That's often true, though not always the case.

I'm absolutely fascinated by the concept of people not being "in sync" with what they "should be" from their upbringing. (Not talking about Tali at this point)

That's why I love paragon Earthborn Shepard.

Oh really?  What did you learn about Tali in the engine room?

That Quarians are governed by the Conclave and Admiralty board?  Oh wait, thats about Quarians in General.
That Quarians have weak immune systems due to sterile ship environments?  Oh wait...
That they created the Geth and had to flee their homeworld to live on a floatilla?  Oh wait...
That the Geth share networked computing resources to create higher intellect?  Not even about Quarians!

... well, you DO learn that her dad is a military authoritarian and that her mom is dead, but what does that tell you about Tali?  Not much, really.

Oh!  You also learn that Quarians have to go on a pilgrimage to prove.... oh wait.

Reposting this cuz it's why the discussion started:

Because of the Ally achievements, I was forced to do playthroughs keeping 2 ppl in my squad the whole time. So when I finally got Tali in my squad for 100% of the playthrough, I noticed so much more about her based on little "Talk to Tali" options here and a cutscene there. I appreciated her character more and it's how I became a fanboy of hers.

Without the Elevator rides and "Talk to Tali" a lot of her personality is lost, and I'm sure a lot of people didn't have the female engineer in their squad for their first playthrough (kudos to those that did, like I said I was mental my first run)

I agree every chance to talk to Tali about something even if it's just about Quarians is Tali-related (this thread talks about Quarians and Geth even though we're all about Tali). In ME2 Tali got waaay more personal, and for ppl who never discover how great a character she is then SUX2BU :P

For people as young as me and Tali, I generally hold it to be true... Granted the older someone is, the more life experience they are sure to have. But since she just started her pilgrimage and hasn't seen anything past that home setting, it's pretty much the best source into her mindset you can get.

Not really.  Not unless you're implying that all Quarians have similar personalities.  After all, they all grew up in similar conditions and have the same histories.  Yet Tali is much different than, say, Admiral Xen, or even her own father.

Does it have an influence?  Sure, of course it does, but it doesn't actually tell you much about her personality -- it just illuminates why her personality is the way it is.

1) Being the daughter of an admiral is pretty different, she even tells you this in depth.
2) There are how many ships that people grow up on in the flotilla? You're generalizing.

And since when is knowing how someone is the way they are, not knowing a lot about their personality?

I meant at trying to talk like Mordin, maybe I should've been more specific

Profile picture changed. I am a Shepard I shall look like Shepard. Besides, I have a theory: Tali feels closer to Renegade Shepard because Renegade Shepard could easily say "I didn't think you would see past, this" and Shepard points to his scars. Tali then says "I felt the same way about my helmet!", "No way, we're perfect for each other!" :innocent:

DISCUSS!

They should develop ME3's graphics entirely around PCs, and then just downgrade them for the console guys.

Now, some of the Xbox'ers here may be wondering "Well what good does that do me?", and here's your answer. Imagine Tali screenshots and videos with this level of detail!

 That's a 2 year old game, too. :P

1) Being the daughter of an admiral is pretty different, she even tells you this in depth.

What she says is that she "probably had it easier than most".  She was not a celebrity, or rich, nor did she live in a luxury suite.  She still grew up in a ship crammed with lots of people, still had to live in a suit, still dealt with scarse resources, still had to suffer all the injustices that the Quarians endure on a regular basis.  I don't think anything truly significant is different about the conditions she grew up under as opposed to other Quarians.

2) There are how many ships that people grow up on in the flotilla? You're generalizing.

But they still grew up on ships.  She tells you that she is used to the sounds of old, rattling parts and lack of privacy.  They don't have luxury ships in the floatilla.  I'm generalizing because Tali was generalizing.  Quarians have it rough, that is just how it is.

And since when is knowing how someone is the way they are, not knowing a lot about their personality?

But you have to know how they are first.  She doesn't really let you know that in the first game, at least not through the engine-room dialogue.

In other words, knowing someones past does not mean you know anything about their personality.
However, knowing someone's past can help you understand their personality once you know it.

We can be pretty much assured that ME3, will have pretty much the same graphics as ME2 :P

Yeah let's not get started stereotyping all Shepard's that lean towards renegades as jerks.  That's no more correct than calling all paragons pansies.  Renegade to bad guys, paragon to crew members/the two or three people in ME2 that deserve it is my preferred way to play.

As far as the whole scars thing, it just didn't seem like the scars were a big enough deal.  No one references them at all at any point in the game.  It would be odd if Shep automatically assumed that Tali, someone who I can't see being caught up on superficial appearances, would be the first.
