Yeah, but for some reason, certain guys just don't GET that women can have different criteria for what they find "cool" or interesting in a character.  If you look at the first few pages of the original Kaidan Appreciation Thread, there were a few guys in there telling everyone how much he sucks, and when people were defending their opinion, they were getting in their faces.  One guy was even comparing Kaidan to Tali.   Even now, with this thread being as large as it is, guys will try to pull the "nobody likes Kaidan" line, like they did back on the old forum.  It can get overbearing sometimes, that kind of stubborn blindness.

But I'm really glad we have this thread, it's great to know that the Kaidan fans aren't getting chased away by the haters.  :wizard:

Honestly i think this idea that women only like certain things while men have wide and varying tastes is holding back gender relations. On the matter of bashers, once in a while someone gets their dunce hat on and comes in the Ash thread and bashes her. Hell, half the first page is bashing.Posted Image

Haha, as someone who grew up playing video games, reading fantasy and sci-fi, and collecting comic books, I know all about people telling me what I "should" enjoy.  It's ridiculous when people try to pin you down in a category like that.  But the Kaidan haters on this forum seem to all have the idea that because they think he's a whiny Carth clone who does nothing but complain about headaches, we should all agree.  Of course, they're often the same ones who say they wish they could have killed both Kaidan *and* Ashley.  Obviously, these folks must be IRL rocket scientists.  <_<

I hear that.  I remember no matter how many times my parents suggeted things like ninja turltes and sporting equipment to my granparents, they insisted sending an unending torrent of barbie dolls and play cooking sets.  You kind of expect it from an older generation, but our contemporaries?  Seriously?

Me too, no one thinks my interests are normal.Posted Image
I try not to bash even the characters I don't like. Personally, I'm less than fond of Tali but I don't go in the fan thread and trumpet for all the world to see!
On the topic of character basher's intelligence:Yes, I think their a real bunch of Rhodes Scholars.Posted Image

Don't feel old.  I was a math major.  I took Calc I, II, II, Advance Calc I, Advanced Calc II, Matrix theory, Non-linear Dynamics...

Now, ask me how much of that I actually retained.

Ah, good point.  Thanks. :D  All that school stuff wanders out of the brain so easily...

Especially when  it's getting replaced by Jhosephine art.

My dad's on an epic quest to find a decent play kitchen for my son, that isn't either really cheap plastic or pink and sparkly.  He hasn't had much luck so far.  Even so, the five-year-old boy looks to be a better cook than I am.  [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/lol.png[/smilie]

My parents understand my slight tomboyishness. In fact, my mom encouraged me to not be a girly girl. So I guess I'm lucky.

Though my grandparents don't understand me at all. For some reason, they think I'm wild. Far from it actually lol.

Hmmm...I'm no expert on parenting but let's see here...

Mom wouldn't let me go cliff jumping with my friends...so when I grew up I went sky diving.
Mom wouldn't let me have a bee bee gun...so when I grew up I bought real ones and starting competing with them.
Mom didn't want me on the interstate when I learned to drive...so when I grew up I got a motorcycle.

Now, don't get me wrong.  I love my mommy and anyone who says otherwise is apt to get popped in the mouth, but parents should really just go ahead and embrace their kids personalities. It's going to surface eventually anyhow.

That's really cool.  It's nice to be able to be yourself.

And HUZZAH for more fanfic!  Man, Shenko used to DOMINATE ff.net.  Now we seem to be inundated with Tali and Thane fics.

@Fort/Shavon: you're welcome. glad I spotted 'em.

@chem: That's great parenting advice. Should print it out and stick it on my mirror as a reminder for when my kids get older.

LOL, yeah, and then there are the "dumping Kaidan after Horizon for Thane/Garrus" fics that are in the category, that annoy me.  Why not put it under Thane or Garrus instead of advertising it as a Shepard/Kaidan story.  Yech.

Haha...you may not want to take parenting advice from a woman who's only kids are her dogs and an orphan cat, but I'll take that as a compliment.

That does annoy me.  I happen to like the Thane and Garrus fics, but not at the expense of Kaidan.  Drives me nuts.  Also why i'll never write a ME2 li fic, there's just so friggen many!

As you should.  It's the kind of sensible thing it's easy to forget when you're all wrapped up in worrying about your kids.  And on that note, it's time for me to go too.  Night all.  Sweet-Kaidan-y dreams.  -_-<3
