She really makes the game for me. I know we're just getting into 'sad' here, but, if she's not in ME3, I'm not sure if I'll even play it. . .

"In the game" is so vague, though, but I agree with you, if I find out she and Garrus or whoever are reduced to cameo's via Liara from ME2, there's no way I'm buying it until I hear some real good feedback from this site.

Yeah, I think it's obvious she's pretty well liked internally by BioWare.

And there was that story written by (I think it was Chris Priestly?), over the Normandy crew celebrating xmas, and it was about Shepard trying to find the right gift for Tali, which was really cute.

I hope he has the kindness in his heart to lock it on 1337.  That said, I would probably do exactly what you described.

When I first played ME1 and I got the mission to rescue her from Fist's men.

"Damn, I got like 3 minutes to get to this lady, I better hurry"

"HOLY !$#! WHAT A BODY"

(On Normandy) "Damn this girl is cute as hell. Her whole race is pretty interesting too. Forget that human chick, I want this to be my LI"

Then I proceeded to talk to her after every mission until I learned she wasn't a romance option :(

I knew ahead of time in ME1 that she was "CANNOT HAVE" so I didn't get real excited about her.  She was cool and all, but I wasn't going to torture myself.

Then when the rumors started circulating on 4chan about her being an LI in ME2, followed by the proof in the form of screenshots and gifs, I went and purchased ME2.  Guess she was there in the back of my mind all along.

I completely avoided all ME2 media, so I had no idea she was a LI until I heard Kelly talk about Tali, and then finally confirmed when I talked to Tali after her trial. :D

I was convinced they were going to show her face in the romance scene though, so when that didn't happen, it was a pretty big FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-- moment for me. :P

dude i did the same thing I had NOOO clue Tali was even on me2 let alone an LI !!
I WAS SOOOO EXCITED I ABOUT CRAPPED MYSELF WHEN KELLY SAID SHE LIKED ME!!
and i thought the same thing about the romance scene i did the whole FUUUUUUUUUUUU~~ thing too hahaha

Same thing.  I had romanced Liara in the last game because she was the next best thing to Tali, who I really wanted but couldn't have.  I never looked up anything for ME 2, then I went to Ilium and found out Liara had ditched me and become kind of a b**ch. I was like "ok, I guess Miranda is a good fill in," and for that particular character I romanced her and I chose the "bad" option for Tali's mission because it was part of my Shepard's character (still sad though).  Anyway, because of that Tali never hit on me, so I didn't know she was a romance option.

Second playthrough, I made a good Shep, heard about the "wait till ME 3 for your romance thing" figured I'd just skip the romance and wait till the third game.  Then Kelly Chambers said the thing about Tali liking me and I was like "WHAT??? No way, Bioware wouldn't risk putting an interspecies romance in the game and risk the ire of Fox News."  I couldn't help myself though: I looked it up and found out I could get Tali as a romance.  I said "Yes! F***ing awesome!" out loud just out of reflex.  I shirked pretty much all sleep and schoolwork just so I could play ME 2 and go through the Tali romance, I was so excited.  Didn't get a very good grade on my test, but it didn't matter because romancing Tali was AWESOME, lol

I have no worries about that.  She's a crucial character to the plot, and Bioware obviously loves her.

Sometimes it really does seem like the quarian/geth issue is like a parallel plot to the main storyline.

Have you seen the post explosions that pop up around milestone pages?  The Woo would be playing with fire attempting to pull that off.  We will probably jump from 1335 to 1338 in 30 seconds

Read your story again: you're a damn good writer.  I'm a writer myself and I really don't like to read because I don't like the way most other people write, but you have a really good style: it pulls you in.  It makes me remember when I got Tali killed the first time...and makes me feel 10 times worse about it, lol.

