On Freedom's Progress, her crew got all stupid and disobeyed her orders. If she were a little better leader maybe she could've kept control of them, but ultimately it was them being stupid. 

On Haestrom, those marines and her were just plain sent into a bad, dangerous situation. There wasn't anything she could've done. 

With the trial, that was purely her father's fault, as well as the Admirals using her to settle their disputes. 

Gotta bump this. I feel the same way, Tali and Garrus tear me apart with their "progressions"  

I bring it up because a lot of people consider her to be a "damsel in distress". In some ways it's true, since Shepard has saved her life and bailed her out of trouble quite a few times. But she was always doing her job or fighting. She was never at a point where she'd just lay down and die. Most of it was just bad luck, or situations you wouldn't expect a normal person to be able to handle. 

Tali saved my ass on the collector base when I made the leap of faith to the Normandy!

I think people are confusing Tali's "being nice" with "being a damsel in distress."  If you think about it, Tali is a very confident, assertive person.  She stands up to the thugs when she is misled by fist.  She fervently defends her beliefs, even when Shepard disagrees with him.  She speaks out against the Admiralty when they accuse her, even when doing so is an big violation of their code.  I think she's a very strong woman, which is part of what makes her attractive to me.
