What people often think are "reverse-hinged knees" are actually digitigrade legs.  Essentially the animal in question has a very elongated, bent foot structure so that the "heel" is always up off the ground.  Basically, it always walks on it's tippy-toes.  The actual knee still bends in the right direction.  Quarians do not have this feature... their heel sits on the ground.

Many apologies organics, after taking time to study, we have found the source of our error. The argument for backwards knees likely stems from a combination of Quarian leg curvature and the unique leg/boot armor protrusions. We thought Quarians were digitigrade because of how Tali is standing in the squad selection screen in Mass Effect 2. Sorry.
