.

Agree? Disagree?

Agree completely with your points, and you hit on what makes me not as interested in ME2 as I was in the first game; the episodic nature of ME2 made it feel a lot less like your squadmates were all working together, most of the time it was all about whomever you were picking up/gaining loyalty for, and you were lucky if you'd get a few comments from anyone else.  With ME1, I felt like everyone had a personality and voice, even when I wasn't doing a mission directly related to them.

And good morning/afternoon, everyone!

The thing is, when I played ME1 I felt that everyone had a personality. Which I liked about the game characters. ME2 felt like it was written in a very short time with no story to boot. To me, what made ME1 great was the fact it was story driven instead of character driven. However, I liked both games. ME2 games felt like a very bad story which never had the option of going with the Alliance, or Cerberus. I think that would have been better for paragons to stick with the Alliance. Like Shepard said in ME1 The rules are their for a reason. To have something, that is above the law is dangerous to society, and I believe that people should have a chain of command.

Now I like character driven pieces, but I don't think ME2 was one. It was a character exploration, maybe, but the characters as presented didn't drive any plot or story. What you did with one character had almost no impact on any of the rest of them, minus, what, three arguments? (And some hilarious safe-sex dialogues from Mordin... ) If there'd been some character interaction so that the loyalty missions mattered in some way besides the probability of someone getting shot, then I could call it a successful character-driven game. As it is, ME2 almost felt more like a way to kill time between the actual plot in ME1 that will hopefully continue in ME3.

^ I tend to agree that ME2 was a way to kill time between the actual plot, since I didn't even get rejoin the Alliance which I love the Alliance in the game. I don't like working for terrorist.

Like I said in my post, I would like to kick whichever member or members of the dev team thought that was a good idea.  As for what Kaidan would do to said dev (or what I'd like him to do)...

Aim for the bullseye!

morning all

I personally prefer ME to ME2, it flowed better and even the N7 missions seemed to have something to do with the main plot. I also think that there were just too many squaddies in ME2, especially as you can only pick 2 at any given time

edit : Yay -belated 850 pages celebrationPosted Image.

Heh, I can imagine my FemShep splashing paint on every Cerberus symbol on the SR2. I'm with you.

Meetings suck.

I don't have the energy to debate the merits of ME1 over ME2. I liked both for different reasons.

You would have thought at some point Shep would pick up some casual wear for the Normandy that didn't have the Cerberus logo on it, maybe some jeans and a t-shirt.

@sesh: Morning! And yes, too many squaddies, so you can't really get invested in them. The question then becomes, however, which ones do we think were really worth it?

Plot-wise, I would say we'd need to keep Miranda, Mordin, and Legion, plus Jack, as she helped show Cerberus' evil side for those people who'd never played the first game. Tali and Garrus provide some nice continuity from ME, as well as some interesting contrast with the new teammates... and I can't think of any legitimate story reasons for anybody else. Any ideas?

I do enjoy ME2 but it feels a bit disjointed really, ME flowed better from a story telling perspective, imo. After playing a couple of ME2 playthroughs I went back to the beginning of ME and if anything enjoyed it more than I had done before, iykwim.

I have no problem with the new combat etc. but I want my skills and levelling up back (I miss the inventory too tbh) Plus, what's the deal with cash flow? I am working for one of the richest organisations in the galaxy and they can't can't spare a bit of cash for research? I have to fund it myself? WTF, did they use all their credits reviving me?

Its too early in the morning for me to think too deeply at the moment.  If I have the choice in ME3 my team will consist of Kaidan, Miranda, Legion, Mordin, Grunt, & Garrus (& possibly Jack).

although given that I only used Kaidan & Garrus as my squad in ME1 I could get by with just those 2Posted Image

That's the reason I wear this lab suit all of the times.

But you get to Tuchanka, and lots of genophage background, with Mordin.  Gameplay wise, though, it is nice to have a Krogan on my squad, and I enjoyed his backstory and loyalty quest.  Kill the Thresher Maw!  On foot!  And then kill the stupid Krogan who thinks you'll be easy to take down?!?  ;)

I saw this said in another thread and I thought it was very true.

In ME2, there is no rising action, no buildup to the finale. That's why some people don't feel connected to the plot; it doesn't follow a basic plot setup.

Very true.  And there's little player agency in advancing it either... you have to wait for TIM to show up and tell you if you can go onto your nex t step or not.

In ME3 there will be lots of rising action and buildup with Kaidan...and I intend to help him with that.

I would pick Kaiden (obviously) Liara, Wrex, Garrus, Mordin, Thane and Legion. Controversially, I am not bothered about Tali I don't dislike her, but don't think she is amazing, now Kal Reeger.............. There's a Quarian I could get on board with! If I had one more spot it would be Samara.
