Shepard is definitely one to force things to go her way. Except for Virmire. And Cerberus. But still. That's not a bad record.

And they'll have the almighty power of Kaidan, of course.

That's what I'm really afraid of.  Though... if they use the geth to do it, it won't be quite as unbelievable as a Mac laptop.

The unbeatable alien technology, completely compatible with your average laptop. And their super high-tech fighter plane, easy to use after a five minutes tutorial

I (want to) believe that we will have a heroic, maybe hard to achieve (no heartbreaking sacrifices), but still very happy ending.
Mass Effect just 'asks' for that kind of ending. Look how ME1 ended - heroic Commander Shepard with some planet in the background, ME2 - Shepard looking hopefully into the stars.
You'll see we will get something similar, hopefully this time with Kaidan at our site....<3

I love ID4 for all it's cheesiness and Jeff Goldblum in a flight suit, but wow....

I don't remember the film. But as you describe it, something similar may actually happen in ME.
And we need to remember that in this case 'our' technology is quite compatible with reaper technology.
