I adore Garrus, he's one of my favorite characters but he's more like an brother to Shep then a LI as far as I'm concerned.

There's no doubt Shep and Garrus would be close friends in ME2, he's one of her only links to the past and he's willing to stay be her side regardless of who Shep is working for.

QFT! :D

I concur

I like Garrus too, and I consider him my best buddy on the Normandy, but I don't agree with his Dirty Harry/Batman way of doing things.  I was kind of annoyed with him on Omega, there were definitely ways to fight criminals and clean the place up without indiscriminately killing every mercenary in his path, and their families too, which seemed extreme and out of line...but of course, ME2 is all about LIMITING your roleplaying choices, so there was no way to show my disapproval during the recruitment quest.  Only during his loyalty quest can you disagree with the way he does things, and even then, you can't call him out for the way he's been acting before that.  And just like the first game, I'm sure nudging him towards the "Paragon" path won't stick, so we'll have to do it all over again, if he's on the squad.  Bleh.

Good morning all. I'm up at 10:30 on the weekend. It's strange.

Re-Garrus: I didn't like Garrus too much, particularly in ME2. I'm very much of the viewpoint of, "Get your **** done and don't get fancy. Focus on the task at hand."

Sorry, I'm a bit ranty. This is an issue that has been driving me nuts for a while.

For me Garrus is great character (in a little brother sort of way) who is ruined by his fans.

I mean, I can barely stand the general ME LJ community these days because it is nothing but OMG GARRUS IS SO HOOOOT SQUEEEEEEEE! Yeah, we're the same about Kaidan, but we don't spam it everywhere.

It also doesn't help that there are so many Garrus fan-girls that go out of their way to bash Kaidan. That he is either a heartless jerk after Horizon, or some creepy stalker. Either way Shepard is made into some poor helpless princess who needs to be saved by her turian true-love. *gag*

This. The people that act like Kaidan was physically abusive on Horizon are over the top. I get it... Shepard is "upset" because your feelings got hurt. But, come on.

1. Kaidan did not abuse Shepard, not even verbally.
2. He didn't even curse at her.
3. "I trust you, but I don't trust Cerberus," should give people a hint. He cares about her. That's why he's upset.

But nope, suddenly Kaidan's damaged the relationship beyond repair and Shepard needs an instant rebound because her feelings got hurt. It's clearly Kaidan's fault for not trusting someone that he thought was dead for two years that has suddenly come back to work with terrorists. How the hell is someone going to calm down if their best friend/lover comes back randomly? I mean, come on. They're going to freak out. They aren't going to have a rational moment because the irrational has just happened to them.

The word "selfish" comes to mind. Some people don't even try to put themselves in the Virmire survivor's place.

/end rant

No no Fort.  You see everything should be EASY for Shepard.  She shouldn't have to deal with like...conflict...or emotion or the idea that anyone is upset with her.  That makes them stupid.  And a bad person.  How DARE anyone question the all powerful Shepard!  How dare anyone have an opinion that's not "OMG SHepard u r de awsmz all of da timez!!"  Pfft.  I know in real life when someone I care about is upset about something I just cut them out of my life completely because clearly they're idiots.

<_<

People pissed at the Virmire survivor on Horizon must have an ego the size of Canada.

I'll agree with you.  And Ryan in the motivational thread is the perfect example.  He said, "Reuniting with [Kaidan] on Horizon should be enough to make you understand [all the Kaidan hate]"  Apparently he never tried to put himself in Kaidan's shoes.  Frankly I fear for him if he ever gets into a real relationship... I might not have a whole lot of experience there but I'm pretty sure that you need to be able to see the other person's perspective or it'll fall apart on you at the first little argument or bump in the road.

I hope you guys don't let the fans of certain characters ruin them for you. I've been letting the Talimancers interfere with my love for Tali, but really, shouldn't. Like Garrus, she is a great character, with very enthusiastic fans.

Idk, Kaidan will always be my favorite 'canon' romance for FemShep, and it sucks that these girls bash Kaidan, esp. when they seem to have no reason for it. IF anything, they should blame BW for poor character execution.

Ok, so I'm gonna talk about Ash b/c, well, I always nuke kaidan so um yeah. Anyway,

I'll admit, I was pissed at Ash when I first had the Horizon encounter. Mainly b/c she was all, "why didn't you call me?" ... um, idk, probably because I was being rebuilt during that time. They wouldn't exactly let me pick up a phone. But the main thing is like you guys said, you have to think about it from the virmire survivor's point of view... they thought you were dead! and then you should back up working for people they hate and have fought before. I know I'd be dissappointed/shocked if that happened to me.

I don't, Shav. I dislike who I dislike because I dislike them, not because of their fanbases being nice or mean :)

I don't think he ever killed the families.  And I don't mind him taking things into his own hands.  Let's face it, < this kid watched too much Lethal Weapon growing up.  I REALLY DO mind that, like you said, apparently all that mentorship I gave him from ME1 went out the fraking window.   I figured he'd show up at CSEC or as a SPECTRE, depending on how you interacted with him.  I like his two year back story but...did he listen to a word you said?  Apparently not.

I don't know...  There were plenty of things I would have liked to be able to say to Kaidan on Horizon, I'm sure there plenty of things we would *all* have liked to be able to say to him, but those options just weren't there.  I guess FemShep was just in shock, or trying desperately *not* to get emotional and say something that she would regret later.
I do not blame Kaidan for reacting the way he did, that seemed real and honest enough.  After all, if femshep was in shock, I don't have a strong enough word for he must have been going through.
Even knowing about that scene, I went back and played ME1 again (wanted to do an infiltrator run through) and couldn't bring myself to not romance him.  I mean seriously, how can you resist?
As for disliking a character, the only one I've had an issue with is honestly Jacob... and I don't even think it's because of him, but because of the way femshep acts around him.  He'd have a lot less going against him without that.
On a completely unrelated note:  Anyone else having the forums "forget" who they are, every time they click a link?
(Ok, going back into lurker mode now.  I have this report to write, and for some reason the first paragraph is always the most difficult for me.  Just can't think how to start the ball rolling. :-\\  )

God Shepard was such a total fail on Horizon. S/he owes Ash/Kaidan an apology. Not the other way around.

That's just too...:o I mean, it's funny to think about :D, but I don't know if any of us would actually like to see that in game; I think it would feel too out-of-character for Shep and Kaidan.

I'd like to see it in game.

No matter how "good" my Paragon is. She's been dead and trying to get her life back together. Giving in to some more primal urges would be more likely to happen if they were there.

Alright, apparently my opinion is in the minority.  Whatever.  :) How do you think Kaidan would react to that, though?

I would fully expect him to put the brakes on it! But, after a moment or two of enjoying some of that more primal closeness. He'd come back to his senses too quickly... >.>