The good thing about that is there is always the "load" option, but I think the scarier thing is the unknown future.  We really don't know what Bioware is going to do to Tali in ME 3.  They may indeed decide to do something like this and kill her off to make it more "dramatic."  Reading this evokes a fear that Tali may actually die permanently in ME 3, but stirs me to want to protect her.  If anything, I'm really anxious to see how ME 3 plays out!

Thank you, again. I know it's horrible to say this, but my ego does love praise.

No kidding, man. Life needs that same Load button. She really was the only person in my squad that died, which made it SO MUCH WORSE!
My biggest fear is that we won't even get a 'dramatic' death. That, when ME3 rolls around, we won't even see her, but instead we'll get some lame "Oh, she's off fighting Geth right now."
I don't want to her be cast off so easily, but when you look at how many ways she can die in ME2 mixed with how the Kaiden or Ashley was treated in ME2, it makes you wonder if BioWare would put a lot of work into a character that might not have even survived the suicide mission.

I just hope that our massive pressence is making some kind of impact on their judgement, though.

Here it is. It was by Patrick Weekes, one of Bioware's writers.

-----------------

i can imagine shepard's first christmas with tali onboard being really awkward. first he gets a box of chocolates for his little shotgun-toting engineer buddy, but then garrus mentions that quarians are amino-dextrous, so the chocolate would kill her.

shepard then remembers her love for both tech and shotguns and ponies up for the best shotgun on the market, along with anti-synthetic ammo mods. he drops by wrex to have him check them out, only to have wrex mention that during one of their elevator rides, tali mentioned her pride in her tech and salvage skills, such that she'd rather make weapons than buy them, and would never like a purchased weapon for a present. wrex then adds that that's an awfully big box of chocolates, and wrex would be happy to hang onto both it and the new shotgun while shepard figures out a new gift for tali.

at this point, shepard says "screw it!" and gets her a gift card at omni-gel emporium. just as he's about to sneak it into tali's stocking (one of six hung up over the galaxy map, one of two with the big toe-sleeves, and the only toe-sleeved one that doesn't have "garrus vakarian" stitched on it, with "spectre" stitched under it and then crossed out with "c-sec officer" stitched under that, in turn also crossed out with "galactic bada" stitched at the bottom and clearly not quite finished in time for christmas), shepard hears joker laughing about the system they've just passed, which has survey teams selling planetary rights to barely habitable worlds for cheap. and shepard remembers tali's stories about what happened with the geth, and how her people are homeless, driven from their world.

in the morning, as they all gather in c&c to unwrap presents, tali is confused by the wrapped box that contains nothing but a card... until she realizes how hard it is to wrap a new homeworld.

(liara is, by the way, really touched by shepard's thoughtfulness in getting her that omni-gel gift card.)

Yeah, that was a little vauge, sorry.
What I mean is: 'if she does not have a SERIOUS pressence in the game'
As in: Keep her as a damn squad-member and Li, BioWare! Don't you DARE do the same to her as you did to Liara! I will pretend that ME 3 never existed if you do, the same way I pretend that there was never a Matrix 2 and 3. Or that the Snuggee dosn't exist.

I think it's going to be huge in ME3.  I'm really hoping that my paragon Shepard and Tali can broker some sort of peace agreement between the Flotilla and the Geth.  Massive armies of Geth platforms on the front lines with the Quarian Navy and machinists backing them up?  I want that combo when it's time to take on the Reapers.

I know, I really wish I had that load button some time.  One time I actually had something like this happen: it was to a stranger, but I could have prevented his death.  My family was in the Philippines having a party for an orphanage and a deaf school, and we rented out a pool.  I'm a good swimmer, so I had been scouting the deep side of the pool to watch out for the kids most of the time.  One point in the day, I swam over to the other side of the pool just to talk to my stepsister, who was 7 and swimming in the shallow end.  In that ten minutes, a 17 year old kid jumped into the deep end and drowned.  Me and my dad pulled him out and tried to perform CPR on him, but he was dead.  If I had changed a fraction of the past, he may have lived.  I guess that's one of the reasons your story really does it for me.
