Himmelstor, what do you mean by "advertisments" in my fanfic?

Several words in your fanfic link to M&Ms website.
Am confused.

Yea I don't understand that either. Does adverstising in a fanfic pay well?

Problems like that are easily avoided but really really hard to fix. I always recommend total system wipe and use a secure browser next time >:P

Also, Norton sucks, use Avast or Antivir

Riiiigggghhhhtttt....

In light of this recent evidence: Norton sucks, get something like Avast. <_<

Could be lack up updates or subscription ran out. Many factors to why any Antivirus will fail. Also read this: http://arstechnica.c...val-winners.ars

Imma go w/ TIM on this one.... (wait what? did i just say that? sudden urge to slap ones self!)

Norton blows. possibly the worst AV out there. Avast is the way to go if you wan't any sort of decent protection.

Wasn't saying that Norton is the best (its ONE of the best Paid AntiVir) and in my personal experence (two years as a bench tech and one year as a computer contractor) Norton does a fantasic job. MSE does an amazing job as a watchdog antivir. 80 megs background running? 1% more CPU usage? Not had anything get through since I got it? Sold!

Punishment would be severe!

None but if I did I would give them a TRS-80.

Of course I end up cleaning everyone else's computers (gratis) because they cannot control the OK button. Of course I cannot help being a geek and rising to a challenge.

Well all i gotta say is I got a virus once. My paid for (and updated) Norton couldn't detect it. Avast Freeware did. Game Set Match for me.

My computer is about to dieImage IPB

Oh well you'll just get another one than we will see you then. No big deal.. you will need to put that computer down though...so sad

Rubbish. It can likely be fixed. In the worst case scenario a complete reformat of the hard drive should eradicate any and all viruses/worms/trojans. That is a last resort however since it involves quite a bit of time and effort restoring everything, and that's presuming all files of interest have already been backed up and aren't infected.

FSD, update your anti-virus program(s). Both Microsoft's and Norton's. Once that is done scan your entire hard drive (it may take awhile). Also consider that you may want to have a firewall and anti-virus software that covers both programs, e-mails and online websites. There are some free versions online that do a fine job. Try to avoid running too many security programs at once though (ex. more than one firewall) since they can sometimes end up negating each other's effectiveness.

Neither norton nor MSE do very well when one enters into "illicit" affairs... Avast has been the best for me, but use w/e works for you I guess...

Agreed. I like Avast. Norton was once quite nice but I haven't used it since 2006 after a paid for version had a critical error with a genuine Microsoft update and would no longer work. Avast is also free which is nice.

IF you choose no to format your system drive, you might want to check out this forum

http://forums.maddok...addoktor2.com   (HijackThis Logs and Assistance subforum, just follow the rules there)

There are some savvy people over there that might be able to help you.
True, they'll have you jumping trough hoops, but rarely is something that's worth doing simple ;)

I'm using NOD32 4 myself

Well for "illicit" i "would" use my virtual machine. Easy to clean that.

But to put a cap on the whole AntiVirus programs and what not: Everyone tends to use what they like and only change when their computer craps out over not being protected. To each their own. I just know what I reccomend to my customers when they ask.

Thanks I originally had a transposition in her last name which was a cardinal sin (committed at about 2 am while waiting for a DB migration to finish) but after a few friendly people with torches and pitchforks showed up at my door informing me of the issue I fixed it.

POP UP ARE EVERYWHERE!

Calm down FSD. I understand your frustration and fear. Ok. Take a deep breath, calm yourself and we will proceed to get your PC back under your control. :)

1) Go download the free basic edition of Avast anti-virus software Here

2) Go download the free version of Comodo's firewall software Here

3) Install both programs. Activate Comodo's firewall to help protect your PC from new incoming online threats and then activate Avast's anti-virus program and let it run a complete scan of your hard drive.

We'll take it from there once further results are in, ok? It'll be okay. Your computer is not doomed. :)
