So enemies don't build bases in Geth territory?Image IPB

Legion tells Tali  (if you take him to recruit her) that they currently are in no conflicts with the Quarians. Not that the team was even building a base as they were just gathering information. Not to mention the star is dying, the Geth should know, and thus realize the planet itself is degrading in it's value.

not even information on the geth or that could be used against them... just studying an unexplained phenomenon.

There's no current conflicts with the quarians, but that doesn't mean that you must allow them to gather intel about you to potentially use in a future attack. It's just like spies in real-life. They're taken out, even when there's no war.

well legion didnt have problems with blowing them all away, i think they're probably heretics.

True-che, sir.

I think what we've run into here is the idea of  "It'd be boring if you walked in and didn't shoot anyone and just picked up Tali."

Mainly because it makes no sense why the heretic Geth would be going to destroy a band of quarians who are clearly not there for rebuilding.

Geth are awesome, but they can't read mindsImage IPB
How were they supposed to know it had little to do with them?

However: The geth clearly did not inhabit Haestrom. There would be no Geth evidence to discover there.

Not saying they should've attacked. Though their primary programming was to be cheap labor. Is it possible that mode of programming is still running in them?

And if that were the case. Couldn't the Quarians just ...you know... ask to come back?

I imagine they could, I think most of us are hoping that there'll be a similar peaceful resolution in ME3..

It's also likely that some older geth processes are still running, but I think it's more likely that they simply do not blame the creators, and may even miss them. We know Geth are not completely cold and logical(Look at heretics building Shrines and Legion's N7 armor)

They could have set up a listening post in geth territory.

From the geth's point of view it made sense to attack. The quarians could have done all kinds of crap on that planet. And it's not like they asked if they could study a phenomenon in geth territory, they just.....invaded.

As Tali said the Geth do blur the lines of synthetic and organic. That's why I wish you could ask Legion soooo much more. I'd love to see Tali speaking to Legion about the entire process.

Possibility but what use would a listening post be if the Star is close to dying?

Even if old Geth processes are still running, the Geth as a whole are more than intelligent enough to override their old commands if they wished.  As Legion says when you ask him why they're cleaning up the Quarian world, "The Creators died... perhaps we do it for them".

yeah, they couldn't even get off planet communications due to the solar radiation. a listening post there would be idiotic.

When you talk about a star being "close" to dying, it might well mean that it will live for another 1,000,000 years or so.

my theory of Haestrom is that the synthetics there were Heretics. I even speculate that they were testing a reaper-made weapon on the star. By forcing the star into singularity, a field-type black hole would be created with a large (greater than 2 meters) Schwarzchild radius. In the game universe, this would lead to the creation of a large amount of element zero and thus allow the creation of a new mass relay with which the reapers could return... that's my theory... Good thing Tali was there. It might actually turn out to be worth all the death...

And do you think the quarians would just ignore it if a geth ship suddenly appeared in the flotilla to do some studying?

Well they must have been Heretics considering you can take Legion on the mission If I am not mistaken.

Why do I have a bad feling you're gonna have to prevent a war by persuading some Quarians (whether with words or otherwise...sigh).

Think the Quarian and the Geth could both exist on their Homeworld (Whether it's Rannoch or whichever planet that might be)?

hm..basically: are the Geth and the Quarians capable of coexisting?

Short term: Yes, probably. However this is only possible if they manage to overcome old hatreds and prejudice (mostly the Quarians mind) and as it looks right now this is very doubtful.
Paragon shepard would likely be able to use his charm to make it work, no problem.B)

Long term: Hard to say. I'd say It's doubtful, and if it's at all possible then it would take many many years of diplomacy I think.

yeah, because that's the same thing as a science team on some backwater planet studying a dying star.

Too bad Quarians don't have hair, would really interesting to see Tali's hairstyle. Wait....who know, perhaps they evolved to the point where they are now growing hair??
