How about this for right place right time, if Powel wasn't sleeping behind those crates, you would have never known Saren was behind Eden Prime.  We never accuse him of treason in the first place, Garrus doesn't get the lead, and we don't hear about Tali's evidence.  We never would have met Tali.  She would have been taken out by Fist's assassins.  We all owe Powel a great debt of thanks for saving Tali

LOL! True, so the real hero of humanity is Powel and his naps.

It's funny now sometimes something seemingly completely insignificant can change the course of history.
Little scary, too.

Remember the episode of Scrubs, My Butterfly?

Yeah but doesn't the guy end up dying in the end in both realities?

That's not the point I was trying to make, but I suppose we can look at that like this: regardless of whether or not Powell had been napping, we (i.e. Shepard) would've found out about Saren's involvement somehow anyway. Powell is our butterfly, and Saren and the Reapers are our dying man, so to speak.

Could you imagine that, him actually helping Shepard? lol

I can! That's the sad this, I really can see him doing something stupid and suicidal to save Shep's life.=]

Maybe, but would it have been in time? Possible, but a lot would have changed:

Tali: Killed in a back ally.
Liara: Killed in the ruins or taken to Sovern
Garrus: Still trapped within C-sec
Wrex: Never becoming clan-leader to unite his people
Kaidan/ Ash: Still alive

Everything would be different; maybe for the better, maybe for the worse. We'll never know.

I got an email from my boss complaining that some of my work is late.

It's this thread's fault, too.

Actually, by saying that, I'm indirectly blaming Tali, and I just can't do that. So I take it back.

Here's a really great quote in a thread about the pacing of romances in ME2.

JeanLuc761 wrote...
Tali'Zorah:
Tali's
romance was my personal favorite as it has the best pacing out of any
other romance (plus I like her). You already have all your experiences
in the first game going for you which serves as a foundation for her
feelings for you (and yours for her).  This is further driven home on
her recruit mission where several hints are dropped (“I wish Shepard
were here...”) that she cares for you. There's another couple
conversations you have with her before her loyalty mission where you
get to know her a bit better.  They're well paced and neither party is
jumping into things. During Tali's loyalty mission, you build an
incredible emotional connection with her and go through an exceptional
amount of personal turmoil.  If you choose to defend her, this not only
cements her loyalty to you, but your loyalty to her. I like how this is
handled because it's a relationship based upon devotion to one another,
for who that person is. The romance starts after her loyalty mission,
and it's nothing major. She express her interest in you and you can do
so in return. It's fun and flirtatious without coming on too strongly.
The next convo brings you two together, saying that Shepard is willing
to wait for her, as long as it takes. This isn't (just) about sex, this
is about transcending the physical barriers that hold them apart and it
further drives home that these two are devoted to each other. The next
talk has Tali telling you how much she appreciates your patience, and
really shows how much she wants to be with him. The climax of the
relationship is handled very well as Tali get's flustered but is
quickly overcome with joy when her mask is finally removed. Expertly
paced and very believable in the context of the storyline.

Yeah the problem with the situation here is that ME1 is really down to the minute.  Delaying your actions a day pretty much ends the universe.  I think any alternate reality would have to link up pretty early.  Maybe you hear about Tali's evidence from somewhere else, and can still swoop in to save her from Fist's assassins.  Then you learn Saren's a traitor and start from there.

That alternate reality leaves you without Garrus and Wrex, but the main plotline still in tact.  So in conclusion, Powell is responsible for Tali, Garrus and Wrex

Picard said that? Oh snap!

:P

Kidding aside, I agree. Her romance was just expertly crafted. What the writer's/Liz accomplished was just amazing, worthy of an award.
