Carth or Alistair I could understand...
If I may ask, why not?
Personally he's my favorite LI from any game so far. Calm, mature and smexy.
We've been asked this question a lot. Rather surprised you said you understand why Carth. A lot of people seem to toss Kaidan and Carth onto the same pile
I can go on and on, but since I have to leave the house in a few mins...I won't. Besides, it's all been said before

For me, Kaidan is my favorite Bioware love interest, because he's mature, sensitive, and easy on the eyes. In ME1, Kaidan never complains or tries to lay all his problems on Shepard, in fact he tells you about his time at Brain Camp because he wants to explain why he's concerned about you while chasing down Saren, not because he needs you to be his therapist. If you're a female Shepard, he never mentions his migraines, and shows his interest in you early and often, but not in an overbearing, in your face way. He will walk away from Shepard if she can't choose between him and Liara, because he won't pursue a relationship if he thinks that Shepard isn't as serious as he is, and because he won't break regs for a mere fling. He also will be understanding and patient if you decide not to sleep with him before Ilos.
As a teammate, Kaidan is a great character, if you don't autolevel him and pump up Medicine for Neural Shock, since he is the only party member other than Shepard who can use that ability. I enjoy playing as a pure Soldier or Adept, and bringing Kaidan along means that I can have almost anyone else in the third slot, since he has Decryption and Electronics, along with his biotic powers. He has fun interactions with other characters, also, and it's cute to watch the shy quiet guy scream "I WILL DESTROY YOU!" in combat.
As a love interest, Kaidan has a great, sexy voice, and is very attractive, despite the bumpy hair. I'm not interested in romancing non-asari aliens, generally, and I play mostly very Paragon characters, so Kaidan's personality and looks make him the best choice for me. I'm not impressed by badass rogue cops with a suicidal death wish, mysterious assassins with loads of issues, and I don't need EXTREME attributes like scars or tattoos to make a human character interesting to me.
When it comes to ME2, I think most Kaidan and Ashley lovers accept that they walk away on Horizon because of a cheap plot device, and don't hold it against their characters. Shepard isn't exactly convincing in that scene when trying to show that Cerberus isn't as bad as Kaidan or Ashley think it is, and I respect the fact that the Virmire survivor won't follow blindly, and will do his or her duty as an Alliance soldier, even if it hurts them to say goodbye to Shepard again.

TZ, complimenta on that beautiful post explaining Kaidan's appeal! I think you covered it all.
Cant wait to, er, get to work and check out the cute grin video! That smile is just another reason why I love sparkly-eyed Kaidan picture so much.
As far as "girl games" are concerned, I can't think of what that might be beyond a Barbie computer game made for little girls. I've enjoyed games as varied as the original Wolfenstein and Leisure Suit Larry, Civilization, The Sims, Baldurs Gate, DAO and of course ME. Does liking any of those make me not a girl, or a woman? Pfff.

I just had a hilarious mental image of my pregnant Shep whose fic I've been working on intermittently for the past 3 weeks just destroying everything in her path on her way to Saren, and Kaidan looking at her like, "Who are you and what have you done with my CO?"
I think it was Jaer who made a mention in one of her fics of Shepard being particularly vicious in combat during a certain time of month. "PMS may have been the weapon that stopped Saren and Sovereign from taking over the Citadel."

But at least we all have our ME1 save games where we can watch the locker scene and the night before Ilos over and over again to make ourselves feel better after dealing with Horizon.

I know that if you play as male Shepard, you never experience lots of the interaction with Kaidan that make him interesting, and we didn't even get a loyalty quest in the first game to make up for it.
Mass Effect 3 really needs more friendship options for squadmates, it's no fair that if you don't romance a particular character, you miss out on so much, in both games.

So true... but even that tends to be less satisfying - just knowing what
will happen in ME2.
But yes, it is something to calm down that
raging beast that still yowls broken hearts and lost loves...
oh and it barks of horrible dialog options as well...
