1) That she had expectations, responsibility, and pressure growing up... more so than some other Quarians.
But that doesn't say anything about how she handled them, only that they were there.
It says more about her father and other Quarians than it says about her.
2) She wasn't in conditions similar to all other quarians.. most ships are different, and she was the daughter of an admiral, making her slightly different than quarians on even her own ship.
None of the conversations give any indiction that any of the ships harbor significantly different living conditions than the others. Tali also completely downplays the differences between the conditions of her upbringing and the conditions of other Quarians; her strongest statement on the matter is "I probably had it a bit easier". I don't honestly think this point has any significance.
Knowing why someone has certain personality traits, is just as important as knowing what they are
First of all, I have to disagree somewhat. You cannot even begin know why until you know what
first.
Next of all... well, I'm unsure how to explain myself any better than I have. I already said that I'm not downplaying the importance of knowing where she comes from. I know it can be insightful to know someone's background. All I am saying is that
it does not tell you anything about her actual personality traits.
sometimes more important... not everyone is upfront about who they truly are, taking everything as face value is naive.
I'm not suggesting that Tali would just
tell you what her personality traits are, only pointing out that they didn't emerge from on-ship dialogue the way Wrex or Garrus' did.
Garrus tells you about his frustrations with C-Sec restrictions, about his episode with Dr. Saleon, about his enthusiasm about being on a mission with a Spectre. These all say something about Garrus as a character. He doesn't spend lots of time rambling about Turian government, he talks about HIMSELF. The same with Wrex. He tells you about his ideas when he was a clan leader, he tells you about his conflict with his father and the old ways of the Krogan warlords. He tells you about his exploits with his Commando friend Aleena. The closest he comes to generalities about the Krogan is the one conversation branch about the genophage, which is still mostly ends up being his own take on the Krogan condition.
Tali doesn't tell you ANYTHING about things that she has done, or specific things that have happened to her, whether that be things that happened to her on the floatilla or during her pilgrimage.
That she had a tough life, but instead of giving into it, she stayed strong.. That she's a fighter
Then all Quarians must be fighters, because literally all of them have had a tough life; at least any that grew up on the floatilla. I mean, ANY Quarian could have given you ALL of that information, with only a select few differences. If you never keep her in your party, you learn virtually nothing about her that doesn't also apply to 99% of living Quarians. That is my point.
