Unless both Shepard and Tali can find a way to make shepard "Quarian".
The romantic in me wants to see them have the "...and they lived happily after..." ending but the realist in me can't see it becuase of what I know and feel to be a real obstacle in their relationship.
Can Bioware work something out, can they write a believeable tale that would make us happy, bringing both Tali and Shepard together? I hope so. I am counting on them, but I will expect the worse while hoping for the best.

A couple of people here attempted the false hope here, saying Mordin could make them compatible with each other.
Also, alickar likes Whales, or so I've heard.

If we all think about it, Tali's personality and her dedication to her race will be the real hurdle to overcome in any real long term relationship with Shepard. For one thing whether its a war with the Geth, or with the reapers, lots of Quarians will die. Like in Battlestar Galactica, one of the major hurdles just to survive as a race, is not just having numbers, its also having xxx numbers of adults, breeding adults with xxx numbers of children and a war like that one they will face will take a heavy toll on the Quarians as a whole. Like it or not, the Quarians will need every fertile female to breed and perhaps even change their view on "marriages" if the are to survive / keep their genenic pool diverse enough not to fall into a downward spiral of interbreeding and thus further weakening or killing their race entirely.
Unless both Shepard and Tali can find a way to make shepard "Quarian".

I can't imagine their numbers getting so low where one female's kids can make a difference.
Besides, consider this. Assuming the reapers are defeated, and there's peace and all that. There's a super-high chance that Shepard will end up a member of the Council. By being hooked up with a man in that position, she'll be able to help out the Quarians far more than she ever could just by making babies.

Rather than worrying about producing children, the best thing that Tali can do to help the Quarians is to help Shepard defeat the Reapers. The Geth are largely defeated as aggressors to the Quarians if you helped Legion. The only real worry are the geth being indoctrinated by the reapers again, and the quarians learning that they can live in peace with the geth.Archonsg wrote...

I think you're exaggerating. Ultimately one quarian not reproducing makes little difference - as most Quarians are in flotilla ships anyway, there's plenty of quarians to go around. Most Quarians have relationships with other Quarians due to their way of life in addition to physiology. These ships are crowded, it's not as if there is a deficiency in numbers.Like it or not, the Quarians will need every fertile female to breed and perhaps even change their view on "marriages" if the are to survive / keep their genenic pool diverse enough not to fall into a downward spiral of interbreeding and thus further weakening or killing their race entirely.

As much as I hate to admit it, you make several good points here.
Still, I'd like to think that Tali would remain loyal to Shepard. Even if the Quarians need to replenish their numbers for whatever reason, I want to believe that Tali would do whatever was needed to remove herself from that in order to remain faithful to Shepard.
However, I do think that the only thing in her heart that takes more priority to Shepard is the Fleet. If the Quarians do go to war with the Geth then I'm positive that she'll leave to go fight for her homeworld where, I honestly believe, she'll die. Tali has managed to cheat death several times now, but you can only do that for so long.
So I'm in the same boat: the romanic want's the fairy-tale ending, but the realist sees things ending badly. . .

Never, ever discount a female's biological clock.
Trust me on this, know a few marriages that broke because of this and that's in RL...humans. So a Human-Quarian pairing chances are higher.
Like I said, I can see lots of reasons why Tali would want to stay with Shepard but there are just as many reasons for her not to, How Bioware goes with it....is what we are here for right?
I honestly doubt any of the writers actually would want to monitor or even read this thread (the horror!
Just saying that if they don't, that is to be expected as well.
