Ah come on, the reveal has to be more dramatic than that.  On the homeworld, or a wedding or something.

I'm with you on a less dramatic beginning though.  I would think something like giving a speech to the crew a pretty short time after the ending of ME2.

I rather they open with a bang.
Something like this :

Hold the line!
(Just replace Minbari with Reapers..and you'll get the gist of it)

The level of nerd-bliss/nerd-rage (from people who do or don't agree with what she looks like, respectively) that would be unleashed by such an action would mean that half the Mass Effect players would cease playing the game almost immediately and come on these forums to talk about it.

Given current evidence, it's most logical that such an action would lead to the death of half the Mass Effect playing community, as they would be glued to their computer to defend their side in the impending Talimancer civil war, thus ending the Talimancer threat once and for all and ensuring dominance for the Mirandites and others, and costing Bioware half of their playerbase to download and play DLC, namely Tali-related DLC.

Such an outcome is negative for all sides.

I'm sure Bioware will find a face that's sufficiently alien while still beautiful and shows Tali's cuteness.

I'm not sure I agree.  All polls I see has a large majority wanting to see what her face looks like.  While there is a lot of disagreement in speculation over what she will look like now, I don't see that as being a massive rift if Bioware gives her a face.  It's just a fun thing to discuss in the wait between games.  Most people just want to complete the Tali picture, and aren't overly concerned with the specifics.  Most people won't be mad if she is purple instead of pale or whatever.

The fact is that Bioware can't make everyone happy.  Leaving the mask on, and not showing us what she looks like will create a much more negative reaction the way I see it.  The majority of Talimancers are here because of her personality and the rest of the package.  What her face looks like isn't a major sticking point.

This of couse assumes that she's at least attractive.  If they make her a rachni, then everyone will rage as one on Bioware, not each other.

I'm still thinking those choices will really show in the finale (where branching paths are actually managable).  The main issue with ME2 having branching playthroughs is that they could easily double, triple or quadruple the amount of storyline branching they'd have to do for ME3.

But hey, I'm an optimist.

I think that's a seperate issue than the game changing on past decisions though.  I'm expecting multiple endings based on how you play ME3, but I'm not expecting past decisions to limit the amount of endings you can achieve.  I can't see Bioware doing anything to discourage people who didn't play ME1/2 from buying 3.  And not being able to achieve the best ending because the rachni are dead and you blew up the Cerberus base (when you didn't have control over those decisions) isn't a fun situation.  I definitely expect ME3 decisions to branch, but I also expect to be able to get the super paragon ending even if I was 100% renegade for the first two.

Not having your choices affect the plot is annoying, but having them change characters and dialogue is alright as a consolation.  I see that as the most likely path.

It's a tough path to travel; personally, I've never understood people who play finale of a trilogy BEFORE they've done the first two but there are people like that.

With that in mind, Bioware has really only three paths they can take:
- Allow decisions made in ME1 and ME2 to have massive importance, thereby potentially alienating new players
- Have the major decisions be only partially related to the finale, giving new players some breathing room.
- Like ME2, establish "canon" for new players but let it be significantly less rewarding than it is for those who played the first two (i.e. you can only get the 100% perfect omg yay ending if you play your cards right throughout the entire trilogy).

I'm seriously hoping for either 1 or 3; ignoring the business aspect of it, it makes very little sense to have the finale of a trilogy as a starting point for new players (but hey, I would have said that about ME2 as well).

To clarify, I'm saying that I think your dealings with the heretic geth will have a large impact on the whole of Geth "society". Up until the heretics split the geth had never even experienced a difference in opinion within their ranks, and yes the reapers brainwashed the heretics so to speak, but the geth do not see themselves as individuals. I got the impression while talking to Legion that once reintigrated with the rest of the group, all geth would would have memory of the heretics actions.
Thinking about it again, if there is to be peace between Quarians and Geth it would likely be written into the main story as a major event that your decisions can have a notable effect on, but nothing that would come about directly as a result of your decisions up to this point.

To be honest, I'm pretty clueless on how the geth work as a whole.  The differences between the true geth and the heretics is a pretty big one though.  The true geth haven't left the veil for centuries, while the heretics have been out maruding around the galaxy killing people and doing other stuff.  If that rubs off on the true geth as more than a past memory, it could change things.

