Kaidan Alenko Support Thread Part 2

What if in ME3, you are offered (regardless of your Collector base decision) a position back in the Alliance at Captain, but you are told that Alenko would only be allowed to join your team if you agreed to officially end any personal involvement. What would your Shepard do?

Go freelance Spectre. I think it actually makes more sense with the escalation of the mission to not be tied so closely to strictly human politics and interests. Gonna take more than the Alliance to fight the Reapers, after all. (And even if Shepard would be willing to lie about her relationship with Alenko to get him back on her squad, I don't think he'd be comfortable with it, so it wouldn't be worth it.)

First off, good morning !
As much as my FemShep would like to go back into the Alliance, her first priority is saving the galaxy and she understands pretty clearly that being aligned with any organization means she's under someone else's direction at least to some extent. I think she'd be most likely to remain a Spectre and be as independent as possible. I don't see her giving the Normandy back (especially since in my games, she did blow up the Collector base). Given her skills at influencing/persuasion, I can see her convincing the Alliance that it would be in their best interests to keep her as an independent ally. Hopefully she's proven that she is their ally through her actions in ME2 (mine sent data to the Alliance for example). I think her relationship with Kaidan is important enough to her that she won't give the relationship up easily.

For my Shep, she would be conflicted. Her Alliance career has always been very important to her, but after everything she's been through, she would be willing to (as Jilly said) refuse the reinstatement and just go about being a freelance Spectre. She would also be just as reluctant to lie about the relationship as Kaidan, so that would not be an option for her.
Well, my primary version of Shepard wouldn't lie about it either, but there is one who is much more renegade/expedient and is very good at just telling people what they want to hear. She comes across as rather schizo in game, as she appears to contradict herself all the time, but it's all in the interests of keeping everyone else out of her way, so she can do what needs to be done.
(She told Anoleis about the smuggling hanar, and bypassed Lorik and Giana completely. Much faster that way. *snorts*)

If I have time after I finish my lab report for tomorrow, I may make a motivational poster based on this.
Yaaaayyy!
Kaidan is very cute sitting in the co-pilot's chair at the beginning of ME1. I have a cap of his "I can't possibly imagine why" moment (subtitled with the actual text) on my computer at home, which I can post tonight if anyone's interested in using that for something.
At the end of the Scenic View moment, Ash does say "I'll walk drag, ma'am"...after her comment about Kaidan not taking much shore leave. She's a clever girl, she knows what's up.
My FemShep would refuse reinstatement and go free lance as a Spectre if that was an option, or otherwise reluctantly accept the deal and run into Kaidan's arms as soon as they finish blowing up the last Reaper. That was a great question!

Seeing a screenshot in a magazine, of Kaidan sitting next to Joker, along with a subtitle mentioning that he was FemShep's love interest, was what convinced me to buy the game. I wasn't interested in a console port that didn't look RPG-ish enough for my tastes, and I had had no idea you could play as a female Shepard before that. So I was like "I can play a lady and he's my romance option??? SOLD!"

You know, I come across comments like this alot, from people who were only belatedly interested in ME because they had no idea that you could actually chose/design your own Shepard, particularly the gender, based on whatever they'd heard about the game originally.

That, along with the fact that I wasn't that interested in space-games, was the reason why I didn't pick up Mass Effect until last summer, and that after seeing the teasers that was released during E3.
As for my Shepard, she'd most likely go freelancer as well.

Then again I enjoyed most of the pictures posted... especially the 'regulation' and working late ones. Thanks for the sharing! Which reminds me - do we have a new sekrid pic?
As for the plot idea in ME3:
My Shep did her best to convince the Alliance and the Council to listen to her warnings. She did nearly everything they asked of her and never complained. However the constant mistrust of the Council and their bickering and the fact that the Alliance didn't do all that much to support her (besides Anderson) she is fed up with it. She never trusted Cerberus but also lost a lot of faith in the Alliance. She'd be the one that would say basically tell her crew that they would no longer be working for Cerberus and that anyone who disagreed could leave now. EDI would be checked, all surveillance from TIM would disabled/smashed/burnt, the symbol would be deleted and that communication knot would be... changed.(Sorry for the details.)
She'd take her life in her own hands - sending TIM a 'Thanks'-Card for the New Normandy, shaking Anderson's hand and leaving a way to reach her, and leaving a collection of information of the missions and a copy of that massive amount of Cerberus Info on Kaidan's desk. He'd find a way to find her and if she would have to help out... and now I just shut up because I just try to make up being gone for a day within one post *bangs head on table and searches for coffee*

Jacob does mention another option, the Corsairs. Alliance linked, barely funded, but "officially unofficial."

@Sialater: Well, Jacob mentions it but wasn't happy with the results. And Jack's idea... hmm my Paragon Shep would have a certain problem with the death ratio that Jack would probably leave behind.
I'd go with freelancing, as well as more or less private diplomatic missions so that there would be a huge alliance of different species and friends behind Shep - including the Racchni (if you let them live and if I spelled it right -.-)
And I'd leave the Cerberus Info with Kaidan (one of the side missions) so he would finally get it into his head that I was never trusting or really siding with Cerberus and that I would throw TIM as far as I could - once I found him. My Shep understood that he was angry and all but she has a hard time forgiving him for calling her a traitor more or less (it's a little blemish on the shiny huge love she has for him).
It really annoyed me that going to Councilor Anderson as soon as I could and asking after Kaidan and going to him again after Horizon and after the Suicide Mission didn't change anything - just as sending that stupid info the Alliance. Argh... have... to... stop.... *sits on hands*

For crying out loud, we could tell Tali that we didn't trust Cerb and Garrus that we were happy that he would watch our back, knowing that TIM would try to screw us over but being unable to tell neither to the one man my Shep loved? Urgh...
And the small change in Anderson's responses... yeah I noticed them and clenched my fist. Way too little change and further options.
I wanted to be able to tell him to call in Kaidan or at least find out where he was so I could send my Shep after him but noooo... *sobs*

Jacob didn't like the red tape. As a Spectre, less red tape. Jack can be reigned in.
But yes, freelancing is probably best, though it would still resemble being a Corsair.

The way I see it, it wouldn't have mattered. Both the Virmire Survivors had had reports, after all, prior to ever meeting you on Horizon. Their minds were made up. The hug was probably the oddest thing there, not the shouting.

I'd never blame Kaidan/Ash for being upset or angry - I do understand that. I also understand the hug - for me that doesn't seem so odd - even the combination or yelling and hugging.
And the reports that they had heard were-- I think rumors at best. What just really got to me was that there was never a chance or choice to actually prove, that while TIM used Shepard for his own cause, Shepard did her own thing anyway.
I just hate TIM and I hope I'll get a chance to shove Shepard fist in his face in ME3 - preferably while Kaidan watches...
I'm having such an odd day...

Mia would turn it down and work directly for the Council as a Spectre. In fact, this "what if" question relates to the fic I'm still working on.

The desire for violence against TIM is never odd.
And yes, in the fic I wrote re-doing Horizon a bit, they were still supposed to be crazy mad at each other, despite the almost reconciliation I gave them. (I don't think that came across very well, but.. *shrugs* try again next time.) I mean, Kaidan's mad she's working for Cerberus, and didn't contact him, and all the 'back-from-the-dead-angst', and Shepard's mad that he didn't trust her, or offer to help watch her back against Cerberus, or anything.
Which is just a long-winded and shamelessly self-promoting way of saying that I totally understood the combination of hug and furious yelling as well.
