I'm going to repost this question and would like to hear your thoughts on it.

How do you think the Flotilla would react to Shepard being with Tali? Would Tali care?

Personally, I see some of the quarians disapproving the relationship, but Tali not giving a damn.

They would debate and argue like hey always do in matters but I don't think they would care much...

Oh I disagree. Tali has alot on her shoulders due to who her father was. Quarians are also a very insular people who focus almost entirely(and they have to due to their limited resources and precarious nature) their people and the fleet.
One of their most respected members of the fleet is invovled in a romantic relationship with a human spectre, former alliance/cerberus person.
Cerberus is an enemy of the quarians
The alliance has no ties to the quarians
The council abandoned the quarians

By being in a relationship with him, they're concerned about his ability to influence her in regards to quarian society.

So they surely will not approve, as a race, even if a few choice members like Shala'Raan and Haan'Gerrel might approve of such a relationship.

I don't really think they'd care.  Quarians have enough concern about overpopulation that they wouldn't really care whether Tali can have kids with Shepard or not,

Hmm, not sure I was going for that. More like that them just disapproving that she has a relationship with a human to begin with.

and it isn't like Tali has some sort of royal bloodline that they're concerned about sustaining.

True, although she is an admiral's daughter.

Besides, interspecies relationships seem like something that aliens have accepted long ago, especially with the Asari around.

Good point. But if you listen to some of the Quarians on her loyalty mission, they seem to think less of Shepard for being human.

WELL ****. Discussion about self pleasure isn't something people enjoy reading about. Goddamn. You guys didn't even have a discussion for four minutes from the last picture I posted.
We didn't have a discussion because the discussion was killed when you posted those pictures. It's difficult to hold a conversation with someone shouting in your face.

I thought that our discussion was incredibly mature. We were discussing a natural part of the human mentality and in a very thoughtful way I think. No one was yelling "OMG! I LIKE P33PEEES!" We had found a topic and were playing it out.

Trust me, we can only talk about this stuff for so long. Conversations like that wind down after a while. Just let  them run their course and give this poor person before you the honor of having his voice heard. [/quote]

I don't care how mature you all were speaking. You're feeding a damned troll for one. It is lightyears off topic.  There are people who read this thread that don't post who don't want to read pages and pages about masturbation.

By the way, that was the whole point of the photodump.

Actually, this is a very good point. Prazza was pretty hostile to Shepard for being with Cerberus, for example. Could make for some interesting drama in ME3...

Can we at least agree to disagree? We aren't geth, so we'll never reach a consensus, and even they were having some trouble at it.

I think the resolution to this is pretty simple. We both agree - Pauravi and I - that sex is often an important part of a relationship. But, a relationship can exist without sex without it being just friends. An easy example would be couples abstaining from sex before marriage. If Pauravi can't understand that well...his loss.

Sure I can understand that, but even those couples often do lots of things besides sex.

Also, there is little reason for Tali and Shep to abstrain, frankly.  Yes it carries some risk, but their first contact will always be risky no matter how long they wait.  Either they can have physical contact or they can never have physical contact.  It is clear that Tali wants it and Shepard wants it, and if it is going to happen it may as well be then.

Anyway, I understand now that you were talking about the people in the thread rather than the romances themselves.  That's fine.  I personally don't have a problem with it; people like sex, and even if they talk about it a lot, it doesn't mean that it is the only thing they're concerned with.  I agree with you, it would be a shame if people ignored Tali's personality and only cared about getting to the sex scene, but I don't think that's what is going on.

We were also discussing some of the reasons why people romance Miranda and Jack, and I can say that in many cases it's not because of their glowing personalities ;)

Well, I had this nice, long response typed out, but then my laptop decided it was time to update without warning me, and I lost all of it, so I'll do the best I can at remembering it (which I know I won't do, but whatevs):

My only point was in attacking those who feel that the physical aspects of a relationship are all that matter. Anything else was inferred and not intended. In fact I'm more inclined to agree with you, Pauravi, than Collider. Sex is an integral part of any romantic relationship. I agree with that completely. But there are people who only care about the sex, and that is what I find base and uncouth.

Let me finish off by quoting Gil Grissom from CSI: "Sex should provide the opportunity for human (well, human-quarian here) connection. Paid sex does the opposite of that; to me sex without love is pointless, it makes you sad." I know it's rather out of context and parts of it don't apply here, but at its heart, the bold, italicized, and underlined part is what I meant with my initial comment. Some people just don't get this, and that is what I was attacking.

Sorry for all the confusion, and sorry to anyone else reading this; I imagine the conversation has shifted drastically away from this in the past twenty or so minutes.

If you went paragon they really respect Shepard and didn't care what affiliation he was... Also They kinda respected him anyways because he was a captain and Tali supported him and he fought the Geth. If you went Paragon they respect him even more renegade youre f*cked. And Tali is Vas Normandy its her home now and is outside the fleet...

Maybe, but I think that the things they say could also be attributed to simply not knowing much about humans.  After all, we have not been on the galactic scene for very long at all, and they also seem perfectly willing to give Shepard his due when he performs.

Quarians spend a lot of time away from other Quarians when they go on their pilgrimage.  Even if they get bad treatment from other people, they also have to rely on the help and friendship of other races when they are away.  I find it hard to believe that a race with a cultural practice that forces them to live among aliens for years, at the onset of maturity, could be a particularly xenophobic people.  Insular, yes, but not xenophobic.  They are different ideas.

Very well. I have presented my case. The topic was not necessarily the best one to take a stand over, but I tried.

One final thought: I used to be one of those people that read this topic without posting, and I would have found your ability to discuss a topic as potentially dangerous as that very cool.

I bow out of the ring good sir.

That's probably true. They seem to have been surprised that Shepard (if he spoke eloquently anyway) could speak so movingly to the admiralty board of another race. I think this is especially true if Shepard uses charm and says that Tali at her core is still a quarian member of the migrant fleet.

You've got a very good point regarding pilgrimages. So, the only obstacle that I could foresee that remains seems to be Shepard's ties to Cerberus.

Yes, the majority of us were posters in the first two Tali Fan threads,
before it became the wretched hive of scum and villainy that it is.

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

I think starting an on-topic group is an awesome idea, with luck both sides (the Tali fans who want to talk to other Tali fans about things that are not always related to Tali, and the Tali fans who want to talk ONLY about Tali) will benefit from your decision to start that group Antilles.

For some reason, I really enjoy the atmoshpere for Samara's recruitment. I don't particular like Samara, but her recruitment mission is the bomb. Plus I get to kill that mercenary chick who kills innocent people. Besides it being, you know, Tali, Tali's missions are especially good for the nostalgia of killing Geth. Fun times. Garrus' missions were okay. The environment/music for Jacob's mission was amazing. Shame his romance isn't very good.

Antilles, I wouldn't describe people willing to expand their horizons and discuss something besides what Big Brother wants us to discuss as a "wretched hive of scum and villainy".

I know this is a Tali thread, and when I find something interesting about Tali that I haven't heard twenty times, I'll talk about it. I'm a Tali fan, that's why I joined this thread. But I am willing  to talk about other things here.
