Technically aren't the corporations and billionaires/trillionaires backing TIM and Cerby the jerks?

I'd say its pretty likely the alliance is backing them or at least protecting them somewhat as well.  As much as everyone here likes to demonize TIM and Cerberus, from the Alliance's standpoint, Cerberus has the potential to help them a lot, and they have built in plausable deniability to anything they do.

Also, its worth mentioning, Cerberus and TIM in general went through a Liara like character change going into ME2.  ME2 Cerberus/TIM is no where near as evil as in ME1 and the books.  People need to take that into consideration when levying that stuff as evidence against them.  Bioware clearly wanted Cerberus to be more likable, and all actions from ME2 on are.  They're still a human supremacy group, so they're never going to be the good guys, but they're not the terrorist organization that they were before anymore.
