What intrigues me is, why did everyone become devoted in the first place.
Guess I'll share.
With Mass Effect 1 I was told that my squad would be integral to my enjoyment, interacting with them would net me greater depth and possibly a romance.
So I took a close look and wandered through all the dialogue of all the characters. All of them were well motivated and deep but of the 3 love interests none struck me as someone I'd have taken a liking to.
Tali was the female character I took a warming to, she had an interesting quest that wasn't related to my own goals so I was naturally curious to find out why. By the end I enjoyed learning about it all, interesting people even though she was the only one in the entire game!
I'm also a big fan of tech based abilities so she ended up next to me all the time. Shutting down enemies constantly while I do the heavy lifting (Biotics muahaha!).
I also enjoyed how her character was written, she's pragmatic, the galaxy is a hard place and you'll get no sympathy from her as an enemy. She does however respond well to anybody that comes to her aid and with a helping hand. Treat her right and she'll have your back through hell. Twice! Mass Effect 1 in a way almost felt like it was a subplot for her, the majority of the enemies you fought were all the monsters that her people suffered from. It made sense to me that she be included while battling them every step of the way.
It was a shame when at the end of the first game I could only be a really good friend to her but that was fine, she was destined to leave, she made no mystery of it. We only crossed paths trying to save the galaxy our own ways and her's was a responsibility to her people.
Perhaps it was the forbidden fruit but I've been hooked on her since. <3
Seeing her again in Mass Effect 2 was a heart warming experience. Her responsibility to her people was done and she chose to come back.
Welcome back Tali.
Welcome home.
