IMO, Liara was very selfish in ME2, also obsessed with the Shadow Broker. You would think she knows the Reapers are a bit of a bigger threat then the Shadow Broker.

You aren't being very charitable in your evaluation of Liara.  Honestly, there isn't any doubt at all that Liara loves you dearly and cares for you deeply, even if you didn't romance her.  The only reason she is obsessed with the Shadow Broker in the first place is because you were so important to her; her grief over what the Shadow Broker tried to do to you is what drives her anger, and her evasiveness about telling you why she was actually so angry about it was due to her fear that you'd hate her for it.

Liara really does care about you, and I get the feeling that how you handle her in ME2 and ME3 will determine whether she regains her old self or turns bitter, and maybe even whether she lives or dies.

She makes those diaries on Haestrom *after* she gets to know that you're still alive/alive again.

yeah i know that... but dont tell me she didnt think about you for 2 years when you were dead even if it was just for 1 year, it says in the game she loves you, and it even proves it, think about it someone you loved, only to find out their dead, would you not think about them, and be atleast the tinist bit of sad that you never were able to tell that you truly loved them in tali's case it seems like she almost cry's when telling shepard about how she saw alanko/ashley die before your eyes and whole diolouge sequence

I was just pointing out that the diaries were made after the revelation that Shep is still alive, so they are not an indicator of Tali's thinking about him while he was still dead.
That doesn't mean that I doubt that she did.

ohh... OOPS I guess I really was writing everything that went to mind lol, while writing that my thought process went to the tali diaries, i wanted to expand on those, but i couldnt come up with compashinate things to say

That's what Tali has done for shepard. She literally risked her life for him, to be with him, to love him. That's one of the reasons why she's incredible.

Ok I'll admit, that really did make me like her.

When I was doing my run with Liara as my LI and she said that I had to redo ME1 over with no romances just for her.

I agree whole<3edly. Tali is just such a wonderful, genuine person, I don't understand how people can have so much hate and contempt for her. She's just a kid. She's what, 25, in ME2? Give her a chance and you'll be convinced of how much she cares about yo--Shepard (DAMN IT  ) and how much she has sacrificed to be with yo--Shepard (DAMN IT AGAIN  ). Anyways, Tali is just so much :wub::wub:

I don't know about you, but who my friends are isn't dependent on how much they have done for me.
I like Tali because she is a real friend.  She appreciates and enjoys your company, she is kind, and intelligent, and just has an endearing personality in general.  It isn't at all about what she has or hasn't done for me.

There is also the mystery that surrounds her..

Mystery?  I don't know -- Tali is actually not very mysterious as a person.  She is actually very open and willing to talk to you about almost everything.  You know her deepest desires, and worries, and about her troubled relationship with her father.  Just wearing a mask doesn't make her mysterious.  Now that I have come to know and love her as a character, the mask doesn't add anything; in fact it detracts.  I could really do without it.

I'm posting this again in case it was missed by some, it's seriously a cute story!

It was a short story written by Patrick Weekes, one of BioWare's writers, in an old Tali thread, regarding Shepard trying to find an xmas gift for Tali.

i can imagine shepard's first christmas with tali onboard being really awkward. first he gets a box of chocolates for his little shotgun-toting engineer buddy, but then garrus mentions that quarians are amino-dextrous, so the chocolate would kill her.

shepard then remembers her love for both tech and shotguns and ponies up for the best shotgun on the market, along with anti-synthetic ammo mods. he drops by wrex to have him check them out, only to have wrex mention that during one of their elevator rides, tali mentioned her pride in her tech and salvage skills, such that she'd rather make weapons than buy them, and would never like a purchased weapon for a present. wrex then adds that that's an awfully big box of chocolates, and wrex would be happy to hang onto both it and the new shotgun while shepard figures out a new gift for tali.

at this point, shepard says "screw it!" and gets her a gift card at omni-gel emporium. just as he's about to sneak it into tali's stocking (one of six hung up over the galaxy map, one of two with the big toe-sleeves, and the only toe-sleeved one that doesn't have "garrus vakarian" stitched on it, with "spectre" stitched under it and then crossed out with "c-sec officer" stitched under that, in turn also crossed out with "galactic bada" stitched at the bottom and clearly not quite finished in time for christmas), shepard hears joker laughing about the system they've just passed, which has survey teams selling planetary rights to barely habitable worlds for cheap. and shepard remembers tali's stories about what happened with the geth, and how her people are homeless, driven from their world.

in the morning, as they all gather in c&c to unwrap presents, tali is confused by the wrapped box that contains nothing but a card... until she realizes how hard it is to wrap a new homeworld.

(liara is, by the way, really touched by shepard's thoughtfulness in getting her that omni-gel gift card.)

To me it's more about loyalty than anything, of all the squadmates from ME1, only Tali and Garrus were loyal enough to return to Shepard's side. In Garrus's case it was for medical treatment, but he still stayed. Tali could've just as easily returned to the fleet saying she had a responsibility to her people(Wrex), or that she'd never work for Cerberus(Kaiden/Ash), but no, she comes right out and says, "I'm here for YOU Shepard, not them".

As for a LI, what better choice is there? Ash and Liara have their good points, but neither one would come back to the Normandy. The other girls in ME2, Jack has issues(lots of them) but even she seems preferable to Miranda. Only 2 people on the ship with private quarters, and she wants to get it on in Tali's workspace?! Tali is the only LI who shows a genuine interest in Shepard (not just lust) even before the romance plot begins.

My first playthrough, I planned on staying loyal to Liara no matter what, then I saw her on Illium. The whole "asari commando" line, great character development, but if she's turning into her mother, that's a relationship breaker. Then I went to Haestrom, and I heard Tali's recording, "I wish Shepard were here..." That settled it. She was already my favorite squadmate from ME1, now she's my only LI choice.
