For a quarian to show her face is an act of very deep intimacy. The reasons are medical, but it would also get a cultural meaning. To a Quarian getting used to the other races would be as for a human trying to get used to walking in a nudist camp. ... when she does begin to get feelings for Shepard, maybe it would be a source of embarassment to have Shepard 'flaunting' his face openly.
This point I don't really agree with.  Frankly, I think Quarians often hate their suits.  Their suits are only there because of the hardship of living on the ship, and they live on a ship because they have no home planet.  Tali is clearly upset by the fact that she can't just take off her helmet and look Shepard in the eye.  While it is true that sharing their faces with someone is an act of intimacy, I don't think it necessarily follows that seeing someone's face is a taboo the way that nudity is.  I think they find it frustrating that they can't do it more openly.
I think that even if they might be frustrated they couldn't help being affected by it too. At least where I live seeing someone nude is less taboo than a minor embarassment. If showing your face becomes a sign of deep intimacy, then it should follow that it's not something you feel at ease with doing to anyone, nor that anyone does to you.

Casual sex would be something unheard of in Quarian society. Sex, or any physical intimacy at all really, even between two Quarians is a result of careful planning. Since Quarians seems as prone to developing romantic feelings as humans, I suppose Quarians would be more prone to platonic romances. Space is limited on the flotilla and it's possible that Quarians are used to retreat to an inner self. A Quarian, even a mature one, might therefore be prone to hide her feelings, rather than act upon them, like Tali does.
... or they could just use those nerve stimulation programs ;)
I don't think sexuality and intimacy is unheard of in Quarian culture, only the physical contact part.  I don't think they have too much reason to hide their feelings, but they do still have to put up with the difficulty of actual physical contact (hence my answer to your previous point, about frustration with their suits).
I think that in society where people live very close to each other, people tend to exchange physical distance with mental barriers. We retreat to the inner self and don't aknowledge everyone around us. I still think that there could be tendency for such cultures to hide their feelings, especially as I assume there would perhaps be very hard for Quarians to find the eclusion to explore new feelings. I can be wrong of course, it's just a theory and need not be true.
I was also wondering if the thight control of births together with other aspects of Quarian society I mused over above would not lead to a sort of society where marriage would be brokered by families rather than individual choices. This could be a possible problem for Tali/Shepard. Shepard is a Hero, but he is also depriving Tali's family and clan of a baby for future genrations.
Typically arranged marriages are for purposes of distributing wealth or resources, not controlling birth rates.
Quarians already share material wealth anyway, and they already have laws about multiple births.  As long as they obey their own laws, there is no need for it.  Tali also doesn't mention anything about brokered weddings, which is something I imagine she would have covered in ME1 when talking about the fleet.
Good point. controlled marriage is, at least in most human cultures, to control wealth. If quarians share property, then the line of reason falls. I agree.

Sorry if you think I'm alienating you all or being rude intentionally.

I really just want this thread to function well for it's purpose. I don't mean to insult you if I do, just there are some readers out there who get peeved off at it. I still get PM's about it from some of them who don't like it.

Sorry again. Though feel free to join the group, I've realized that there are some dedicated posters out there so I shouldn't refer to the thread as scum and villainy just yet.

Look, man.  This thread does not exist to serve your needs specifically, or the needs of any of these people that PM you.  It's here to serve anyone who wants to engage with it, as long as they follow Bioware's rules.  It seems to have evolved quite nicely into a casual and jocular place for people with a similar love for Tali'Zorah to relax.  Is it always on topic?  No.  Is it always tasteful?  No.  But that's okay.  Not everyone is going to enjoy every conversation that happens here, but that's what the scroll wheel is for.

I know it's been beaten to death, but if we kept this thread to a rigid doctrine of "only Tali must be discussed, ever," the thread would just rehash the same thing over and over, because Tali is static, a fictional character whose story has, temporarily, come to an end.  She isn't going to evolve until ME3 (or, hopefully, some juicy DLC) comes out.  The way to grow and sustain a community of Tali fans is not to go back to the same dry well constantly, but to let things evolve.  That is, necessarily, going to involve tangent and off-topic conversations, because there really aren't enough Tali conversations to keep this going all day and night.

This thread should be built on the back of Tali love, sure, but also on the personalities and interests of the people who post in it.  We're not always going to get along or share views, but I, personally, ignore a lot of stuff that irritates me in here to get into the good stuff that I enjoy.  Good stuff and irritating stuff will vary for every person, and that's why it's so important that we just ignore what doesn't click with us individually, because someone else probably likes it.  A lot of the OT conversations start with Tali and branch out, and what's wrong with that?  Some of them don't, but, really, why get upset about it?  Discussions about Clint Eastwood or the Boston Red Sox will inevitably fall by the wayside, because the interest that brings everyone to this thread is Tali, and the thread of conversation always returns to her no matter what frivolous bullsh*t comes up.

