What language do you think we would use if we join to some galactic alliance?
(I hate conditionals)
In ME it says they use translators. So everyone mostly speaks thier own language. Otherwise I'm sure that the galactic community would come up with some sort of galactic basic language to facilitate trade.
As for earth my bets are on everyone speaking mandrin or japanese in the future.
I doubt it, Arabic nations dont have a lot of pull in the global economy right now. China is the fastest growing industrial nation and Japan is where all the tech is. English used to be a contender but we've sorta declined a bit in the last few decades. Still english is a widely spoken business language but I don't know how much longer that will last.
Japan is not the only place with advanced tech. The Western countries are centers of some of the most advanced technology on Earth. As China and other nations continue to develop the West may find it will have to fight harder to maintain the same relevance and power. China is not a dominant global force yet (though certainly a regional one and well on its way to gaining a much stronger global role). What will be interesting to see is whether a new power balance will arise, once more rendering the world bi-polar from a socio-economic perspective similar to the Cold War where the world was split between communism and capitalism. Personally I'm willing to fight and kill for my country and various aspects of the Western way of life (not all things Western are necessarily better nor good pending your moral compass). However, I will never bow nor submit to the authoritarian regime that is China today. Death first if need be.
P.S. The same goes for the spread of radical Islam in Europe. Immigrants in any country originating from any culture should, IMO, actively try to fit in with their new adopted home, learn the language, obey the laws, pay their taxes, try to find gainful employment, etc. and learn to accept the different cultural values (ex. freedom of speech and religion even if it may seem offensive to some others). If immigrants and asylum seekers can not, or will not, undertake such an endeavour they should leave or be forcible removed IMO. Furthermore, I'd much rather spend the money directly helping rebuilding and developing poorer countries. The money goes further there anyway and would help maintain a more diverse global human community.
Anyhow, this is way off topic. Back to Tali love!
