The odds, as I understand it, aren't bad for intelligent life somewhere.  The odds for it intersecting with our time period?  Probably not as good.

That is why we go out there. It's like needing to leave the house to meet new people. Humanity needs to leave our "house".

Oh, don't get me wrong.  I'd love to get out of the house and cruise around the neighborhood.  I just fear that we'll find that most of the other houses either still have a "for sale" sign out front, or the family that lived there moved out years ago.

Then in that case we just plant our flag and colonize. Humans didn't meet the turians until after having a few colonies. We might be just as lucky.....with out massive war that resulted.