I would posit that those tangents and frivolities keep the thread vital and fun, and efforts to stuff it into some predetermined shape suck the vitality out.  It's a looong wait until new Tali content, people.  We need something to keep us interested and engaged.  As far as I'm concerned, we ought not to try and constrain our fellow Tali fans unless they show up spouting bigotry and hate.

Oh man. No. No one takes Jack and Zaeed.

Though I did experience something similar to that with a Hunter.

Why ? I like them both and that's why i take them everywhere (before i recruit Tali)

Flying Colossi? Could prove to be a problem for the Quarian war-effort.
This will need investigation.

As for the Admirals: You're right that the Admirals probably wouldn't care much beyond the politics, except for Shala and Gerrel of course.

I agree about Shala, but I'm not so sure about Gerrel. I got the feeling that Gerrel and Koris both belive that Tali shares her father's feelings towards the Geth and that Gerrel is sympathetic to Tali because he sees her as a potential ally. I am doubtful that Gerrel will let honor win over politics if he believed that Shepard has convinced Tali to be in favor of peace with the Geth. In fact both Gerrel and Koris express sympathy for Tali after the trial, it's just that politics often comes first.

Since the quarians will NOT go to war with the geth, it won't be a problem.

I do come off that way, I'm sorry for that. Though I just feel sometimes people need to see this in order to get back on track (from the quite disturbing conversations I've come into). Though the people that do are ones that have been reading since the beginning. It's not just replies we get, it's views and hit counts that arent displayed. That is what can help make the thread popular and more well known. I just want it to be as good as a place for them as it can be for us, and sometimes people just don't care about that. Because this is a thread everyone should be able to enjoy without having to worry about what's being posted here.

Maybe it's because every time I log on It's something extremely distasteful being posted? Could be just horrible timing on my part. Though I know who posts here regularly (never meant to insult cutthecameras as she posts on-topic quite a bit, so apologies for that as well) and on topic. I just hate that people sometimes derail us for the sake of something they "couldn't help but post."

Like the "knock knock" ****.

I guess we think differently, personally I can think of tons of different things to talk about. Guess it's just a difference of our opinions on that.

This thread should be built on the back of Tali love, sure, but also on the personalities and interests of the people who post in it.  We're not always going to get along or share views, but I, personally, ignore a lot of stuff that irritates me in here to get into the good stuff that I enjoy.

That is a practice which I have not mastered. Though on this topic there is no corpse left to beat. Sometimes it's just damn near impossible to ignore ALL of the demotivators and other crap that gets posted. I believe this is more of a situation of patience, which you obviously have more of.

Discussions about Clint Eastwood or the

Well , maybe it is as Marine states it. I walk in at the worst times. I came on and found innuendo talk about breakfast that had made a Great Wall of China quote wall. I said snip quotes, and Drathan quoted that numerous times with somebody to make a quote wall. I guess I just have the worst experiences? I just hate the numerous amount of distasteful crap that has come out of people lately.

Boston Red Sox

Discussions about the Red Sox are met with death. ONLY CUBS, BEARS , BULLS, AND BLACKHAWKS.

will inevitably fall by the wayside, because the interest that brings everyone to this thread is Tali, and the thread of conversation always returns to her no matter what frivolous bullsh*t comes up.

You bring up a great point here. I'd just prefer it was like that more of the time. With less talks of of all the aforementioned stuff I've posted about.

Maybe the Redemption comic's next issue? That's the only thing I can think of. I've been out of touch with "stores" for awhile, so forgive me. Amused Declaration: I'm using the Extranet.

I put the preorder on my credit card for the whole set of the DC Direct figures, so this one matter I am keenly aware of.

It's crazy o'clock here in lovely New England, so I have to go to bed, and thus can't give your response the parsing it deserves (frankly, I'm amazed I came out with that much text after sitting for a 3 1/2 hour sociology essay exam earlier tonight), but my initial impression is that we have more common ground here than conflict, and that probably extends to the others in this thread that share our (apparently opposing, but maybe not?) views.

Well, except that my sports teams are better than yours.  It's damn hard to beat the Sox/Pats/Celts trifecta.  The Bruins I can take or leave.  I'm sure we'll talk more later.
