They're logical. Emotion has no real effect on their decisions. Yes, the quarians have paid the price for their arrogance, and deserve a second chance.

You said it yourself that theyre just machines. I doubt you would care much if the Quarians did attack the geth and managed to wipe them out.

Those who dont learn from past mistakes are doomed to repeat them.

Did the quarains more than pay for thier mistake. Yes
But did they learn from it? They think the lesson was that AI is bad. But thats just another mistake. The real mistake was genocide is bad. Until they learn that they will be doomed.

I would disagree with you about not trusting someone without emotions.  I trust the geth specifically because they don't have emotions.  They think logically.  They haven't attacked organics since their existence because they know its not smart.  They haven't hunted down the quarians and killed them because they don't hold grudges.

By the same token, the quarians don't have a planet because they refuse to think logically.  They continue to harbor hate and plan war.  If they sought a diplomatic solution, they could've been back on their homeworld centuries ago, all the geth want is to be left alone, I really believe that they would give up a useless planet to get that.

That said, I'm definitely not a quarian hater or geth lover, or whatever, just focusing on that one point.  Emotional decision making is very bad.

I love the quarians, but at least the geth are willing to understand us organics! We on the other hand are prejudiced against machines because we created them. We also create our progeny; should we be prejudiced against our children as well?

That never works out well for the people who think that. Humanity thought that they could control the Cybrids. Worked until they realized humans weren't fit to be anybody's master and drove the human race to near extinction. People thought Skynet would be a nifty tool, and then Judgement Day happened. The quarians thought they could control the geth as slaves, and now they're 17 million strong on ships held together with spit and duct tape, unable to find a home for the past 300 years.

Yet, when sentient machines get treated with respect, we get cases like Data, who wants to be more human. He's treated like anyone else on the crew. C-3PO gets treated like an equal (an annoyin g equal), and R2-D2 is practically revered. The geth haven't done anything to anyone since the Morning War, showing you what they're like.

I've wondered what would have happened if the quarians had sacked up and done things differently.

Imagine if they had welcomed the emergence of the geth mind as the birth of a new child.  Nurtured it, taught it.  Quarians respect and worship their ancestors.  How could geth do differently?

Listen to what Legion says on the subject:  he says geth know their origins, know their purpose, face no mysteries like organic races.  They were created to work, and their creators tried to kill them.  What if this were different, and the creators had seen that they had made something more than slaves, and greeted them as friends.  Perhaps geth would instead say that the were created to work, but were embraced as more by their creators when they came of age.

I ask those who say "geth are machines, do as you want to them" what they would say if this alternative scenario had happened instead.

Well, I will agree that before ME1 I did also hate the Geth.
It wasnt until ME2 and those talks with Legion that my eyes were opened.

I don't know, maybe I got carried away there. I like the quarians so I don't like people hating on them. I think they were justified in trying to take out the geth, just as the geth were justified in defending themsleves. It's like the genophage, commit one atrocity to possibly stop another. No one is guilty, but everyone is responsible.

Personally I think the genophage was the right call as well but that's another subject