I guess it depends on how the true geth view the heretics and their actions.  If they see it as seperate actions taken as a result of the reapers, and they're now in the past, it won't change much.  They'll just accept the heretics back and ignore their past actions since they had no control over them.  If they can somehow confuse their intentions with the heretics, that could be bad.  That seems a little farfetched to me, but you never know.

i agree with all the points mad above me

i am all for bioware to give tail a face i would like to be able to put a face to the woman. I think that if they don't show the face that would be bad for bioware more so than if they did show the face. we dont have to worry about her being ugly bioware would do that (i hope) they will give her a face that matches her personality and looks

As for ME3 i think it should be for the people that have played ME1 and 2 or just 2 they need to make your decisions actually mean something that is what drawed me to ME to begin with. Decisions you make in this game affect the next game and since it is the final in the series then the decisions you make should actually mean something in the final one.

o a couple more things

I think they should make seeing her face an option like if you want to see her face then do a side mission or something. That way people who want to see her face get to see it and for those who dont want to see it get their wish. But when they revile her face it should be romantic and epic at the same time. Like Shepard gives this romantic speech to tali saying that he loves her and stuff and he takes off her mask were she is crying she says i love you too and the kiss that would be great

But if they mess up Tali like not a squad member, not continue as a LI, and not to give her a happy ending with Shep then i would be one of the first to write a very very mean letter to bioware

Also who agrees with me that the ending of ME3 should be like ME2 like if you do everything you prepare then everyone lives and you get the happy ending with your LI but if not then Shep gives his life for the Galaxy?

Situations 1 and 3 don't necessarily seem mutually exclusive.  If you make choices in the first two affect ME3, you have to set up a default, and it won't be the most rewarding, or what's the point.

The other problem with having past choices affect ME3 is that how do you decide which choices are right?  Do you go with all paragon choices being right in the end and screw over any renegades?  You can't really justify having a mixed bag of correct choices, since dialogue options force you to play one or the other if you want good results.  The whole issue of not wanting to alienate players who didn't play the first two comes up again if now you're alienating everyone who played as renegade in the first or paragon in the second.

There isn't much difference between not being able to save the world because you didn't play the first, and not being able to save it because 3 years ago when you played ME1 you made the wrong choice.  I don't find either situation too desirable.

Because of that they kind of have to walk the tightrope again.  Make us feel like our decisions matter, while having ways to correct anything we may have messed up before.  I'd be fine with importing an ME2 where you brainwashed the heretics leads to having to fight an extra enemy, but doesn't change the ending.  That way you feel like you messed up by not destroying them altogether, but can still save the galaxy.

Not revealing Tali's face before ME3 completes will bring far worse consequences given the litmus tests of many posters on BioWare's forum. While it's not a scientific survey there are nonetheless indicators that a strong majority favours a Tali face reveal. I'm one of them. Regardless of whether I will fully agree with BioWare's vision of Tali's visage at least I will have found closue regarding that topic which no one else but BioWare is able to provide. Besides, all this talk of "Oh but BioWare can never make a face everyone will like!", while statistically plausible doesn't automatically equate with the possibility of BioWare not being able to produce a face reveal of Tali that will be satisfactory on some level for a vast majority of ME players. There are fairly well established and somewhat wide parameters for what is readily understood to be "attractive" in many societies today regarding physical looks. Point in case: I may not generally be turned on by some super models yet I am quite capable of registering that they are considered phyiscally attractive by contemporary Western standards (and there are other super models I could oogle all day given the chance). I say "for shame!" to those who doubt BioWare will be able to pull off a Tali face that is appealing to far more people than it may be displeasing to others.

Keelah Se'lai all!

It's ironic. I am really into giving Shepard a mask to give him equal grounds to Tali.

As for decisions we hark back to the days of Planescape: Torment with the whole Ravel Puzzlewell storyline which really showed how early decisions can affect you later. Or in the Baldur's Gate series with Sarevok and his deeply evolved characterization with the protagonist. I think Tali shows a lot of similarities to the depth of these characters because you expect Ravel to be a monster and you're shocked what she really is and Sarevok too is someone who belongs to a species which he feels compelled to format his life around but realizes there is more to it. Isn't this how Tali's face, and stance on Quarians, has become?

ME3 should be the closing of not just Shepard's story but Tali's story too. For good or bad it has to end one way or another. How the player decides to affect the Mass Effect Galaxy should pave the groundwork for the series beyond these characters because a lot of time and interest is invested beyond ME2 already so it's likely by the time ME3 is out they'll be plenty to go by afterwards.

You make a good point; it would be a shame if a seemingly minor decision I made way back in ME1 destroyed any chance I have at the "happy ending."

Oh well, at this point all we can do is speculate and wish that 2012 would get here sooner.

I fail to see how Tali's helmet - despite having influenced her as an individual in an environmental sense - bears direct relevance to Ravel and  Sarevok. They are different characters in different settings dealing with very different issues. Learning to be more conscientious of others due to living in close quarters with a weakened-but-boostable immune system is not the same as dealing with the fact that your soul is a shard of a dead god of murder, IMO.

The problem with making it optional is that it's pretty hard to avoid.  Anyone who cares enough about Tali (and in conjunction, cares enough to hang out on threads like these,) would eventually see it just from people posting it like other stuff gets posted around here.

I agree that it's all moot if Bioware wrecks Tali, but I'm optimistic on that front.

As far as ME3's ending, I definitely see multiple endings like that.  Can't really see the one static ending alternative at all actually.
