I know this is off topic but goes anyone have an idea of the different types of people that you'll try to get on your side for ME3 like the Quarians and Geth.

Anyone with a respectable army.

Quarians, geth, humans, turians, asari, salarians, krogan.  Maybe the merc groups as a whole as well.

Don't forget the Rachni!

Not in my game, I killed the Queen.:D

Both.

Army is bad because it's too small to make a difference in interstellar wars-they're only 17 million in total, so they have about, what, half a million in the army at most?

Fleet can't be good because they need all their ships to live on = no pure military ships = inefficient. I dare say that the Turians, hell, even the humans have a bigger number of ships that can actually fight.

I still love quarians, though.

Oh, just found a way so that they're useful: They could crash these huge hive ships or whatever they're called into the Reapers kamikaze styleImage IPB

What if there's no ground wars? What does the army do then? Twiddle it's thumbs?

Ashley said it herself in ME1, the reaper threat is a fleet problem. She'll be stuck groundside hurling insults.

Just out of curiosity, is there numbers for how many of the Quarian ships are actually capable for combat? Or is it assumed that all are?

i think a lot have at least some sort of weapons if only defensive in nature.

IIRC it was mentioned in the Codex that there are several hundred military vessels in the Flotilla and that most of the ships are armed to some extent. That said, there is almost certainly bound to be a major difference between a spaceship designed and built to operate in a theater of war compared to a space scow with a tacked on laser cannon or two.

*snip*

I've heard the latter comment often, and I think I know why some people feel off about the picture. Really, aside from it being a detailed picture, Tali is looking towards the viewer via a sideways glance, so it seems more...femme fatale than it was intended to be. I've spoken with Cyrus on his DeviantArt page, and he agreed that it does seem more provocative than he intended it to be. As to the facial marking? Well...given how little an amount of time Quarian spend out of thier suits it would not really make alot of sense for them to have markings or tattoos like the Asari or Turians. Also, the darker shade of lavender skin is unlikely, main due to lighter skin tone from lack of UV exposure.

Without getting into the whole UV exposure thing too far.  Bioware can easily have them pale without sun or not.  There is no guarantee that they would react the same as us.

Acutally (and forgive me, I love this topic) it quite likely that Quarians would react in a very similar fashion to Humans to UV exposure as most species in the ME Universe do react to thier respective Stars of origin. The Turians, for example, developed thier outer skin layer to protect against thier Red Dwarf Star. Given that Quarians share a very similar ancestry with us, it's not too far fetched at all to assume that they would react to UV light in the same way we do; i.e., darker skin when exposed to UV light for long periods of time to protect the skin from damage, and lighter skin with lack of UV exposure due to decrease in iron, etc.
Image IPB

Reason I didn't want to get too far into it is that I'm nowhere near proficient enough in the science to make any real argument. :?  And there seems like a lot of variables to start any kind of scientific argument.  Bioware could easily justify going any way.  That's one aspect I'm fine with waiting for a reveal to look into though, skin color isn't really a big deal to me.

I'm sure they have some sort of ground based anti-ship weapons that can be fired from planets into space that they can play around with...

Seriously, the ground forces will probably be useless in the war against the Reapers except maybe to replenish fallen marines and be sent inside Reapers to blow them up from within.

Well if Fleets are considered part of a "navy", wouldn't that be the job for the "marines"? :?

Quarians would be a great ally in a war with the Reapers. They obviously won't be able to pack the biggest punch (though I'm sure they have hundreds of warships, they need to protect the entire fleet), but with their affinity for tech they'll be able to make repairs and modifications on ally ships.

Think of them as the engineer of a battlefield. Yeah, he's got a few guns and can shoot, but he'll really shine in laying down mines, fixing tanks, repairing rifles, handling demolitions, etc.
